Well spoilers, but Luke grows from there and becomes a true legend.
Both would be feasible if the Clone Wars were being conducted by public figures other than Yoda who hops around planets directing battles personally from a gunship, which is becoming dumber the more I type this… but different characters know about the mysterious religion in SW to some degree.
I think the Sith should be in hiding after their prior defeat, but the Jedi should be guardians of the Old Republic like knights, samurai or whatever medieval analogue works best. A religious order but not a governing body of any kind, servants and not military leaders. That way the lords/kings/caesars can filter into an appropriate rise of an Empire plot structure, and any slavery or gladiator parallels would actually be appropriate.
He made it personal by declaring himself a genius (when it was in fact a clear collaborative effort) and saying the films he changed were the only version (when the cultural impact, the awards, the rest of it were not those versions). People act like that because it’s only natural.
Yeah sorry I got carried away.
As for the movie, I’d say it needs at least 300mil more for anyone at LFL to be able to relax.
Gareth Edwards makes gorgeous compositions and understands the importance of worldbuilding, but can’t seem to make an interesting character to save his life.
Agree. They need his style but a script that actually works and has heart. Then they just need someone to edit the damn thing properly, without feeling like huge chunks where lost at the last minute. That’s the problem with most of the new movies, nobody seems to have a proper idea of what works and what needs to be left out. They all feel like a reshuffle of the parts is needed, some more than others.
I agree. The structure and tone are very particular, plus it’s got the special 70s vibe.
If the opening weekend is anything to go with so far I think they’re in trouble.
All the “general” threads are in the EU section, took me ages to figure it out. No worries, I’ll get there eventually.
This is really confusing.
“Own the originals last time” was 1995. The prequels wouldn’t come out for another 4 years.
He went back on that anyway 10 years later.
The 2006 disc release was bonus material and hardly an acceptable way in which to view the unaltered versions.
Sadly some people actually believe that’s the only way to see them.
Anyone else get some serious Star Trek TOS vibes with Rey and the serpent? We’re stuck in a cave and we gotta heal the misunderstood monster!
I thought of this exact thing! ALOL
This sort of thing?
To be fair isn’t the same as the “fake hand held” style. Not entirely anyway.
Those are just waiting for James Cameron to approve the new remasters.
The OOT is waiting for… a miracle at this point.
This movie was hilariously dumb. A huge rickety mess that I laughed out loud during. I kinda liked it. But it’s not good.
I don’t trust him. But I’ll let you know sometime Saturday. Until then, adiós.
Oof that 1997 X-wing vs TIE movement though…
But as others have mentioned the Disney stance on revisionism is very clear. George’s version of the story is like Walt’s version of the story now. Imagine in a few years if they wanted to make Saving Mr Banks but it’s about making Star Wars. Can’t have any pesky originals hanging about.
The words “not necessarily” carry a lot of weight, as does his “reasons I don’t quite understand.” It says he’s at a remove, and he’s not clear on what it is that’s actually happening with it, and more importantly, that he never really followed up.
No those words are of course dodging real answers to avoid giving away his stance. He’d love to see the OOT (because saying otherwise would annoy fans) but can’t say any more (to avoid annoying his current employer). It’s pro Q&A stuff.
Early April/Late March would be the same as the last two.

Are we a dying breed? Will this all be lost like tears in rain?
Yes.
Yeah but after the “I left a script under my bed” story how is this really news and not TROS hype clickbait. Guys it’s okay we’re back as a trio it’s gonna be great!
I watched Return Of The Jedi last night and caught something that I never gave much thought …when the Emperor tells Vader to go to the sanctuary moon and wait for Skywalker , he does not arrive on the moon until after nightfall .In the scene right after Vader has his talk with Palps ,the rebels land on Endor and a full day passes into night before Luke goes off to meet Vader . Was there that much travel time between Death Star 2 and Endor via shuttle ? Or did Vader go off and meditate for a while before departing ? I guess this could be open to a lot of speculation .
Also Luke says to Leia “Vader’s here - on this moon…” when Vader hasn’t landed yet.
Oh god.
