Small details that took you <em><strong>FOREVER</strong></em> to notice in the <em>Star Wars</em> films

I watched Return Of The Jedi last night and caught something that I never gave much thought …when the Emperor tells Vader to go to the sanctuary moon and wait for Skywalker , he does not arrive on the moon until after nightfall .In the scene right after Vader has his talk with Palps ,the rebels land on Endor and a full day passes into night before Luke goes off to meet Vader . Was there that much travel time between Death Star 2 and Endor via shuttle ? Or did Vader go off and meditate for a while before departing ? I guess this could be open to a lot of speculation .

Also Luke says to Leia “Vader’s here - on this moon…” when Vader hasn’t landed yet.

Oh god.

‘The Rise of Skywalker screened early for dying Star Wars fan’:-

^ fair play to Lucasfilm / Disney for doing that.

Fair play. But they could have kept it behind closed doors instead of making it more PR.

Worst Ideas in Star Wars/Good Ideas that went Horribly Wrong
Time

Anakin already murdered a whole village out of “anger” in AOTC. So killing one extra guy is nothing. It’s not a turning point or a good example of characterisation. Is Dooku more human than the sand people and therefore a darker step along the path? Does Anakin even learn anything new about himself or the dark side? We may never know. There’s no apparent easier path, or any obvious seductive power.

Luke at least used dark powers to allow his easy access to Jabba’s palace, and fell afoul of his abuse of the Jedi mind trick. When he lashes out at Palpatine it’s the same, his temper does more harm than good. Then at the end with Vader it’s clear the strength he gains allows him to win the fight. But instead of seeing this as a great advantage he’s the better man and corrects these mistakes. If he was weaker he might have let the victory influence him in a different way, that’s why these moments in ROTJ work.

Vader’s redemption is certainly iffy, but in the context of acting selflessly instead of selfishly it’s enough. As long as you ignore his supposed child murdering days. In a broader sense he’s finally giving up all that power to remember his humanity. It’s less about killing one last bad guy and more about the sacrifice.

Wars, organizations, relationships, and galactic history before the Prequels
Time

A lot of this stuff was off-limits to the EU writers as far as I recall. There were brief mentions of Uncle Owen and Old Ben as you say, but I don’t remember much else. There’s a brief description of how the Old Republic fell in one of the old Technical Journals, but it basically said it was too big and too corrupt and eventually crumbled from within.

Also this kinda thing

George Lucas: Star Wars Creator, Unreliable Narrator &amp; Time Travelling Revisionist...
Time

So I randomly thought about this interview between George and Leonard Maltin. It was on the last VHS release of the OOT (I always fast forwarded it as a kid). Interestingly George seems kinda relaxed here, and not awkward and bitter. Maybe because this is before hate towards him because of the Special Editions and the prequels. The flannel shirts are also absent…

It’s pretty brief and was originally split over 3 tapes. However some tid-bits for this thread:
He says he first wrote his own space opera, inspired by Flash Gordon. Did he ever write his own version though?
Still claims SW is the “first act” of a much larger script. Also mentions the alleged “back story” about Anakin’s wife.
Says he’s writing all 3 prequels at once, but then during pre-production of one of them (maybe EpII?) he sees all the designers at work and says something like “I better start on this script”…
Claims the twins reveal and the redemption of Vader was always part of the back-story.
