I just came across the Pentex and Patterson edit of this show which changes it into 2 movies (one flashbacks and one present) has anyone seen this? Will report back later.
Also, The Last Command I thought they kind of dropped the ball with the story. The whole Luke having an evil clone plot point (and that they got the DNA from his severed hand) I thought was pretty stupid. Especially the fact they named him Luuke. That was dumb.

Unless they are dumb they have to (a) make it 10x lower price and (b) actually make it look like a SW location…

Mark Hamill and Hayden Christensen will return as Luke and Anakin in the upcoming new Star Wars movie.
I think it goes back to the real problem that the 90s CGI effects weren’t there to improve things. Old elements that could have been improved or cleaned up were left because they didn’t intend to. It was just a way to do some proof of concept ideas (and money raising) for The Phantom Menace. Plus the marketing angle of course after the brand had become more associated with games and novels. 25 years of this crap just for a better box office in 1999.
I never understood all the praise Arrival got.
His style was a perfect fit for Blade Runner 2049, though.

You’re thinking about it harder than they did. The TFA voice over Easter Egg and that whole vision scene had no purpose so it’s kind of irrelevant.
It was more interesting to consider that Anakin and Luke were both faced with life on the boring dirt farm, but took different paths. Or that Uncle Owen’s poor fortunes were a result of the war. Or something interesting that isn’t The Phantom Menace.

Unless there’s a game or an animated series the whole High Republic thing is a non-starter for me. I guess there’s something coming down the line but it should have been first before books and comics… not 3 years later.
Has it ever been explained why they don’t need droid control ships any more? In the old EU this was the whole reason nobody used droid armies - they relied on transmissions from a control point that could be easily jammed. But now in the other prequels and all the media that followed it’s never mentioned.

In Disney ad-speak it probably translates to a big cross-over story, with characters like Ezra and Asokha from across different shows joining up.
Luke would probably never have thought about leaving if a single port was so busy. There’s probably a thriving metropolis nearby if all that traffic came and went. Even the little CGI creatures ruin the idea that it’s a barren wasteland.
Have you ever seen Election and Election 2? Johnnie To not Reese Witherspoon that is. It has a very nuance power struggle with characters that are neither good nor evil, but are pushed towards power by personal circumstances and often just bad luck. Even if they don’t want it, each decision has a repercussion. Now that’s how you do a modern take on The Godfather arc. But since Anakin is barely a character in The Phantom Menace you’ve lost so much time. Really that plot could have been part of the AOTC crawl, then there should have been a movie before TROS like the Clone Wars show era. Ah well.
Since they decided she is ‘all the Jedi’ then logically she needs to become one with the Force or something.
I agree that the original version feels like a western setting. In fact the different area of Tatooine in the movie feel like a real place with not much of a spectacle, it’s my fave location. When you see the town after Luke sells the speeder it feels like there’s a maze of eerie streets and alleys just out of view, not a bunch of flashy big buildings. The new one is like generic sci-fi stuff with extra towers and domes everywhere. Like any boring city they visit in the animated shows, they usually look like that. Plus the 90s CGI textures look like crap. Like something out of any generic blockbuster of that time.
