That's not what people said. But he has told a bald-faced lie and continues to mistreat his fans. This is just proof that what they have been advertising is a lie. No one said anything else. This release will not be anamorphic. Fact. It will be made from 15 year old masters, whcih LFL admits are of poor quality. Fact. People who saw the ComiCon presentation said that it looked bad. Fact. Lucasfilm has the ability to release a proper version. Fact. They have not. Fact. Therefore, criticism.

Its not your movie, never was, never will be.

I never said that it was, but thanks for reminding me for the 65th time.

After all, it's interesting to see the immensely-intellectual depths his viewpoint brings to all of this.

I assume that you are kidding?

Oh well.

No, a.k.a., there's nothing I can do.

I never said it was. Thanks for reminding me for the 63rd time though.

I really didn't mean to depress you in what I said on the other thread.

I'm an optimist who sees pie in the sky. You just told the truth, and it was hard to hear. It's not your fault. But the battle is not over yet.

Lucas is stubborn, inconsistent, and frustrating. But he's not stupid.

Like I mentioned before, I think the press is going to do a lot of our work for us and give us a head start, because any magazine reviewer or movie reviewer worth his/her salt is going to lambaste Lucasfilm for releasing these classic films in such an outdated fashion.

True, but they probably won't care, as they don't seem to care about anything else.

You yourself said that people just don't care and that we are a minority. Remember, in you depressingly honest "dead horse" post in the "first viewing of the OOT DVDs"

I think that if he were to gather up some help from other critics and Hollywoodites then he could have some clout, but what do I know?

SUPERMAN RETURNS REVIEW

If the movie hadn't sucked, I think we might have forgiven the rubber nipples eventually.

According to most of the people I know, the rubber nipples are the reason that the movie sucked.

SR is currently up to $178 million dollars.

From IMDB 7/26/2006 -

Director Bryan Singer has acknowledged that the less-than-stellar performance of Superman Returns has made prospects for another Man of Steel sequel a bit "iffy." The Associated Press quotes him as saying, "We haven't concluded a deal," but if a sequel gets a green light from Warner Bros, "the intention is to do it for [release in] 2009." Separately, Singer told Britain's Empire magazine, "Now that the character is established, I'd like to take the opportunity to bring in a more threatening element, a more terrible, foreboding element." Superman Returns, starring Kevin Spacey, Brandon Routh, and Kate Bosworth, has taken in $178 million at the domestic box office, below such other summer hits as The Da Vinci Code, X-Men: The Last Stand, Cars, and Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man's Chest.

Domestically or worldwide? What about merchandising? It'd be a shame if Singer's Superman isn't given a chance to grow. As he proved with X2, when he's given something to build upon Singer can really run with it. Ah well. Such is life, I suppose.

Yes, but at this point, what can we do? I'll keep fighting on principle, of course, but at the moment, it seems that we have lost the battle. Let's hope we can win the war. I just don't have an inspirational speech ready. Its thousand to one odds.

WE can't do anything more right now. However, I'm confident that there WILL be a significant backlash in the entertainment press about these non-anamorphic DVDs. As a result, GL will have to address the issue at some point in the future. I think he's underestimating the negative response that these DVDs will get.

It will be very interesting to watch all of this unfold. 48 days to go.

That long, huh. I just keep worring that the backlash will have the adverse effect of ticking off Lucas and making the situation even worse. I just hope that the light at the end of the tunnel is not the train. I guess that I should be patient and remember that good things come to those who wait. Who knows. Maybe some good will come of this. I certainly hope so. I should cheer up. Maybe, just maybe, all of this will turn out for the best. Thanks Mielr. Its good that have you on this board. I like you very much. Its great to have been welcomed by you. Maybe I should go watch The Shawshank Redemption.

How much of a grassroots movement from the fanbase would it take to generate money through donations and such in order to have a good print restored and trasnferred to dvd, and distributed not for profit? Pie in the sky...I know. But seriously, put a dollar amount on it. Could we (the fans) generate it?

Well, I seem to remember that Robert A. Harris (who very much wants to do the restoration and could be easily contacted as he often posts over at HTF) asked for something like $50,000 per film or somesuch. I really think that the fans could do it. But Lucas doesn't want these version restored, and would probably not let it happen.

I didn't like how, as the Next Generation films went along, Picard seemed to morph into Kirk. I like Kirk, in fact I prefer Kirk Trek over TNG Trek, but if I'm going to sit down and watch a Picard Trek, I expect Picard to act like Picard and not like Kirk.

Oh boy; Trek talk! This should be interesting. Geek time! Just kidding. Hasn't Jeffery Hunter passed away?

Rick Berman should be jailed for cruelty to animals. Specifically: Beating a dead horse.

I take it you don't care much for post-Kirk Trek?

That wasn't a flame thrown your way Mike just so there is no misunderstandings between us.

I meant no offense either. It's quite all right my Canadian friend (You know, near Detroit, you are to the south. Odd bit of triva) ! I was just saying that this release was either a really good sign or a really, really bad one. I guess we'll just have to wait. I hope that you're right about a good release coming out, and hopefully soon. Do you think that there's a chance of seeing it in the 30th boxed set, or no? just curious. Now if you'll exuse me, I'm going to go lift my spirits by watching The Shawshank Redemption.

If George did release a high quality OOT DVD, what is the worst that would happen?
Time
If it included a remastered OOT, I'd probably buy it, that's the sad part. I was hoping that that would happen with the 30th anniversary boxed set next year, but now I really doubt it. Besides, if it did come out in a boxed set, it would eventually come out by itself in a few years.

Altar to Baal (The Artist formerly known as George Lucas) Special Collectors Edition
The Definitive Baal Autobiography “How Art should be modified to suit the tastes of changing viewers” or “Nothing is timeless” by Baal (The Artist formerly known as George Lucas)

They just want another excuse to sell you the SE. But people won't buy it without a very good reason to (as evidenced by the failure of the 2005 release) so they are slapping on a laserdisk transfer and marketing that. Sansweet himself admitted the initial purpose was to re-sell the SE films individually. That is why the OOT is bonus material--its the bonus on the SE films to get you to buy it. The marketing focusing ONLY on the OOT release is obviously because that is the sets selling point. A proper release of the OOT will come out eventually but if they say this is the last time it will be available then we buy it now instead of waiting.

I really think that we know much more about this than Sansweet does. He's proably just parroting what the higher-ups at LFL told him to. If there will be a quality release, then when? There is something more than meats the eye going on here. This just doesn't add up. What 2005 release? Why did it fail?
