Update: Blade Runner Dvd
Time
As the transfer is anamorphic and looks very good to me, I don't take an issue with it. Once, I would hear the director/producer/writer's intentions and ask no more questions. However, in light of things like the SEs and the music replacement issue on the Quantum Leap and Northern Exposure DVDs which are there because the creators of the show did not want to pay for the rights to the music, I've come to feel that their word shouldn't deprive me of my preferred viewing experience. I agree, in the case of Aliens, because despite the high-tech storyline, there was an obviously guerilla quality to it (a strange phase in Cameron's career between the offbeat and indie-esque The Terminator and the slick glossy spectalcles like Terminator 2: Judgment Day, True Lies, and especially Titanic, all of which drip Hollywood style from every pore) and grain enhaces that (can anyone say Zulu?). I wish he's supervise an an anamorphic version of The Abyss, though. Ah, well. I'm sure we'll see one someday.

There are many cruel jokes which I have too much heart to type here. But maybe if Wicket was in charge at LFL, we could get a decent OOT DVD release.

Dont be dissin the Wick man, Aight! I'll seriously pop a cap in yo ass!

Don't...ever...say....that...again.

I got a response from Leonard Maltin.....

Robert A. Harris wants to do this very much, so if anyone is a member of the Home Theater Forum and knows how to contact him, then by all means do, and post it in the "contacts" thread. The more people that we can have leaning on Lucas, the better. Ideally, Criterion would do a breathtaking restoration full of awesome extras, LFL would get the money, and everyone would be happy. While I'm at it, I wish for a new car, a million dollars, a home theater system, and world peace.

Someday it's gonna come back and bite him on the ass.

It already seems to be starting too. Leonard Maltin is all very well, but we really need to do several things. One, we need some clout, some famous people. Other billionares who also feel the same, like Gary Kurtz. Or we need to apply tons of pressure from tons of different people. I just wish either option could make a difference. But who knows? Maybe we can.

It's nice to see someone with an open mind. If Lucas thought more like you, this website would not exist. Whiner, why are you attacing people? No one insulted you. People on this website just want to be able to watch the original versions in high quality. That is all.

There's still good in him (Lucas), the money hasn't driven it from him fully. We can turn him back....to the good side

I hope so. And thanks.

The genius known as "Whiners" attempted to change the e-mail address he has on file with us to an invalid address so that he could continue to post without us contacting him regarding his trollish behavior. What he probably didn't know is that when you change your e-mail address, a new random password is automatically generated and sent to that address to prevent specifically this type of thing from happening. So "Whiners" can't login now.

Mr. Sylvester. I've hardly seen you lately.

Before the big Star Wars box. Hmm. Is anyone in Lucasfilm's marketing department taking notes? I've only seen the DC of BR (a masterpiece, in my opinion), so I'll definitely get this.

You're right; of course plenty of people think it is actually a word after Fox marketing department made it up.

Why didn't they just call it the Alien boxed set? Ah, well. It doesn't really matter. It's a kick-ass set that presents both versions of all four movie in crisp anamorphic widescreen (athough I wish Cameron had supervised a new transfer of Aliens, and The Abyss while he's at it) and booming 5.1 surround sound interpolated from the original six-track with a fantastic plethora of extras for a reasonable price. I suppose complaining about a made up word is nitpicking.

You will have the buy them in the biggest, shit-laden box-set the world has ever seen, all loaded into lifesize model of Darth's helmet. New versions plus old of each of the 6 films. They will be packaged with everything you never wanted to see or wondered about the SW films, and lacking most of what you did want to see. The price will make us weep openly, and we will get about 12 to 15 extra shiny disks of crap to go with the 3 OOT disks. At todays prices, I guess $350 US minimum. Ohh, and they would be rushed too, so they would be loaded with goofups, poorly mixed sound, you know..all that usual crap some of us have come to expect. I can't see anything to make me think if he does release them, that he wouldn't go for a huge wallet hit first time.

I'd imagine he would have some more time here in Oz before he recuts the first three with added scenes, or maybe they will just all be done on computer. I'm not sure they would have it ready for the 30th aniversary.I think they will sell enough product for the 30th aniversary anyway, without having to make a super boxset, and could release that at anytime when it's done.

I could be a pessimist though. I'm pretty sure I am.

If there is a remastered OOT on the boxed set with anamorphic widescreen and mono.2.0/5.1-from-six-track-sound, then I will pay pretty much any price. If it has the "From Star Wars to Jedi" and other older documentaries as well, I would proably sell my soul for it. I am hoping that Lucas, shrewd businessman that he is, is thinking along those same lines. But who knows? His mind works in very, very strange ways. He seems to have multiple personalities or something.
