I also like the goth bands Lacrimosa and Illuminate (both are German)

I have a friend who into black metal and death metal (i.e., he thinks that Metallica are pretty soft [and in many ways they are; Zeppelin can be heavier]), so Rhapsody rings a sort of bell. Cristopher Lee, huh? No kidding.

Me? Pink Floyd, Led Zeppelin, Bob Dylan, Neil Young, Johnny Cash, The Rolling Stones, the Beatles, Lynyrd Skynyrd, The Allman Brothers Band (saw them in concery last, and even though Warren Haynes couldn't make it, Derek Trucks is the best guitarist they've had in a decade or two, although I miss Betts), Miles Davis, Creedence Clearwater Revival, the list goes on and on. I'm sucker for rootsy stuff.

The Seatbelts? Very diverse styles, they have.

I haven't heart much from them beyond their work on Cowboy Bebop. Eclectic, are they?

Turnabout is fair play, I say. The guy owes his career and fortune to Star Wars, which, let's be honest here - is only profitable because of a fanbase like us.

To insult said fanbase is calous, ignorant, and indicative of one thing - McCallum doesn't care about us, or Star Wars, just making money off of it.

We always knew that.

I wonder what McCalum will do when Lucas dies. Does he have a will of his own? Or will he just star blankly into space? Just kidding, just kidding.

Let's get started with the email-writing campaign right now.

Physical letters are important too.

Look at what he has to gain if this release doesn't sell: he can wash his hands of the OOT for good; he'll just point to this release as proof that no one wants it, and he'll be able to curl up nice and cozy with his precious SEs at night.

It is starting to look like, even if this release does not start flying off of the shelves, it will still sell reasonably well.

Let's make a point of that with factual evidence when we write.

The Digital Bits has an excellent article in which they refute everyone of LFL's points one by one and prove that restoration is physically possible.

We need Jay and the petitioners and forumites, however. We need to make a lot of noise.

What the hell would he care, anyway? No one had ever even heard of that pompous ass before the SE's in 1997.

Have you ever heard of someone so arrogant as to think they are above criticism? The SE's and Prequels are done - why does this mouthbreather still have a job at LFL?

McCallum is in his fifties, is he not? I wonder why Lucas did not hire him earlier, like for ROTJ. HE clearly exists as producer so that Lucas can do what he wants. And the SEs are not done. There will be more changes next year. And probably after that, if the mood strikes Lucas. I wonder if McCallum will be involved in the T.V. series. What is his official job, anyway?

Lawsuit on George Lucas?
Time
I don't want money (well, OK; I do, but that's besides the point). I just want a high-quality OOT DVD release before I die. I seriously doubt that we could win a lawsuit against Lucas, and in any case, I don't particularly want to; like I've said, I just want high-quality OOT DVDs. It would be interesting to see what would happen, and if it would bring the OOT issue into the eyes of the mainstream, then I'd be interested. But quite frankly, I think that what we really need is to apply as much pressure as humanly possible to Lucas from other sources, especially since it does not look like the September discs will sell well. What we really need is some way to get the man's attention without ticking him off. And a lawsuit would not thrill him. At all. If you know any celevrities or mainstream media, contact them.

If the OOT has gotten a proper release before that show airs, then yes. Otherwise, probably no. I'm pretty much done with most of LFL's products until I see the one I want.

I ain't watching shit.......F*** the TV show. Hope it dies a quick ratings death and gets pre-empted by every sports game imaginable.

Now that ROTS has come out, they need something new to milk, so instead of doing what the fans want and restoring the OOT like they should, they are puting this out. Sooner or later, they'll ahve nothing left to release on DVD and hopefully then we'll see the restored OOT. Perhaps sooner.

It may not be a lie from where Mr. Singh is sitting; consider the idea that Lucas has said that the LaserDisc source is the only one he is making available for the DVD. In that scenario, it is the best restoration available to the team that has pushed this idea this far. It seems that we have like-minded people within Lucasfilm but that they are being denied, too (even if they are only in it for the money, I'd see no reason that there wouldn't be people pushing for the best quality possible).

Ok, fine, but what they are saying is that this is the best that that they can do and Lucas is leaning on him. That doesn't change the fact that there are better prints, and saying that that the LD master are the best that they have is a lie, pure and simple.

It seems likely that Lucas is afraid that the market (read: "the fans to whom he's been a god all of these years") might prefer the OOT to his "artistic intentions" and deny the SEs in their choice of which version to buy. The issue seems to lie with Lucas alone.

True, but consider his MTV comments. He really doesn't think that there is anyone interested in the OOT. God willing, this release will prove him wrong.

Amen and amen. We can keep complaining here in the forum, or we can try to take this battle to Lucas by writing to the media.

This isn't over. Lucas has lowered his defenses with the 2006 release. Lets rush him. Who knows? Maybe, at some point before hell freezes over, we can see a proper release of the OOT. Maybe we can still win this. And call me Mike .

If this release sells well, which it just might, then maybe Lucas will star to get the message ever so slightly.

"It's funny when people obsess over things like that - it' unbelievable. The person they adore and worship, who made the original film in the first place, says "This is the way it was meant to be..." And then they can't cope with it. The fans are strange, but in a delightfully damaged way."

I don't adore and worship him, Rick. I really don't care what was meant to be. I want a high quality version of the originals of my own. After that, Lucas can mess with the films "he made" (I'm sure that Irvin Kershner, Gary Kurtz, Lawrence Kasdan, Richard Marquand, and the millions of craftsman and technicians who worked their tails off to get the original versions made would apprecate that) all he wants to. You seem to have trouble grasping this concept Rick--we really don't care, good, bad, or indifferent about the SEs. We just want to watch copies of the originals that meet industry standards. Why is it that whenever OOT fans express a desire for the original version, we are attacking Lucas's vision? That's like saying that a critic who pans Brokemback Mountain is homophobic. Perhaps he simply didn't like the film? Perhaps we simply don't like the SEs, but have nothing against the man? Just release versions of the originals that don't suck and we will shut up. Otherwise, we will continue this fight. You can't win Rick. You can't. And sooner or later, you will give in. Its really not unbeiveable. Ah, well. At least they're advertising the OOT. Please God, let it sell well.

Am I the only one who finds Rick McCallum significantly more annoying than Geoge Lucas?

After Lucas passes away, I worry that Rick might still attempt to surpress the OOT. Of course, I also believe that the OOT will come out before Lucas dies anyway, and so the point will be moot. Really, George, Rick, I wish you guys long, happy, healthy lives. I really do. But release the versions of the movies that I want.

Rick McCockum

That was a little immature.

Phew. I guess the OOT DVD really were "In Demand".

They were, but as they are being released as substandard transfers, lots of people don't want to buy that.

I hope so. The interesting thing is this: they're answering. They may be answering with what amount to a backhandedness or at worst a big "!@#$ you," but they are answering.

These are the movies you will find on disc one in each of the two-disc sets that are being released on Sept. 12. The source for the bonus material is the 1993 Laserdisc master, which represents the best restoration that has been possible on the original movies.

No, it does not. That is a bald-faced lie.

There are no plans for further restoring those earliest theatrical versions.

Really? Like when the OOT would never be released on DVD or when the 1995 release was the last time?

You might be aware already, but in 2004 the three movies (Episodes IV, V and VI) were fully restored and released on DVD in beautiful digitally remastered prints.

The ones with the inverted sound and the miscolored video? As the SEs. Which is not what we want.

I really do appreciate your enthusiasm for the movies.

No, clearly you don't.

I hope you will be able to understand that we want to both honor George Lucas's artistic intentions as well as provide those first versions for DVD viewers.

Then do. No one is denying Lucas's artistic intentions. We just want properly restored versions of the OOT. Until you give them to us, we are not going to be satisfied.

This is raising my hopes ever so slightly. I haven't seen any commercials yet. Perversely, I hope that these discs sell well and that Lucas gets the message. I wonder if they'll even be advertised. Oh, wait, it's Lucasfilm. Of course they will. I hope to God that they sell well. Everyone cross their fingers. And pray.

In any case, all 3 will move up when the marketing starts, as you said.

I hope so. When will the marketing start? You'd think that Lucasfilm would be marketing the hell out of these discs, just because they have the SW logo on them.

It takes more than die-hard fans to generate sales to make these kind of rankings. It takes lots of casual fans and viewers as well. These numbers are starting to make me feel better, because I think the only chance we have of ever getting a high-quality O-OT on DVD from Lucas is high sales on this one.

As I said, if you have any religious beliefs, stary praying.

"Sales of the OOT would go at least head to head with the SEs."

Jay Sylvester. I hope so. Everyone cross their fingers. Maybe we can still win this.

Please God.
