Lord Of The Rings Limited Edition DVDs
Time
Mr. Sylvester, you're an LOTR fan? Wow. Anyways, I don't know. I love the fact that Jackson is so willing to give fans what they want, but apart from the new docs, I'm not sure. The theatrical and EE discs that I have are just phenomenal as it is, and I'm not sure that I want to sepend the money. Still thanks to Jackson for the offer of both versions. Taken from high quality sources. In anamorphic widescreen. With multiple audio tracks.

Sending the SEs back
Time
I think that sending the SEs back would be an interesting idea, but we must remember to be respectful. As angry as we are, we do not want to piss Lucas off. We also need to get a lot of people involved. As small message attached to the disc would be a good idea, preferably one which make our feelings clear respectfully.

"We want you to be aware that we have no plans-now or in the future-to restore the earlier versions."

Then, unfortunately, we want you to be aware that we have no plans, now or in the future, to purchase any future Lucasfilm products ever again until a restoration of the originals is made available. Also, put in something respectful about how you consider the SEs inferior and don't want them.

This will push the sales up...and Lucas will see first hand that people want the OUT.

Let's hope so. See, here's the thing. Lucas may be able to say that people bought this release for the SEs and not the OOT, although that would be incredibly stupid and contractic the statement that he made on the MTV interview. But he CANNOT SAY that he released the OOT and no one wanted it. He can't. Not now that sales figure are in. As the disc's preorders have really gone up to good, if not quite great (their current Amazon position indicates that

Quit Whining

Oh, and are you going to delete my post? Hmmm? Is that how you're going to counter me? Because I thought we believed in free speech, and seeing how this post hasn't broken any of the rules (maybe cursing, but that could easily be edited), I don't see any reason in it being deleted. Oh wait, no, you guys probably don't believe in free speech, and that's probably why you keep bitching at George Lucas for original versions when he's free to release whatever he wants. Fucking communists.

Isn't that more like a dictatorship?

I just can't get this out of my head: there has got to be some logical reason why these aren't going to be anamorphic (other than "Lucas trying to screw the fans over"). No matter how bad you wanted to prove a point, I doubt you would risk your company's reputation...right?!?!?!?!?

Well, there's the official line as I received from Lucasfilm Ltd. Publicity Rep John Singh that the LaserDisc source is the source "which represents the best restoration that has been possible on the original movies".

Whether this means that there doesn't exist a print or that Lucas won't allow a print to be made available is open to interpretation. Theories abound since Lucas went on a Star Wars film recall spree years ago and apparently destroyed all the prints he could get his hands on.

Ahem.

How George Lucas created the O-OT fanbase...

I begged my Mom for my first VCR so that I could buy a tape of Star Wars and watch it, and I bought a LD player so I could watch the OOT on LD. I'm sure many others can say the same.

Lucas cannot seem to grasp this concept, which is a shame, as a proper OOT DVD release would earn him tons of money. Sigh. Pray.
