Lol, I don't think any slasher movie is supposed to be analyzed in that great a detail. You could come up with just as many questions with any Nightmare on Elm Street, Friday the 13th, or Hellraiser film if you really wanted to. Scary movies like those are almost cheesy on purpose.

I agree. The point that I am making is that Halloween is held in such high esteem compared to its slasher brethern, and I'm wondering why.

I suppose, but many said the same of laserdiscs. With my luck, you're probably right, but I guess we'll find out, won't we?

Risky? Hardly. First of all, the only new format it can be released on is Blu-Ray because both Lucas and Fox have pledged their support of that format. Second, something as mega-popular as Star Wars could only HELP a format like Blu-ray become more popular. People aren't going to buy one machine over the other because they like a certain player better than the other. They're going to buy whicever one has more attractive media or simply more titles in general.

Now, if they release the box set ONLY on Blu-ray and not DVD, that would seriously impact the amount of sales and most likely wouldn't be worth it. Not to metion the fact that single-disc releases on Blu-ray hover around $30. A box set would probably be close to $150. From a marketing standpoint, it would be wise for them to release it on both Blu-ray and DVD to maximize sales while at the same time helping the success of Blu-ray and catering to videophiles.

Blu-Ray is primarly for videophiles, correct?

I want to see the OOT in an HD format, though I could care less about bells and whistles. Lowry fucked up the last release and I'm not too keen on buying anything Star Wars that has his name attached to it. All of this at this point is conjecture. Only time will tell.

Agreed. The HD formats may not work out. Most people just upgraded to DVD. I can't see most people doing that for so much money.

Its a slasher movie. Period. What differentiates from the endless series of clones that followed it? Carpenter? I like some of his work, but Hitchcock he ain't. Teenagers have sex. They die. The end. Then there are the endless gaping plot holes. Laurie puts her keys in her pocket and then they're not there, how in all the hells does Michael Myers know how to drive after he's been incarcerated for decades, why does he come to Haddonfield, and why in the name of all that is holy does he not die when six rounds are emptied into his chest? The mask serves what purpose? He's not disfigured. Why exactly am I supposed to care about these characters? I just want Michael to slash them before they can say "totally" again. I don't remember my adolescene that way. Oh, and there are the fun low budget mistakes, like the leaves that seem to fall in front of only one house during autum. Anyone who is in the center of the widescreen frame, with one exception, is perfectly safe. What kind of baby-sitter leaves the kids to go across the street? And why, for the love of Roddy McDowell, does Michael walk from house to house? What, evil can't run? A Nighmare on Elm Street is back for a limited time too over on this side of the pond.

But just go read the page. I wouldn't doubt the accuracy of most of it.

Again, I say what page? I might think about reading it if someone would post a damn link.

I doubt it. Lucas has some kind of genetic inability to release only one edition of his films.

Lucas isn't a bad person for selling a DVD set and expecting money in return for it.

Who said it was? It's what the DVD set probably won't contain that concerns us.

LOL! they'll not release anything SW on blu-ray for at least five years, and no, i will never buy the PT again. I doubt that the OOT will be on blu-ray in HD standards

We'll see a good OOT DVD release and HD release eventually, I'm sure.

Regardless of whether it's reliable or not, my only point was that anyone who posts something like this needs to cite where they get their information if they want to be taken seriously.

As far as Wikipedia is concerned, just because something is on there and hasn't been edited doesn't mean it's true. That article may be nothing more than the accepted opinion of those who frequent the Star Wars pages of Wikipedia. Hardly something to be taken as gospel...

I don't think I said anything about it being taken as gospel. But just go read the page. I wouldn't doubt the accuracy of most of it. What SW posted sounds perfectly plausible, and we all know it to be true anyway.

As I said, will there be a remastered OOT? Otherwise, I don't care.

Hyperspace: Yep, I Think that Something is DEFINITELY up for '07!

I rarely go to Star Wars' official site but I figured I would pop over there to see if there is anything new about the 09/12 release. There on the homepage you see the following:

Hyperspace Reveals the Secrets of Star Wars 07
May 10, 2006

Fans are already primed to make next year a Star Wars year to remember. 2007 marks the 30th anniversary of the beloved saga, and already there are whispers of possible events that will commemorate that milestone. But what hasn't yet been talked about is the biggest entertainment event of the year: a major addition to the Star Wars mythos.

It begins now. As with the earliest glimpses of Episode III, Hyperspace will be the first place to get a look at the secrets 2007 holds. A new image series, rich with explosive and intriguing concept art, is your first look at next year's biggest Star Wars surprise. Hyperspace members, click here to see it.

You can see it only in Hyperspace, and this is just the start. If you're not yet a member of Hyperspace: The Official Star Wars Fan Club, then sign up today!

And then on this page the 6th bullet point:

Exclusive new videos, including glimpses into forthcoming Star Wars DVD releases and other rarities unearthed from the Lucasfilm archives.

Even though it says the above was written in March 10, 2006 ('07 info on May 10), I think it is highly, HIGHLY suspect that they kept the March update around and linked it with the more recent '07 one. Sure it can be argued that the sentence above is talking about the 09/12 release, but LFL had more than enough time to update since that announcement. Since they have not, I say they didn't because there are even more releases and "rarities" on the way.

Anymore news? We now conflicting reports with this, the MTV interview, and the "FIRST AND ONLY TIME" thing. What in the hell is going on?

Star Wars HD coming in November! All SIX movies!
Time
Originally posted by: CO
The sad thing is I have no interest anymore, and that is where I have split from the current SW fanbase that Lucas caters to. Just think about the 6 movies, I don't love any of them!! I just love the O-OT versions, not Greedo shooting first, not Hayden in ROTJ, and not some dumb song in Jabbas palace that should be on MTV. As for the PT movies, they are just another set of movies that came out from 99-05 that I will probably forget about in years to come, only to reminded that they are part of the saga now, so they will never die.

If this were 10 years ago and the O-OT, or the OT then was playing on Cinemax on HD, I would be escatic and be jotting down those dates just like I did whenever they came on SciFi and TBS every years around Christmas even though I had them on VHS. But Lucas has pretty much created the O-OT fanbase, and with the non-anamorphic release has pretty much said to anyone who prefers those version, "See ya." I say to SW on CinemaxHD, "See ya."

I see it more like him saying "put your money where your mouth is." And the sales figures show that people have do so. Now we wait.

For Those who bought the Sept. 12th Release, Thoughts so far?

I've had a weird reaction. I love how different the 3 are from each other. So much that I think the 2007 set should just be a simple 6 disc thing: the theatrical versions of all SIX movies, as they were in the theaters, flaws and all. No commentaries, just 6 good transfers. The movies have been talked to death, there'll be an HD set eventually, let's just let it stand as it really was for a while!

I wish.

I'm disgusted with Lucas - I'm not counting on there ever being an anamorphic release of the OOT in the future.

We said that before, and we got the discs. And they are selling well. It's a step. Let us not give up hope.

Now, who wants to start campaigning for a remastered/anamorphic OOT with FX cleanup?

We need a new petition. The battle is not over.
