Outside of X0, what are you talking about? I just can't see enough demand to get Lucas to care.

It was the first movie to have a completely CG main character (Years before the Two Towers), and TPM was the first film to make extensive use of realistic virtual sets (sorry the 5th Element doesn't cut it here)... Sorry, I know this pains prequel bashers but TPM was not "variations on a theme"... and in fact I would go so far as to say TPM deserves to be in the Top 10 of that list. Most of today's movies owe a lot to ILM's accomplishments for Episode I.

TPM did a lot more than just build on the work of T2. Things like the texture modeling and clothing animation they did for the CG characters were new concepts for a live-action film. And VFX supervisor John Knoll was quoted as saying he had no idea how they were going to do a lot of the shots in the film when they started pre-production.
I guess in the end all I'm saying is that TPM is much more deserving of being on that list than ROTJ.

Not disagreeing, but I think that it's difficult to deny the accomplishments of the Rings films (or their flaws; I can see both). The Massive Engine took the armies in intriguing new directions. Not to take anything away from Star Wars.
I'm going out on a limb here to theorize that you are not fond of Jackson and LOTR?

Say what you want about the Prequels but they are no where near the mess that Spider-Man 3 is, at the script level. I mean, it's just plain bad on a lot of serious levels...things that should've been caught before this film even started shooting.

Possibly because many, many people think that the prequels are "silly" too. True, some don't. It's a mess at script level because the producers forced Raimi to shoehorn in elements which he didn't want to. Not to say that SM3 is necessarily a lot better than the prequels, but if ever there was a case of the pot calling the kettle black, this is it. I mean, how can Lucas, how wrote dialogue like "Yousa in deep doo-doo this time" call it "silly?" Jumpman, is there ANYTHING-any business decision, frame of film, line of dialogue, anything at all-that you think Lucas have EVER done wrong? I mean, you're perfectly entitled to you beliefs, but the words "in my opinion" keep failing to show up before you posts.

Well, it depends on a lot of things. But think that if he would put his full and considerable resources to work, then he could please ALMOST everybody.

You're right. So I'll watch the version I want and he can watch the version he wants in high quality and we'll both be happy. Oh, wait. That's right. I can't. That's why. Really, everything could meet halfway.

Lucas' opinion matters just as much as Frank's and Steven's. In the end, his ego is really, really starting to show, since this has been a non-issue for a few years now.

Lucas's ego is starting to show too; Spielberg is the DIRECTOR and it was two to one. Maybe you're right; maybe Darabont's script sucked and Lucas made the right choice. Oh, and Philip Kaufman created Indy too, and no one has asked him anything. But seriously, I think that Lucas's autocracy is really starting to tick off a lot of the people who work with him. Sure, he's within his rights to do these things, but that doesn't mean that people have to like them.

Given the amount of money the prequels made, I'd say that, sadly, more SW would make a ton of money.
