The Place to Go for Emotional Support
Time

I want to thank everyone here for the kindness and support that has not only been shown to me, but continues to be. It’s nice to have a place to be able to vent without being judged and have listening ears (Or keyboards, but whatever). I still have a long way to go towards ever being back to where I should, if I ever will be, but it’s nice to know that I can come here and have friends who’ll listen. I have a few in real life, as it were, but not a ton, and having you all here has really been an nice way to be able to get some of my problems down and try to organize my thoughts and just generally receive help, advice, and simple kindness. I guess that in a long winded, pretentious, and altogether unnecessary way, I’m simply saying “Thanks, guys.” You’ve all been kind, caring, and just plain old nice. So thanks. It means a lot.

Are The Prequels That Bad?
Time

See, I think that the prequels have a couple of problems. They suffer from a push-pull; like Sergio Leone, I think Lucas started to want to have bigger ideas and even political ones, but they were at odds with the kids adventures he’d created to be the Star Wars world. Also, I think the main problem is this: the prequels have many interesting concepts and ideas in them, but their writing and direction fall so flat. Lucas still stages action sequences well, but simply has no skill with actors or dialogue. As a result, the cool, archetypal, epic battle between good and evil is mired in the whining of Hayden Christensen (May not be his fault, don’t know, with the character he’s stuck with, it’s hard to tell) and inane dialogue: “You underestimate my power!” “Love won’t save you.” “You’re breaking my heart!” Cringe-worthy, almost laugh-out loud funny dialogue doesn’t sell the good story (and it often is a good story) that Lucas came up with. He’s a great idea man and a good producer, but he needs other people to help him execute the ideas well. It’s a shame, because there’s a lot of potential there. I wouldn’t hate the prequels at all if they weren’t part of the reason for the constant changes to the OT, however. At worst, I’d probably be indifferent to them.

Oh boy, take another look at Reeds Twitter comment … especially what that self-proclaimed ‘huge nerd’ Rae Ivywood has to say.

It’s fun to think that a grassroots Twitter campaign could get the OOT could get more attention. It won’t happen, but it’s fun to imagine.

I wonder how many times people, in this thread, have said one of the following things:

  • This is obviously the reason it hasn’t been released!
  • This is the reason it will be/won’t be released!
  • It’s obviously going to be released in [insert year here]!
  • But [insert name of person here] said so!

Perhaps this could become a drinking game.

Well, I think that hoping for it before 2020 is a fool’s errand. IF it’s happening, I think we have to buckle down and accept that’s the absolute earliest, if it’s happening at all.

They have no reason to keep waiting past May of 2020.

I’m not going to hold my breath until then, but the situation with Fox is very obviously the reason it hasn’t happened just yet.

But 2020 is so fucking far away!

Please release a Blu-ray of the original, unmessed-with version of STAR WARS I loved when I was 13.

Thanks,

And retweeted at the OT twitter. Thanks for finding that.

Huh. I didn’t know we were on Twitter. How many followers do we have?

He’s worked for Disney too. Won’t mean anything in the long run, or the short run for that matter, but it was nice of him to articulate what we’ve all been saying for many years.

I want to fucking reset the play count of multiple songs in iTunes, but iTunes has removed the ability for me to do this and I can’t find a workaround.

I have a serious first-world problem here 😉 😄.

Select multiple tracks, then right-click, click on Get Info, then click Reset.

The new version of iTunes removed that.

Ah, so, it has returned. I’m a brainless fucking idiot. Carry on.

Unfortunately, now they’ve removed the ability to sync apps, and I have no idea if there’s a new program or what, judging by what’s on Apple’s official website, there’s not.

You’re supposed to download apps on your phone now.

I see. And suppose it was easier to keep them Organized moving them in iTunes and then syncing them up? And now iOS 11 has removed the useful features on the keyboard! Does Apple test any of this before unleashing it on an unsuspecting public?

Clearly the testers are highly impractical or not much use 😉.

I just hate all the damn speculating. I wish Disney would give some kind of damn statement.

They already did. Kathleen Kennedy already said it’s not going to happen. Just a bunch of people who can’t take a hint and like to bury their heads in the sand.

I didn’t hear that, but heartbreaking as it is, it’s not surprising.

I just can’t see the OOT ever getting released on its own. As a 2nd disc feature, maybe.

IF the OOT was restored correctly, and I mean 100% correctly, […]

This will be an issue, if Disney is going to restore the OOT: What IS 100% correctly?

No matter how good, precise or accurate they could do it, there will be a certain amount of people who will shout out loud how wrong, imprecise or inaccurate their restoration is. They can’t please everyone because too much time has passed. Opinions on how the restoration should look & sound like are diverging day by day.

Well, no including any of the changes from the 1997, 2004, and 2012 versions would be a good start.

YodaFan67 said:

For example, do they or do they not include “a new hope” in the crawl?

No. It wasn’t there in 1977, it shouldn’t be there.

Fang Zei said:

Getting Robert A. Harris to supervise an OOT restoration would eliminate most disagreements about how it should look.

Yeah, and I’m spending tomorrow night with Alexandra Daddario 🙄.

As long as the film is cut right and Han and Leia’s faces aren’t Magenta, I’d be happy. Everyone who thinks their specific color preferences should carry some weight because they’re reflected in print X or Y is neurotic, IMO. How green were the Death Star walls on a new 1977 Kodak print? I don’t care.

If Lucas hadn’t bee fucking with the prints ever since it fucking came out, that might be easier to tell.

moviefreakedmind said:

What would prompt you to download a fan edit? If it’s an OOT release on blu ray, why go to a fan edit?

As long as he owns said release, I don’t necessarily see a problem.

There is actually. Not a great one, but still a reason.

I dunno, I see what you mean, but frankly, if the average person ever switches to any audio track besides the one that the disc starts with, I’d frankly be surprised. I’m not saying it should be the primary track, but even Gone With the Wind and The Wizard of Oz include the original mono, albeit in lossy DD 1.0. I’m not saying make it the primary track, just put it on there. Speaking of which, has anyone here done a restoration on the mono track for T1?

As crazy as this may sound, they may not see “mono” as a big selling point anymore in 2017. It should obviously be included, but they are probably afraid uninformed people will listen to the mono track by accident and hear how flat it sounds quality wise (even if the sound effects are Superior) and be turned off. I’m sure someone out there has made a patched version of the 5.1 mix and fixed the effects though.

I understand that it’s not a selling point to anyone except purists, but there’s no reason to leave it off the disc.

IF the OOT was restored correctly, and I mean 100% correctly, I’d be more than happy to pay virtually any price, and putting it in a big boxed set seems the most likely scenario to squeeze more money out of the small fanbase.
