Here’s another video that some of you may find interesting—a British family recently on vacation in CA found many of the shooting locations for BTTF 1, 2 & 3. What amazes me is how so many places still look the same and how tiny the original “Enchantment” stage was. I actually found parts of it to be quite eerie for some reason:

One thing that’s always bugged me about this song is that I never thought the singer was a very good match for MJF.
As imperfect as his singing voice is, I wish they’d given him a shot at singing it himself—with multiple takes I think they could have cobbled something passable together.

Yeah, I came across some of the LDs on eBay.
I remember those video jukeboxes—so 1980s. Kids today don’t know what they’re missing. 😉 I think they were LD-based. There weren’t too many of them around (expensive, I guess). I think I saw them once or twice in a restaurant or bar.
Where are all the BTTF completeists? 😛
Anyhow, I did a bit of digging to see if I could find a promo copy of the video on cassette (vhs or 3/4" u-matic or whatever) and I found out that there were a couple of video subscription services in the 1980s, one called Telegenics and one called Rockamerica (who knew?!) Apparently, the video was released on both of these.
I found a guy who has the original tapes and trades dvd-r copies, but he hasn’t emailed me back yet and I don’t know if I’m going to hear from him.
In the meantime, I found a couple of places where you can supposedly download the video–I don’t know about the quality but they’re apparently also sourced from the subscription tapes. I don’t know if this is legit, but if anyone wants to give it a shot…(I’d do it myself but I don’t know much ‘bout this downloadin’ stuff LOL):

The Los Angeles market had two local music video shows I know of that often played stuff MTV didn’t. Other large cities may have had something similar?
I remember Night Tracks-- that could be it.
The NY area had a show called “New York Hot Tracks” hosted by Carlos DeJesus that showed Top 40, but mostly R&B/Funk stuff…a lot of Prince (lots of clips on youtube).
Have you seen the new documentary material from the 2015 BTTF blu-ray release? I have the 2010 one, but I’m just curious if that “rock n’ roll” bit ever made it into any of the newer documentaries. You can see how when they shot it they may have been thinking that it kind of dovetailed the earlier scene in the film when Marty blows up the amp.
I don’t recall this one at all. The Huey Lewis video was in heavy rotation at the time. That looks like it aired on one of the music video shows that competed with MTV before exclusivity deals killed them off.
I’m thinking it’s from “Friday Night Videos” which I think aired on NBC back when Letterman was only on 4 days a week.
I’m surprised none of that extra footage (especially the end) was ever in any of the BTTF documentaries, although I haven’t seen the new ones on the 2015 blu-ray release.

Something like that was for sale on eBay about 10 or 15 years ago. The original tape was encased in a plexiglass display box/case, and there was a mp3-type digital recorder/player attached with the contents of the tape, so you could press 'play' and hear what was on the tape without having to touch the original.

I'm a Struzan fan. While I don't like the SE's, I do like his artwork, especially for ANH.
My favorite Star Wars poster of all time is the Struzan/White "circus" poster used for the '78 re-release. I never cared much for the designs used in '77. I thought they were hokey and it bothered me that the illustrations didn't resemble the actors very much.
Mkay...I've learned that one easy way to identify a dye-transfer print is by its silver/gray soundtrack strip. If...anyone still cares. ;-)
I just bought a few of these so that I could look at them in person. I'll have to do a little research to see if there are any tell-tale signs that these are truly IB cels, which I hope they are.

Offhand, does anyone know of a fairly easy way to determine if these are IB cels as opposed to photochemical? I imagine the "emulsion" side of the film would look different (?)

I've heard that the separations were done incorrectly and because they weren't tested at the time, they only recently discovered this. I recall something about Lucas being overheard telling someone at some sort of awards ceremony that the blue record was screwed up. I think this is common with films preserved this way, with the seps not being tested due to budget, indifference, laziness or whatever.
