Emmet Otter's Jugband Christmas (Complete) - (Released)
Time
I JUST found my tape of Emmet Otter that I taped off of HBO in the mid-1980s. It's in SLP, (as I figured) but it looks remarkably good. Unfortunately- I accidently taped over the last few minutes of it at some point, long ago.

I also have a complete tape of the Nick version, (which is SP and hi-fi sound), but I noticed that there is a transition that is missing from the Nick version (because of the 1 commercial fade-in/out) that is present on the HBO version.

I think it's worthwhile (if possible) to edit in the transition from the HBO version into the Nick version, as the Nick fade-out is a bit clunky.

I don't know if anyone is still working on this, but I'd be happy to provide both of these versions, if you still need them.

Giorgio Moroder's Metropolis (Released)

Only issue is that unlike most fanedits where they just rearrange scenes and insert footage, I'm doing it literally frame by frame. There's a surprising variation between versions in the arrangement of shots to the use of completely different takes with differing lengths. It's almost like doing animation, but I really want to get it right. It's probably going to pick up speed soon and I can see it being done in a few months. Oh, and I also just replaced my laserdisc player that had died on me, so I'm going to attempt to get a digital PCM rip of the soundtrack rather than just the analog capture I had been using. I'm pretty excited about that. It should sound great.
I'm glad someone is finally doing this! I saw the Moroder version of Metropolis in a movie theater in NYC in 1984. There are good aspects about both the Moroder LD and the Kino DVD. The things I like best about the Moroder version is the soundtrack, the color tinting, and the way they used still photos to fill in the missing footage. That's my biggest disappointment about the Kino version- the fact that they stuck all of the still photos they had in the supplement section, rather than insert them into the film. The Kino DVD shows many more stills than were used in the Moroder version (which may have not been available to Moroder at the time) and I think it was a waste for them not to have used them.

Is George Lucas a fan of Star Wars?

We edited THX in our attic, we edited American Graffiti over Francis’ garage, I just don’t get it, George.’ The Lucasfilm empire—the computer division, ILM, the licensing and lawyers—seemed to me to be this inverted triangle sitting on a pea, which was the Star Wars trilogy. But he wasn’t going to make any more Star Wars, and the pea was going to dry up and crumble, and then he was going to be left with this huge facility with its enormous overhead. And why did he want to do that if he wasn’t going to make movies? I still don’t get it.”

That's an amazing quote. Where did it come from?

Exactly! Was Lucas actually claiming that if he didn't make the Prequels, he wouldn't be financially independent today? Give me a friggin' break!

I'd say it's a safe bet that nobody on this site would want to see the SE destroyed- as long as the OOT was available in a format that is equal or better (i.e.- an anamorphic DVD release or a HiDef release).

Heck, I might even dare WATCH the SEs again*, if I had the choice to also own the OOT in a comparable format.

(*except the last 5 minutes of ROTJ '04, which I still couldn't stomach)

Star Wars Holiday Special on ABC's "Nightline"

I wonder what was the first night it actually aired? The website shows the 26th, and the clip's intro from there says "Christmas may be over...", but we were talking about it before that. Sounds like you saw it the night of the 20th, Mielr... so I'm assuming it aired more than once. Can you spot any differences?
Yes, it was the night of the 20th that it originally aired.

I'm pretty sure it only aired once, so they must have added the "Christmas may be over..." part for the website. I can't view the website version, so I can't tell you if there are any differences, but I can tell you that the version I recorded is 4 minutes long, including one Nightline bumper and Terry Moran's intro and outro.

EDIT: It was Josh Berman talking to a writer for Time Out New York about the Holiday Special and how bad it is, how it's not available on video but you can see it on YouTube, etc. and how George Lucas doesn't want anyone to see it etc. They showed a few brief clips of it as well.

I've never seen anything about the HS on such a mainstream show. It makes me wonder if it's now just a matter of time before there's an official release.
Anybody happen to record this little bit of history? I'd be very interested in getting my hands on this.

Star Wars: The Best of 2007 (Looking Back at 30 Years)

So it is sort of a double edge sword to being a fan these days. Personally, I don't expect something every year. However, I WOULD have expected something for the film's 30th Anniversary (aside from the "making of" book), but when they blew their wad with the DVDs in '06, I knew we weren't getting anything else of importance for Star Wars' 30th.

FWIW, the original BTTF DVD set was actually mis-framed and the studio had to set up an exchange program to replace the discs.

I'd buy it for the Boba Fett cartoon. All things considered, it's no worse than the Ewok movies, or the Donny and Marie Star Wars musical.

If there's a buck to made, Lucas will unleash it, and cry all the way to the bank!

You'd pay full DVD price for a VERY crappy cartoon with a run time of under ten minutes? All things considered it is a hell of a lot worse than the Ewok movies, at least those tried to be something, the HS is just a crappy variety show with the SW name tacked along with a few of its characters. Other than that the most SW aspect of it are people parading around in modified monkey suits pretended to be Chewbacca's family. It would have honestly taken them an immense effort to have made the HS any worse than it is.

Yeah, except that aside from the original films, it's the only show to feature the three lead actors in costume. To me, that alone makes it worth buying (but I'd prefer better than bootleg-quality, of course).

Yep, Cleopatra is pretty well gone. Nice to see another Harold And Maude fan! I didn't know there were cut scenes - I know a copy of the original novel is floating around online (it's out of print, I think).
Yeah, there are some still photos in existence from the H&M cut scenes (who knows if the footage still exists- probably not). One scene consisted of Harold constructing a dummy of himself, which he was then going to chop the head off of to freak his mother out. The scene showed his mother coming to the door of his room and talking to the dummy (not knowing it's not Harold), while Harold sits in his closet and listens in.

"Bud Cort visited the Cinematheque Francaise to publicly present Jacques Tati with a donation for the Museum of Cinema - a severed Harold head from a fake suicide scene ultimately cut from the movie." (from news article)

There are also a few snippets of cut scenes in the DVD's movie trailers.

I've said this before, but, "altering the Mona Lisa" is a BAD example. Leonardo carried that painting around with him for YEARS & CONTINUED to work on it for YEARS. he made MANY alterations before it became the masterpiece as we now know it.

& since i'm on the subject, just thought i'd clarify a pet peeve of mine. His name is Leonardo... NOT "da Vinci", despite what an ignorant book from recent years might have you believe... Calling him "da Vinci" would be like calling Michael Jordan "from Chicago".

So, i guess i agree with the idea you're expressing with the mona lisa example. It's just that the mona lisa is a poor choice to exemplify that idea....

Just to play devil's advocate a bit .......was the Mona Lisa exibited in a museum before the alterations were made? If so, I'd say you have a point. Otherwise, I'd say that the alterations he made were no different than the many alterations that an unfinished film goes through before it's exibited.

Also, (I know I've asked this before as well) didn't most surnames originally come from people's occupations or places of origin?

Ditto on both of those. Cleopatra is totally lost, isn't it (aside from about 3 feet of film) ???

Are there a lot of cut scenes from Raiders?

In addition the obvious Star Wars-related footage we'd all to have, I'd LOVE to have the cut scenes from Harold and Maude (which consist mainly of a couple more fake suicide attempts/pranks that Harold plays on his Mother).
