I'm glad Lucas didn't go that route with the Star Wars prequels. What people don't realize is that these movies are just as much for you as they are for new generation of kids (And, as I'm still in High School, I can call meyself one of them) and about half of the perceived "betterness" of the old movies and old effects are just because they are nostalgic (not to everybody but a lot of prequel bashers who grew up wih the originals).

You're showing a bias yourself by suggesting that even half of the members here who prefer organic special effects to CG effects do so because of nostalgia.
Since you're new here, I encourage you to look through the many years worth of threads that discuss the various viewpoints about FX techniques- you will find that there are MANY legitimate reasons that some fans prefer non-CG effects (though I have a feeling you're about to get an ear-full in this thread as well). ;-)

Right, only ONE member of this forum should be bidding- otherwise the other bidders are just driving up the price. If members want to put money towards it, there should be a paypal account to donate money to, and the owner of that account should be the one placing bids.

That's the version I have. That's the most complete version available, as far as I know. It uses the shorter web version as shown on Hyperspace (which I assume is the same as the Yahoo version but I can't get the Yahoo one to load) and combines it with the longer version screened at the fan convention.

It's been many years since they've shown the TV version with the four extra scenes. The only version they show on TV now (including TCM) is the theatrical cut.

He did a pretty good job combining the longer/poorer quality cam version with the shorter/higher quality web version. My only beef is that for some reason, some of the inferior sound from the cam version (with crowd noise that drowns out the dialog) carries over onto the superior web video portions.

Too bad nobody here got that scope ROTJ print that was up for auction a while back-
it's not likely we'll see another one of those anytime soon.

Has anyone done a preservation including the 4 scenes that were in the TV broadcast version? They are not included on the official DVD.

EDIT: Well, my sister has IE on her computer, and I couldn't access the photos on it, either. Screw it. :-P

If there's any difference in that scene, it's between the '97 version and the '04/'06 version.

See, I wanted them to know about it because it's just so good but at the same time, being a forum with connections to the home entertainment industry means that subjects such as fan editing are quite sensitive and there's a fine line to walk.
Yeah, I think there's a lot of cross-pollination between the 2 sites.Mielr said:

So, this is basically another prequel movie only without live actors this time? George Lucas has finally gone and done away with those pesky actors- he's been wanting to do that for years! :-P

That ronto thing has always confounded me. George usually only does that sort of thing to hide a jump cut. But I'm not aware of anything being cut, so WHAT WAS THE POINT?
Was the original film irreperably damaged for a second?
Did George hate the white droid?
Was Marcia Lucas a background extra?
This is one of my great unanswered Star Wars questions.

I hate the ronto, too.
I guess it was just one of those show-off kind of "HEY LOOK WHAT WE CAN DO WITH CGI" things. In other words, there is no point to it.

Unfortunately, we may never know the extent of the loss, because studios are loath to admit their carelessness for fear of bad publicity.
There was a terrible fire that destroyed many original tapes at Atlantic Records in 1978, and they tried to cover up the magnitude of the destruction by just saying something was "missing" when a tape was not found.

I was thinking the exact same thing the other day. Unfortunately, I fear the same may be said about John Williams as a composer.

Whoa! Where do you live, Manhattan?!
I nearly collapsed the other day when I bought my ticket and it was $10.00! (I live in a suburb of Atlanta, btw).
I don't usually go to the first-run movie theater, and evidently the prices have gone up since the last time I was there. However, I had an AMC gift certificate from Christmas and thought it would be good to use it to see Indy IV.
It will be a very long time before I go back to the AMC. There's no movie that I want to see so badly that I can't wait to see it at the dollar theater or on DVD.

The musical score from ROTJ is also my favorite among the 3 films.
I agree that no more films should have been made after ROTJ (they probably shouldn't have made any more Indiana Jones films, either! LOL)
