GOUT image stabilization - Released

edit.

I found the answer myself about the "Pwnage Edition":

I imagine that many people have made their own anamorphic DVDs from the OT "bonus" discs. For example, I made my own version of ANH which included the mono mix and original Dolby mix as alternative soundtracks. This was in 2007, before g-force had come up with the image stabilization script.

Info: The Star Wars Fan Edit Great Debate Thread.
Time

My biggest problem with the fan edits is how difficult it is to do research on them. If they're not listed in the DVD Index (and a LOT of them aren't) then the threads are difficult to find (which might have a lot to do with the search function). When you can find the thread for a particular fan edit, the specifics/details of the edit often aren't in the first post, as they logically should be.

Other than that, I don't have any problems with fan edits per se-

I can't wait for those '04 DVD/Gout hybrid OT editions. Who's doing those again? ;-)

6) Star Wars on DVD.  Maybe not the way most of us want it, but still...  We have cool documentaries and cut scenes.  That's a plus in my book.

8) New Star Wars toys.  Sure it took a while for Leia to not look like a chimp, but now the figures look great!  Maybe I should buy one or two.

10) Behind the Magic CD-ROM.  You have any idea how long I've wanted to see Biggs and Luke and Anchorhead.  This was huge.

I agree with you about those. I especially liked the Luke & Leia ceremonial action figures (yes, I bought them). ;-)

Not a fan of the SW Chronicles, though. Didn't buy it.

I'll add:

11) The GOUT. Better than the laserdiscs and a hell of a lot better than VHS. Plus, SW has the original crawl (that's gotta count for something!)

12) The Making Of Star Wars book. Probably the best SW-related book ever.

13) The Anthology CD boxed set.

14) The 70mm Film Collectables from Willitts Designs.

15) The SE 2-disc soundtracks...except for the new ROTJ music (sorry, the 1997 John Tesh/new age finale music is crap!) :-P

Yub Nub!!!!!!!!! ;-)

EDIT: sorry, just noticed mielr already asked the same.

But your thread got 6 replies, and mine got ........zero! LOL!

Aside from the problem of not being able to do a title-only search-

I've also noticed that you can't to a phrase search (meaning the linking of two or more words with quotes like "best anamorphic edit", for example) in order to narrow down the results. It actually seems to have the opposite effect- instead of getting results for one word individually, you get results for all three words individually- thus tripling your already too-numerous results. :-/

So.....yeah, some improvement on that front would be much appreciated. :-)

I was in my town library in the video section and found a 1995 VHS version of ANH, can I get an opinion if its messed with or not? I didn't get it but I was curious, if it's the original verion I may try to buy it off them.

That would be from the 'faces' set, if it is from '95, so yes it's the original version. Anything pre-1997 is the 'original' (pre-special edition) version.

This version is also available on the DVD 'bonus disc' (aka the "GOUT") - so there'd be no reason for you to try & buy an old VHS copy from a library.

When is Han told that Vader is Luke's father?

I don't know. I'm watching Return of the Jedi right now, so I'll pay attention. I never thought about whether Han is informed of the relationship between Vader, Luke and Leia before. I only remember the scene where she tells Han Luke is her sister.

That's my point- I don't think he WAS told. So, that makes things that much more confusing when you try to think of a possible explanation told to Han about why Luke left. Leia won't tell Han what's going on, and he only finds out about the Luke/Leia relationship after the DS explodes.

From Han's perspective, what reason would Luke have to go to kill Vader? What could be more important than helping the rebels destroy the shield generator so that Lando and the others can destroy the DS and kill the Emperor (and Vader too, presumably)?

WE know that Luke leaves to confront his father- but Han doesn't know this.

Return of the Jedi: the worst OT film?

Great topic by the way. It's got us talking about films we love* not bitching about ones we don't^. It's got some old school posters in here mixed with some new. The last topic like this that comes to mind was the one previously mentioned on the Han recue attempt even though I saw through all that nonsense ;).

I agree- talking about all the great scenes in ROTJ makes me want to watch it again.

I don't watch any of the OT films much anymore mainly because I've seen them sooooooo many times. Also, my new HDTV (just a 32") doesn't have a proper 'zoom' function, nor does my DVD player, so I have to watch the GOUT discs windowboxed, which is annoying.

I'll give them all another viewing when I get another DVD player that zooms.

Sluggo bought up ROTJ being slow but one could argue the ESB especially for children is slow. Admittedly after a stellar opening all you get before the final duel is a chase in the asteroids. Now this is not a criticism (it's the 'slow' moments that allow for meaning and character) it's extremely dumbing it down but as a kid maintenance and repairs on the Falcon hardly got me excited.

You could make that argument about Star Wars, too! The whole R2/3p0 scene in the desert, R2 getting captured by the Jawas, all the Vader/Tarkin chit-chat, etc. I think Star Wars takes a lot longer to get going than the other 2 films do.

I showed the OT to two kids for their first time several years ago, and the boy couldn't sit still thru the first 30 minutes of Star Wars. I kept telling him to sit down and watch, and he kept saying stuff like "when does it start getting exciting?" :-P

What ROTJ lacks is that great scene that gives you goosebumps.

SW goosebump moments:
-Luke looking at the charred remains of Owen & Beru and realizing his destiny

-Luke looking at the Binary Sunset

-Luke & Leia swinging across the Death Star to that great John Williams score

-Obiwan smiling at Luke as Vader cuts him down and Luke screaming, "NOO!"

-Han telling Luke, "You're all clear kid!"  and Luke blowing up the deathstar.

ESB:

-Yoda lifting the X-Wing to that great John Williams score

-Han telling Leia, "I know."  then being frozen in carbonite while Leia stares Darth Vader.

-Vader telling Luke, "No, I am your father!"

-The ending of ESB as Lando/Chewy fly away and Luke,Leia, C3PO and R2 stare out at the galaxy.

I honestly can't think of any scene in ROTJ that gives me goosebumps, there are great scenes like the Throne Room scene, but nothing that gets me like SW & ESB, that is the difference as to why I think ROTJ is the worst.

WHAT?!?!

ROTJ "goosebump moments":

-Luke entering Jabba's Palace

-Artoo shooting Luke's lightsaber out to him (& Luke catching it)

-The Falcon and Luke's X-wing leaving Tatooine & splitting off in different directions

-Yoda dying

-Luke finding out about Leia being his sister

-3P0's Ewok 'bedtime story'

-Luke & Leia 'balcony' scene with new "Luke and Leia" theme (the BEST EVER written by Williams!)

-"I will not fight you father"

-Vader taunting Luke & Luke going bonkers w/accompanying music*

-"I am a Jedi, like my father before me"

-Luke being electrocuted by the Emperor

-Vader throwing the Emperor into the shaft*

-Luke dragging Vader's body to the shuttle and unmasking him

-The Falcon and Luke barely escaping the DS explosion*

-THE FUNERAL PYRE SCENE!!!

*previously mentioned ;-)

the undestroyed pre 2004 version of Return of the Jedi is absolutely essential for the complete and satisfying Star Wars Experiance.

(anybody whose heart isn't warmed by the ending should check for a pulse, IMHO)

I agree with that- but I'd go a bit further and say the "undestroyed pre-1997" version. ;-)

I have no problem at all with ROTJ- I love it. I think all the great moments in the film should make up for any weaknesses perceived.

I was actually watching it on SPIKE today (fortunately, I tuned in after the Jedi Rocks & Saarlac/AudreyII abominations, and I deliberately changed the channel right after the funeral pyre scene) but something occurred to me that I never really thought about before, namely-

What was the reason Han was given for Luke leaving Endor? :-P
