Do you Fast Forward?

Really?  I always watch the end credits on any movie I watch.

Me too. At the movie theater, also. I like to see the peoples' names, locations, song titles, etc.

With the OT, I love the end credit music- to me it would be like missing part of the movie not to watch all the way thru the credits...& no, I don't FF>> ;-)

My Wish as a Star Wars and Indiana Jones fan. George Lucas please stop destroying Star Wars and Indiana Jones. Anyone else feel the same way?

Wasn't he kinda swimming in DePalma's wake there with the split screens? (like in Sisters and Carrie)? .

DePalma used split-screens in Phantom Of The Paradise, as well. Seems like he was kind of obsessed with it. :-P

Original Trilogy Reception 1977-1983

How does Revenge of the Sith with the new numbers fall just slighly below return of the jedi.  Jedi was a flawed but great film while Sith was a Turkey.

I refuse to account for the fact that Sith made more money makes it somehow a better film.

By that system Wrath of Khan sucks and JJ Abrams Trek is superior.

I agree 100%

BTW- are the Tomatometer reviews weighted differently? Are well-known movie reviewers given more weight than a blogger? Based on those initial Tomatometer rankings, I'm guessing not.

Joel Siegel and Siskel & Ebert both gave ROTJ great reviews in '83- their opinions are of more value to me than some nameless, faceless fanboy.

Team Conan or Team Jay?
Time

The story I always heard was that Jay told NBC in 2004 that he was thinking about retiring in 2009. Conan's contract was up for renegotiation at that time, so he asked that he be promised Jay's spot when he left. Jay changed his mind, but they already had a contract with Conan for him to helm the Tonight Show in '09, so they appeased Jay by giving him a 10pm show.

This seems more plausible to me than the idea of Conan demanding Jay's #1 show in 5 years regardless of whether or not Jay wanted to leave...?

Conan never had a shot to stand on his own with a decent lead-in (like Law & Order). Jay had the luxury of finding an audience and finally beating Letterman after being on the air for 2 years.

Does John Tesh suck?
Time

All I know about JT is that he used to host Entertainment Tonight w/Mary Hart, and he's married to the beautiful actress Connie Sellecka. I've only heard bits and pieces of his music, and I didn't care for what I heard. Kind of watered-down, Yanni-type new-age stuff. Some new-age/atmospheric stuff is great (like Nicklaus) but JT ain't it.

Avatar passes Star Wars at the box office
Time

It was bound to happen eventually. I don't think it will EVER sell as many tickets as SW did, though.

Nowadays, you go to see a movie once or twice and then wait for it to come out on DVD or blu-ray.

In '77, kids went to the theater multiple times, trying to sink in as much as possible before it left theaters because there was no video release of it until several years later (and most didn't have VCRs back then anyhow). Your only hope to see it again was a summer re-release the following year.

The 3D-thing is incentive to see Avatar many times since the technology isn't available for home yet, but I doubt that in today's economy people will be seeing the film 10 or 20 times theatrically.

GOUT image stabilization - Released
Time

G-force, I have just seen your recently uploaded Star Wars, and it is amazing!  I have seen a number of other attempts to clean up the theatrical version, and this is the best so far.  I'm so glad it features, "Blast it, Biggs, where are you?", as SW is not the same without this version of the line for me.

I cannot wait for ESB and ROTJ.  Thank you so much!

One thing I am curious about is that when people try to restore the GOUT they never use SE footage.  It seems to me that over 90% of the OT is untouched by alterations, so why not use footage from that - color-corrected of course - and just work on restoring the scenes that do differ as much as possible - rather than the whole film.

OCP did that with his 'classic' editions. Unfortunately, the OOT segments were from laserdisc (as they were done before the GOUT DVDs were released) and they have some other flaws, but they're still fairly decent, IMO. But right now my favorite editions are the ones dark_jedi made using G-force's scripts.

There were a couple of people here working on 'hybrid' projects using the SE DVDs and the GOUT DVDs, but I haven't heard about any progress for a while.
