Great news! I'm on my way to sign....
The Jabba scene in ANH:SE ruins Jabba's reveal in ROTJ. That's my main objection to it, aside from the fact that the CG and puppet Jabbas look nothing alike, and the ROTJ puppet Jabba is so superior to the CG Jabba.

A grim sense of humour. I always enjoy the part where Vader reminds Piett of how he reached his station. "Dont fail me again...admiral."
When I click on the link I get a tiny thumbnail and that's it. Is that what I'm supposed to be seeing?bkev said:
Works fine for me...

Is there more? I remember someone here (Mielr?) tried to do some collectible-70mm scans but they sort of came out a little blurry because of the glass casings.
I was also wondering if the Willitts cels were cast-offs of the SE process, although the SW cels came out in '95, which may have been a bit too early in the restoration project....but who knows.

I think the 70mm film cels from willets designs came from the original internegative or at least a duplicate.

Hopefully they don't really stink. I'm all for realism and whatnot, but c'mon.

Anyway, very recently some guy in a post at Home Theater Forum claimed the black and white separations weren't done right. He gave no source or explanation, he just said it was "his understanding." Has anyone heard this before?

I'm studying old school special effects and wanted to hear some of everybody's favorite visual feats in the trilogy. The thing I love most about many of the effects is that they're amazingly simple and doable on even the tightest budget.
My personal favorite is the starfields of the old trilogy, just holes poked into construction paper if I remember right. It's amazing that an entire universe can be conveyed to the audience by poking a tack through something that can be bought at a crafts store for 85 cents. Science fiction doesn't have to be a blockbuster game, we just need lower budget filmmakers to use a little practical imagination.
Didn't want Carrie's B-day to go by without an acknowledgement, either.
She & Mark Hamill share the same sun sign: Libra (he being near the sign's beginning, she being at the end).

Didn't Alec Guinness convince Lucas to kill off Obi-Wan because he couldn't stand the dialogue? I remember reading that SOMEWHERE...
I heard the exact opposite- that Guinness was so upset that the script was changed and his character was being killed off that he nearly quit the film. Lucas had to talk him down and explain the reasons that Ben's death would benefit the film, and he finally convinced Guinness to go on.
This is what that awesome Making of Star Wars released recently said.
I don't think Ben ever planned to leave the Death Star. It became a kind of suicide mission once he realized what was happening and that Vader was there, and felt confident enough that Luke would carry on in his place. He figured he'd complete his task of disabling the tractor beam and distracting Vader & the stormtroopers so that the gang could escape.

Also something to consider to make the best set of all three movies, I noticed a difference in sharpness when I was playing with the GOUT a long time ago. I think The NTSC version of Star Wars is better than the PAL version and the PAL versions of Empire and Jedi are better than the NTSC version (it could also be the other way around). Anyway, you probably want Star Wars from one region and Empire and Jedi from the other region (ofcourse turn whatever PAL version used into NTSC and use Belbucus audio).

So let's name it the Kathleen Turner All-Stars. Some other good examples with help from the Mailbag Committee: Kirstie Alley; Susan Sarandon; Phyllis George; Belinda Carlisle; Carrie Fisher; Charlene Tilton; Mary Tyler Moore; Tyra Banks; Marianne Faithfull; Melanie Griffith; Delta Burke; Deborah Norville; Teri Garr; Cher; Brenda Vaccaro; Angie Dickinson; Brigitte Nielsen; Valerie Bertinelli; Lindsay Lohan (the youngest example ever); Ann Wilson; Elizabeth Taylor; Ann-Margret; Debbie Harry; Whitney Houston; and, of course, Jim Lampley.

My first impression of Ric Olie when I was 12 was that he was the most stunning-looking male I'd ever seen, and I still remember how I felt when I watch SW, and he always makes the "top 3 sexiest/prettiest/handsomest devils from Naboo" lists, either.
Fixed. :)
It's just too bad he always comes in behind Panaka.

I always think she bears a striking resemblance to young Carrie Fisher.
I realize I'm biased, but the resemblance is minimal.
In my eyes - you'd be hard-pressed to find a woman as breathtakingly beautiful as Carrie Fisher was when she was young.
Is "funhouse mirror version of Carrie Fisher" a better comparison?
Or maybe this: She looks like how one might imagine old Carrie Fisher when she was young (assuming one did not know or have access to lovely pictures of the lady such as you posted.)
And why are you biased? Are you secretly Carrie Fisher's dad or something?
FWIW, "Evil Dead 2" will be aired on TCM on 10/09 at 2:15am (so, it's actually 10/10?) :-P
I love it- I hear it every once in a while on the oldies station here.
I love the fact that it's a medley & combines some of the best parts of the soundtrack in one track. I love the transitional bit that comes right before the cantina band segment.
Don't forget one of my favorites- Kenny Dantley. ;-)
I forgot to say it last year, but I remembered this year, so happy 58th birthday Mark (if you happen to be reading this but I'm sure you're not). :-P

@ Mielr,
So what do you think of v2's? you happy with ESB and do you like the layer-break position on these better? also do you like the position of the subs on v2 better than v1? I like the position better,I wish I would have done that from the start.
Thanks
I didn't have a chance to sit down and watch them all the way through yet, but I did pop them in to check the new subtitles and layer-breaks. The new layer breaks are better, I think, especially on ESB and ROTJ. I think the subtitles are fine either way- both are preferable to the horrid player-generated subs on the GOUT. BTW- I neglected to mention earlier how great the various soundtracks are! I know you were attempting to add the '85 stereo mix to ESB- did that work out or is it the same stereo mix that was on V1?
TV's Frink said:
I'm wondering if anyone has done something similar but with 5.1
dark_jedi did anamorphic versions of the GOUT using G-force's stabilization script, and an anti-aliasing script. He also added 5.1 mixes to all three (which I think were hybrid mixes done by hairy_hen?**) The 3 films also have 2.0 mixes, and SW has the mono mix as well:
