Star Wars coming to Blu Ray (UPDATE: August 30 2011, No! NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!)
Time

I'm not going to criticize anyone who buys the blu-ray set, but before anyone criticizes those who are boycotting these discs or passing out stickers or flyers, let's remember where we are for a second: a site that got its start with a petition asking for George Lucas to release the OOT on DVD. That happened- sort of, but it's 2011 and we STILL don't have an official remastered, anamorphic OOT on DVD or Blu-Ray.

If that isn't a reason to boycott a video release, I don't know what is.

I'm actually leaning towards buying the set. Not because I'm excited, but rather out of pure curiosity.

If it's just out of curiosity, why don't you rent it first?

Tonight Jimmy Kimmel, during his monologue, mentioned the Blu-rays coming out tomorrow, and cited some fan discontent. He spoofed the Vader scene in ROTJ by showing a clip with his voice dubbed to be one which sounds like an angry black woman. Not really funny, but still nice to see the pub regarding ridiculous/unnecessary changes.  Before he showed the clip, he mentioned that rocks were added in a scene with R2. "I can just see him sitting in his office thinking 'that scene needed more rocks!'."

I saw that too! :-P The woman's voice was saying something like "OH NO YOU DIT'ENT!!!" as Vader throws the emperor over the railing.

Seriously, do we care what the people at TFN think of us?! LOL! Those people are beyond delusional- they have ZERO credibility so I hardly think they're in a position to judge us.

That someone dares to like the PT or the SE is delusional? I someone with less discenring tastes about color-seperation really crazy? Does liking the dug in Jabba's palace really cost someone their credibility?

Wow! Did I say "That someone dares to like the PT or the SE is delusional"? Strange...I don't remember typing that. I don't remember saying anyone was "crazy" either........

I guess SOMEONE must be having delusions!

Mrebo expressed my feelings accurately, so I won't bother, but I would have thought by now you'd be aware that OT.com is generally tolerant of ALL types of fans, if they believe the OOT should be properly restored and released (the original mission of this site). FYI, tolerance of such a broad spectrum of fandom does NOT exist on TFN.

I frequent the HTF boards and the majority of SW fans there are sympathetic to our cause, more so now with new round of blu-ray alterations. Harmy popped in there the other day, and people were saying stuff like "I feel like I should get his autograph" and "wow! I didn't know he was a member here!"

HTF is a very respected forum, so I'm much more interested in what THEY think of us. Plus, George Lucas is the one who gives us credibility. ;-)

Guys, we did great bringing the box set down to two stars on Amazon, but the box set of only the OT is still rather high.  Could we focus on bringing that down too?  People who hate the prequels and (think) they like the OT might assume the whole box is so low because of the prequels, and thus only buy the OT and still get the crap.

I just tried to write a review for the OT blu-ray set and they told me I couldn't because I had already written a review (which was for the '04 DVD boxed set-LOL!!!) They really have to do something about that.

Anyway, I "edited" my review so now it's for the blu-rays instead.

Anyone still watch the LD releases?

No I'm talking about getting rid of your ENTIRE LD collection, for simply getting the gout. There's still versions of movies, and shit you can't get on dvd or blu ray, no way I'd do that. (I'd get both the gout and keep the LD's if it were me.)

I don't really have an "entire" LD collection- LOL! Almost everything I have is (or soon will be) on DVD and/or blu-ray.

Aside from my various SW LDs, I only own Back To The Future, Blade Runner and Metropolis (Moroder version) on LD.

Getting rid of your LD's because of the gout? Most illogical [/spock]

Not at all- it's true the LDs SOUND better (but dark_jedi has put the LD's PCM tracks on his GOUT versions).

The LDs look terrible to me compared to the GOUT. I thought at first it was my player (although my model was supposed to be one of the better ones for PQ), but when I saw the examples in the X0 project thread showing that the LDs looked inferior even on THAT machine, I think nearly everyone pretty much admits now that the GOUT is a better representation (at least visually) of the OT than the LDs.

Plus, the SW Gout disc has the original crawl. :-)

If you are a fan of the OT and love deleted scenes and special features then this set is for you.
Don't say that! Now I want them! But I'm only going to buy them used!

There's no need to buy the whole set...SilverWook already ordered just the bonus discs from ebay, and I may do the same.

Never had a lasedisc player, but for anyone who has the Star Wars LD Set  and the GOUT, which version would you say is better on an HDTV?

The GOUT looks far better to me than any of the LDs- especially on HDTV. That's why I'm getting rid of my LDs and player.

This is good LD reference site, I bought my Pioneer cld-d703 based on his recommendation (in the FAQ section):

I know you're joking, but, geez, isn't it the exact opposite?  Keeping the films as they are and just cleaning them is a lot simpler than recomping everything and "fixing" shit.  So, really, I'm comparatively easy to please.

True, but that's not the title of this thread! (it would be toooo long, anyway) ;-P
