Mark looks great in that shirt doesn't he?

The top photo was in "The Star Wars Scrapbook: The Essential Collection" by Sansweet. The bottom pic I've seen before on various MH tribute sites. Great pics.

So, I wonder how many of these BD sets have sold now? I wonder if the sales have dropped significantly since the first week of release.

When I was going through the flyers in this Sunday's newspaper, I didn't see one single ad for the set- not in Target, Wal-Mart, Best Buy, etc. You'd think they'd still be pushing it since it's only been out a couple of weeks.

Too lazy to do the math myself - not too lazy to dig up a few sources for the amount of dough LFL raked in so far:

deadline.com: <a href="http://www.deadline.com/2011/09/star-wars-complete-saga-on-blu-ray-breaks-global-sales-records/" target="_blank" title="deadline.com: ‘Star Wars: The Complete Saga’ On Blu-Ray Breaks Worldwide Sales Records">‘Star Wars: The Complete Saga’ On Blu-Ray Breaks Worldwide Sales Records</a>

movies.com: <a href="http://www.movies.com/movie-news/39star-wars39-blu-ray-sales-breaks-records-globally-despite-fan-outcry/4639" target="_blank" title="movies.com: 'Star Wars' Blu-ray Sales Breaks Records Globally Despite Fan Outcry">'Star Wars' Blu-ray Sales Breaks Records Globally Despite Fan Outcry</a>

movies.yahoo.com: <a href="http://movies.yahoo.com/blogs/the-projector/boycott-star-wars-blu-rays-worked-oh-wait-193019509.html" target="_blank" title="movies.yahoo.com: Your Boycott of the ‘Star Wars’ Blu-Rays Worked! Oh, Wait, No, It Didn’t at All">Your Boycott of the ‘Star Wars’ Blu-Rays Worked! Oh, Wait, No, It Didn’t at All</a>

I know that the BD sets sold very well the first week, I'm just wondering if they're still selling well or if the sales have dropped off significantly. The sales could actually end up being disappointing if the fanboys all bought it the first week, but if the more casual fans heard the internet chatter and decided not to buy, when they normally would have bought it a few weeks or months after the release.

Oh, wait, is this the KenKraly thread? ;-)

I agree with much of his assessment of the film itself- it may be the "weakest" of the original 3, but still a very exciting and entertaining film.

Why am I not at all surprised??

Great work from everyone involved in getting this information out. Anything involved with copyright and archives can be a major pain to get through all the red tape.

Tech IB prints aren't like a regular print. They essentially have been finished photochemically so there's nothing that you can do with them after that besides screen the print or digitally scan it. They were made to last...and look brilliant. If scanned correctly, I don't think there's much to be done afterwards. Correct me if I'm wrong here.

As I understand it, Technicolor IB prints aren't like regular prints because they are NOT photochemical in nature. They are essentially made like lithographs, with multiple passes of dye supplying the various colors. That's why the colors don't fade like photochemical (e.g. - Kodak) prints, and why the blacks in Tech prints are known for being so inky black, and the colors so vibrant.

http://www.widescreenmuseum.com/oldcolor/technicolor1.htm

The problem is that because of this process, the prints are very "dense" with ink, making duplicating difficult.

The best prints for duplication I guess then are regular old Kodak/Eastmancolor prints, but those will all have color fading by this time. But, as Robert Harris and others have said, most color fading of 70's era prints can be corrected.

Remember- there ARE prints of all 3 films in private collections. As Bill Hunt said, someday, someone WILL find a way to transfer them properly, color-correct them and release them to the public.

I know it's discouraging, believe me, I feel sick over this too, but we can't give up!

BTW-who's Mike Verta?

Funny story-

I was at dinner last night with my family (it was my Birthday) and my Sister asked why I hadn't asked for the new Star Wars Blu-Ray set as a present (I guess she'd seen ads on TV). My Niece immediately said "DON'T BUY THOSE! I HEAR THEY'RE TERRIBLE- PEOPLE ARE BOYCOTTING THEM!" I told her I wasn't buying them and that I'd actually made a blu-ray- boycott page on facebook.

I asked my Niece where she heard about the boycotting and she said "probably your facebook page!" :-P

You know what's scary? George Lucas considered putting Young Han Solo in Episode III so seriously that he was featured in a draft of the script! And they did concept art!

WTF!! Somehow the retardedness of it all just dawned on me. What the hell went through his head? It says a lot about how Lucas thinks these days.

He put a spaceship in Indy IV, so hey, why not? :-P

Argh! I've always thought that I saw the extended Biggs scene and <a href="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vRTqeqitT2M">this</a> is exactly as I remember it. Somehow, I think I've seen this seen before, complete with the additional dialogue. I'd hate to think that I'm suffering from a grappling hook-esque syndrome... :-(

I don't get that- it's got the person walking past the camera like in the SE, but it's also got Red Leader talking about Luke's father (which I have also seen somewhere before) which they edited from the SE. So, the guy walking past the camera was always there? I just thought they added it in '97 to hide the edit.

And what's with the awkward insert shot with the fake 3p0 voice?

G4 posts 'Attack of teh Show' online a week after broadcast, so sometime next week, the review will be on their site. Gore says GL is fan friendly because he allows the fan film thing to happen. (the fan film contest, etc) Gore then goes on to say that GL is basically no different then the fan editors at this point. Both sides playing in the same sandbox.

He said something else like fans are "arrogant" to tell Lucas what he can do with his films since he allows them to use his material to make fanfilms or whatever.

I mean, by that logic- I have never taken advantage of the "fanfilm" materials, so does that make me NOT arrogant to ask for the OOT? It's really ridiculous reasoning, and the guy seemed a bit flustered trying to come up with coherent justifications.

I watched Chris Gore's review on Attack Of The Show.

(you may want to do some deep breathing exercises and/or take a blood pressure pill before you read any further...)

He said George Lucas is "FAN FRIENDLY"!! 8-O Apparently, because he "encourages fan-edits" etc. I can't find a video of the review to post, but if anyone can find it, it's a HOWLER!

^^My cat can't stop laughing, in fact! :-D
