I'm no expert DE, but if I remember correctly I think Zion said that it was because an LD player comparable to the NTSC X0 for PAL was just not available.

Isn't it also true that a LD set equivalent in quality to the NTSC "Definitive" or "Faces" sets, was never released in the PAL format?

You're welcome! I sent duplicates of my emails out to the Lucasfilm people, but I still haven't received a response. I got an email from Leonard Maltin, but it wasn't very encouraging.

I have an idea- how about if we pick one place to send an email out to every week- we can start a thread for it, and ask everyone here that week to send their email to that particular place. Everyone can confirm in the thread that they've sent their email, and even paste the text of their email into the thread (if they wish). Next week, same thing only a different place. That way, we can be sure that the emails will all be going to the same place that week, and it will have more impact that way.

I worried that we may be falling into that "all talk-no action" trap here- it doesn't do any good to just complain to each other. I agree that need to get organized.

I definitely agree. It's ridiculous- how many other films have been released this many times- and still not given a proper DVD release. I personally have owned 8 different sets of the trilogy over the years.

The "original crawl" on the new DVD is NOT the original crawl! Screenshot inside!

I see those frames come from a 35mm scope (anamorphic) print. Seeing those might be an education for those on TF.net, etc. who say things like: "Why are you complaining about these DVDs being non-anamorphic? Star Wars wasn't anamorphic in the theaters in 1977" LOL!

I think we need to see the SE LD crawl to know more.

I have the SE LDs- I don't know if there's any way for me to put captures up, though.

I never got the impression that they were going to be the "theatrical" versions, just the pre-SE versions like any of the other home-video versions that have been released.

Quite frankly, they could have left the 'episode IV- a new hope' in the crawl and I wouldn't have cared. I've never seen the film without that in the crawl (aside from a bootleg version that a friend of mine had in '77 or '78), so that's the version I'm most familiar with. But, I know that for the people who DID see it in the theater in '77, it may be nostalgic to see the crawl without it.

Ok, straight up... is this the last time we will ever see the OOT?

I really think of SW, ESB and Jedi as one film, divided into 3 parts. Maybe Jedi isn't as strong a film as the other 2, but I loved it when I saw it in the theater in '83 and I still do. There are so many parts of it that are so wonderful- Jabba's palace, the Rancor, Yoda's death scene, Threepio's 'bedtime story', the Luke and Leia bridge scene, the speederbike chase, the death star attack, the duel, the funeral pyre scene with the fireworks- all of those things make up for any weaknesses the film has. (IMO)
