.: The XØ Project - Laserdisc on Steroids :. (SEE FIRST POST FOR UPDATES) (* unfinished project *)

Unfortunately, the DVD producers, like the TV manufacturers, know that people aren't going to adjust their sets, appropriately or otherwise, for the "best" possible picture. This is why new televisions are set with brightness so high as to cut the average tube life in half (and also to make the sets stand out in a showroom.)

It's also why NTSC is called "Never Twice the Same Color"....or variations thereof.

Idea: Sifo Dyas removal from AOTC?

But Yoda, Mace and (IIRC) Jango don't even mention the name. I think Obi-wan is the only one who mentions it, so that's the only part you really have to work on. Maybe someone could dub in "A Jedi" (for example) over "Sifo-Dyas". This way, it can later be linked to Dooku.

(I could be wrong about Obi-wan being the only one to state it, other than the Kaminoans. It's early, and I'm tired. )

SIX fantastic brand new preservation projects..... (Released)
Time
The only soundtracks I've listened to side-by-side are the Faces and Def. Col. ANH. This was back when I was deciding which version to use for my first transfer. I've not even played the P&S ESB LD. (<---say that 3 times fast.)

Since it's the only other version I have, I really couldn't tell you. At some point, I can capture it and compare it to the Faces and Def. Col., but someone will have to send me the others. (BTW, I did it by putting both soundtracks in Vegas, and routing each to the left or right headphones. A very interesting exercise.)

I haven't even listened to the entirety of the original mono that Neil S. Buik sent me.

"And, as you should have noticed, I was making a comparison. What the fuck is wrong with that? I praise Kubrick for making nearly every element of 2001 ambiguous. That is the sign of a master filmmaker. I posed my libne about Kubrick as a question to you, of how you feel about him, not as a statement of my own personal feelings. What on earth gave you the idea that I have anything against Kubrick?"

You really, really need to work on your reading comprehension. Your comparison was based on two completely different films. 2001 was supposed to be ambiguous - the aliens are completely unlike us, with motivations that may have little or no semblance to human motivations, whereas SW is a fantasy drama, with human emotions and character interactions that could take place in this galaxy, current day. The fact that it shares so many scenes and scenarios with "Hidden Fortress" isn't a coincidence.

Not to mention the fact that I've never heard Kurbrick make the same claim as Lucas, so again, your comparison is sorely lacking.

"I think you were a little too quick to jump to conclusions there, buddy."

Says the guys who asked me if Kubrick failed. It's a poor question, because how you framed your question is faulty. Whatever "fault" you think I committed is but a fraction of yours.

"Dooku ordered the clones....as Syfo Dyas....Listen the the SIth commentary...Lucas says so himself!!"

The novelization says otherwise.

"Oh. Just cause of that, you don't understand the movie?!? It's really hard to believe, especially from the one who tells he has understood 2001..."

Talk about poor conclusions. Point out to me where I said I didn't understand the film. It is Adam who said the novelization helped him understand the film, so your mischaracterization applies to him, not I. As I clearly stated, "I, like Lucas, have dropped it as unimportant." Perhaps your monitor is set at too high a resolution to read that?

"its a lame redherring which utlilizes a character we've never seen or heard of before, and is so vague that there isn't even agreement within Lucas' own people whether it was Dooku or sidious who ordered the clones."

Thank you.

"the LOA explanation is lame and doesn;'t make a lick of sense under scrutiny. It presupposes that sifodyas with good intentions and no cohersing ordered the clones, to be used for good. so what was sidious' grand plan then? if this random event had not happened how would he have formed the empire and wiped out the jedi? the entire galactic war erupts because of a random jedi we never saw who died before TPM? thats lame
and contrary to what was the plan up until LOA was published."

Thank you again. [Han] "That's two you owe me" [/Han]

"she's just one of many weird looking extras in the film."

But she was also supposed to be used in AOTC, hence the cameo. More dropped concepts.

Who's gonna read "Dark Lord: The Rise of Darth Vader?"

LOL

"Why on earth do you hate the PT that bad? They're just movies. None of this happened. It is all an excellent, excellent story."

Why on earth do you hate the OT effects that bad? They're just movies. None of this happened. It is all an excellent, excellent story.

Oh yeah...you keep harping on continuity - the very thing that Lucas changed for people older than you. I guess the "excellent, excellent story" just isn't good enough to keep you from getting hung up on the effects as well.

"So, you are left guessing if it was really Sifo-Dias, whether Dooku/Palpatine forced Sifo-Dias to do it before they killed him, etc."

If the book has to be read to understand the movie, then Lucas failed. Lucas has called himself a "visual storyteller", so it's preposterous to think that he left this little nugget in for the fans who read.

"Lucas decided not to include it in ROTS, in order to focus more on Anakin's story"

Rather than being part of this carefully constructed plot to get SW fans to read EU, as you appear to imply, what it really is is something that could have been made into an important plot point, but was utlimately dropped like a fart in the wind so that we could get a few more minutes footage of a burning ship crashing into Coruscant.

You have apparently been made to be left guessing, but I, like Lucas, have dropped it as unimportant. And as for the EU explanation: a Jedi Master really initiated the order, without the Council's or Senate's knowledge, yet giving his true identity to the Kaminoans, and somehow coming up with the tremendous amount of funding to start the order, all in the hopes that the Republic would readily accept an unsanctioned army when they are not at war?

Puhleeeeeeeeez! I like the EU, but this is just flat-out ridiculous.

Then again, that does sound like a contrived scenario that Lucas would come up with......

Authoring DL DVD's?
Time
Why don't you think it was set properly? Keep in mind that stand-alone compatibility with DL-writeable media isn't the greatest. What media are you using, and what player are you testing it on? Also, what burner are you using? You might want to see if there's a bit-setting patch, so your +R media reads as -R to your player.

Firewire video capture on a MAC
Time
Okay, my friend has a MAC, and wants to start mastering his own videos. Being a PC person, there are some questions I have, because his computer isn't doing a good job of it.

First of all, I forgot to write down the specific model, but his has a Large screen with USB anf Firewire ports lined up behind the screen on the right-hand side. Hopefully, this helps.

The details that I did remember to get are:

iMAC
OS X
PowerPC G5(3.0)
CPU 1.8 Ghz
Mem 256 MB
Bus Speed 600MHz
HD ST380013AS (74 GB)
Matshita DVD-R UJ-825

When capturing video through Firewire with iMovie, I can get it started, but the video is obviously skipping. It won't capture more than 20 seconds before stopping on it's own. It's also segmenting clips in the middle of a clip, which tells me that some skips are so large that the timebase function thinks a new clip has started.

Does the hardware of this computer have the necessary horsepower for decent capture? Is there anyway I can prioritize CPU processing for the iMovie program (diverting more resources to it.) Is there a setting to improve disc access? I've told him to bump up his RAM for video editing and such, but I don't know if more memory alone would help with the capture process.
