How many pixels to crop in order to fill a 16:9 screen?
Time
The widescreen tv will be 1.78:1, and Star Wars will be 2:35:1. Two differently sized rectangles. You can't "get rid" of the black bars, because filling it video information would mean the people onscreen will be taller than normal. It would be like watching Star Wars in a funhouse mirror that makes you look skinner. Sure, your head and feet will be at the very top and bottom, but it'll look ridiculous.

Well, sometimes it's hard to tell what was caused by what, but I've removed much of the yellowed splice tape between scenes (at least every two to three scenes, but usually on the bottom.) Most are easy cut&paste, but there are some occasionally toughies that have to be replaced bit by bit - usually due to rapid movement. There are also occasional lines of pixelation, which I assume were caused at some point during the transfer to LD. Some are sporadic, while at other times it can be rolling through many frames. The scene where Artoo is in the canyon prior to being captured was probably one of the worst.

I don't recall the video moving around more than a few pixels. That being said, I've usually been more focused on what's in the frame. I recall looking over the video I had fixed up to that point, and seeing lots of white squigglies in the black letterboxing that I'd completely missed because I had the image zoomed in, cutting out most of those sections.

I would certainly like to get rid of the movement, and put new black mattes over the letterboxing.

No offense taken. I know you guys have been waiting a long time. To be honest, it's been difficult making myself go back to ANH and cleaning it frame by frame. It's definitely something I want to do, but with everything else going on, it's hard to find the daily motivation. It is tedious, almost mindnumbing work.

I'll be on vacation next month, so it'll be a little easier to stay up late and work on it.

There's more money to be made in DVD sales, especially with multiple versions. There's been plenty of movies that failed theatrically, only to have a second, more profitable life in home video sales.

For many films, the theatrical release is more of an advertisement for the eventual DVD. WOW them in the theater, so they'll spend more money on it later. Why watch it once, when you can own it forever.

How much longer will the format war last?
Time
So were uncompressed PCM, full bitrate Dolby Digital, and full bitrate DTS. A laserdisc's two-channel PCM Dolby Pro Logic mix put through a modern Dolby Pro Logic IIx decoder actually sounds better than most of the Dolby Digital tracks I've heard on DVD. And Saving Private Ryan DTS on LD...WOW.

And since the video was uncompressed, LD fast-forward and rewind still kick DVD's ass. So much smoother and incremental.

But yeah, other than all those things, LDs sucked.

Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles Thread

MAYBE WHEN SARAH BLEW IT UP THE HEAD STILL HAD FLESH ON IT, BUT WHEN IT FLEW OUT OF THE TIME SPHERE THE FLESH WAS VAPORIZED BY THE HEAT?
That's what I'm thinking as well.

Why are we as audience shown this little message when she could turn out to be a villain...?

Well, it could be foreshadowing, or a red herring.

She DID talk about the factory where she was made, and we now know that a terminator placed machinery there to survive the holocaust. However, was she made by the machines.....or was she made by John himself?

Blu-ray Disc or HD-DVD?

LOL...nice one, ADM.

As to updating, I think I've seen some mention of upping 1.0 to 1.1, but I wouldn't put money on it. As to 2.0, you might be able to find a firmware update for some players, but for the most part, I think you're out of luck.

I guess we can all just wait until profile 3 comes out, or 4, or 5...gotta love these unfinished products....LOL
