Hi Everyone - Assistance Required

" Thank you MeBeJedi.....I shall investigate that one."

Oops, sorry ....I just made up that name as an example. What I meant was that there are many good entry-level programs that can accomplish quite a bit. I got started with the basic DVD program that came with my burner. It worked well, but due to its limitations (you had to upgrade for the ability to have an introductory video before the main menu, it would only create MPEG audio, no end commands), I found myself looking for more advanced programs.

" I've actually already been to a Radio Shack and the stereo jack they pointed me to will not work. I know the out side will not fit into the blue input on the card. And I don't think my sound card has a sound input and I certainly don't have a direct connection to the motherboard. Would it be possible to provide a picture of what I need? MBJ, what version of Vegas do you have because the captured video came out all garbled when I imported it to Vegas 4. "

You need to take a picture of the whole back side of your computer. Methinks you are using the blue connector of the videocard for the audio, and that's not what it's for. Look where your speakers are plugged into. There should be (at least one more) similar jack somewhere next to it. THAT'S your audio in.

As to the video capture, what codec did you use? (I guess I should read through this whole thread. )

"Overlay would show a black screen at a higher resolution and Preview shows a still frame in either instance."

IIRC (It's been awhile since I captured video), I was unable to preview audio while I was capturing, but it would capture nonetheless. Don't worry too much about the preview (if you can get audio to work, you can use that to gauge.) Go ahead and start capturing the video prior to the event that you want, and let the capture run past the part you want to stop. You can always edit out the extra stuff in Vegas later.

Nero "Illegal Disc" error
Time
Are you trying to burn a standard audio CD with these files? There's two ways of going at this:

1. Have Nero convert mp3's/WMV's to PCM audio on the fly, creating a regular audio CD
2. Create an MP3/WMV audio cd, which will only play on newer players capable of reading an MP3/WMV CD.

As to number 1, you might want to try converting the MP3's/MV's to WAV before burning to CD. The fewer things you try to do at once, the fewer things can go wrong.

You have 2 S-video jacks, and three component video jacks. Most likely, one of the S-video jacks is a video-out. You may have to look at the manual to find out which one.

Most likely, you will have to use the S-video (unless your source has component.) As for the audio, you will need to get a converter cable to go from RCA to mini-din (like stereo headphones.) This will cost about 2 bucks at Radioshack. You will have to capture the audio with your soundcard concurrently with the video. It's not impossible to capture audio and video together, but it can be tricky to set up depending on the software you are using. I usually have trouble keeping sync when I do this, so I capture audio and video through my camcorder first using firewire, and then do a separate video capture through my capture card. I can then line these streams up in Vegas, and delete the camcorder video (The DV codec isn't quite as good as the Huffy codec.)

Possible original Star Wars screening?
Time
http://www.oscars.org/events/g2b_nominated_4/images/title_star_wars.gif

30th anniversary screening! Writer-director George Lucas’s space fantasy, combining the excitement of classic Hollywood adventure with groundbreaking visual effects, spawned two sequels and three prequels, and helped change the way movies are made; 30 years later, it is still the second-highest grossing film of all time at the U.S. box office. The film received a Special Achievement Award for Ben Burtt Jr.’s creation of the alien, creature and robot voices as well as ten nominations overall

Too bad this won't be the version shown.

I contacted them recently to see if they have any plans to screen this again for the 30th anniversary and i was told that they had got into a lot of trouble showing this version and it was recalled immediately after. When our old main cinema was closed down and demolished they found a copy of the print in the vaults which they shouldn't have had. So it looks like lucasfilm really doesn't want the original ever to be shown again.

That's the third example I've heard of. Fucking LFL.

LOL...I have to say that, when I tried re-reading SOTME about a year ago, I was getting a bit nauseated with the "Luke thinking about Leia" stuff. This isn't to say I'm a queasy person...I just found that I couldn't just "read" the book in spite of those things, and I've no doubt it would get worse. After the slapping scene and Luke and Leia meet the old woman, I just put the book down and haven't picked it back up. Maybe someday.

Interesting.

As to the Star Wars origins website....

http://www.spookybug.com/origins/pix2/maul.jpg

In Lucas' defense (can ya believe it, Cass?), I was under the impression that Lucas asked an artist to come up with the most nightmarish face imaginable. When that turned out to be too scary, there was a second draft, which later became Maul. It's probably in the Making Of book, but I'm too lazy to walk to my office and look it up.

Nonetheless, that's an awesome saying.

"there is a bit of trivia that says that Threepio has a line in the book where he states that Darth Vader knows all the code words and commands to shut him down."

I'll have to reread that to get more information, but keep in mind that he is just a protocal droid. After all, Leia knew exactly where his shut-off switch was in ESB. This does not mean she built him.
