Anyone use Adobe Premiere Pro?
Time
I'm bumping my main computer from 512 to 1Gb soon (and my second computer from 256 to 768)

"I'm not using AVIs, I'm using MPGs from the vob files. In retrospect, I probably should just use AVIs but I don't want to lose any quality and don't want to spend all that time converting."

If you are just cutting footage, it's not a problem. If you are trying to combine scenes of different sources (DVD and LD footage) or digitally add/remove stuff, then you really should go to AVI. At that point, hard drive space will become a major concern as well.

"It only affects a small portion of their PROFIT margin"

Speaking of which, how much do you sell your DVD sets for on Ebay...

"Someone had to upload it first in order for it to be downloaded at all."

If someone left their house or car unlocked, does that make it okay for you to enter it?

Just because someone gives you the opportunity to break a law, doesn't mean you have the legal or moral standing to do so. Personal responsibility does come into play here.

"so is weed legal in some countries? yes. does that mean i can go buy it there and bring it back to the US for my personal use? no, because it then violate US laws. same for downloading files. does sweden have laws in place to protect US copyrights (apparently not) but does that mean its legal for someone in the US to download the file? nope"

Agreed.

I don't fool myself into thinking that putting these LD transfers to DVD, or downloading the ROTS workprint, is legal in any way, shape or form. It isn't even an issue, as far as I am concerned. It's something that I am going to do regardless, for many good personal reasons, none of which have a chance of hell of standing up in court. I've come to grips with this, but those of you soothing yourselves by coming up with reasons to validate your own individual acts of theft are just shouting at the wind. It changes nothing.

Thought on de-SE'ing the DVD
Time
Why don't you get the surrounds from the AC3 soundtrack of one of the foreign releases (which *didn't* have this particular "creative decision" )

Any foreigners around here who can rip the Dolby Digital soundtrack from their DVDs.

Obi: "I imitated the hunting cry of a krayt dragon, their imaginations did the rest and they took to their heels."

To-dah my useless vast knowledge of Star Wars trivia is correct!

LOL...I'm liking this guy already (though there was no doubt in my mind that this was the sound Obi-wan was imitating.)

This guy REALLY hates the prequels
Time
The fact that he linked to Supershadow shows how clueless he really is. It's a case of one idiot getting his information from another idiot. LOL!

" Two words: Jim Henson. Next to Ford, Henson's astonishing Creature Shop gave the first movies brilliantly wacky life, silly and tangible and honest. The last three flicks are just painful reminders of how much he, and his entire Muppet universe, are missed in this world, and how much computers have drained many movies of their soul."

Okay, he scores a point with that one.

"Raise your hand if you love the concept of prequels. Ten years of crappy CGI and 10 years of lumpy stiff acting and 28 years of waiting and you watch "Sith" where only the last 30 minutes really finds any sort of cinematic footing."

LOL...true.

Well, at least he sees that the OT is vastly superior to the PT.

"Tell me, other than eBay, where can I legally purchase the OOT? "

It isn't where you buy it, or who from - but in what form you buy it. It has to be on the original medium. Some video duplicating shops will make a DVD copy of the Star Wars films for you if you own the original laserdiscs or VHS. (much as many VHS-to-DVD shops will add a music soundtrack to your home movie, so long as you provide the CDs.)

Anyways, I'm not trying to make a judgement for or against this practice. I'm just telling you what I know. Interestingly enough, my LDs do not have an FBI warning, nor is macrovision compatible with the video signal.

star wars dv avi tremble
Time
"No, I have to say after upping the contrast and downing the brightness there's almost no trembling left."

Sounds like it was definitely blooming then.

"probably when they captured the actual film they did it in realtime instead of using todays individual frame capturing/cleaning methods so the image didn't stay 100% in place going through the projector."

I'm not sure what method was used, but while there is a slight amount of movement, it sounds like Arnie was seeing a lot more than what is considered normal. The fact that lowering the brightness helped says a lot.

"if you encode the video to mpeg2 with in the wrong field order then any interlacing will stick out like a sore thumb,"

True, but it doesn't introduce more shaking.
