Could this possibly be changed to "There'll be no escape for the Captain this time", this is how the line appearded in earlier scripts and the novelization (and maybe the radio play), obviously this refers to Captain Antillies the droids master, it just makes much more sense and will probably be less jarring to hear than your abreviated version (not that I've heard it).
Keep up the good work, can't wait to see more progress.

I seem to remember reading that there was a line of dialouge not present on the First Contact DVD that was heard in the theatre, the line was from Kelsey Grammer as Captain Bateson of the USS Bozeman responding to Picard's order of attack, this was widely regarded as not being true until the line turned up in the HD version.

just a side note I really hate the complete lack of information regarding the films on any harry potter fan sites, all any of them seem to say is the details of the dvd, they don't even mention the extended versions, I may have to do something about that.

was the video file split in to 1GB chunks when you ripped it? if so when you put them together in womble it will be missing frames at each join, you'll need to re rip the video as one file, there is an option for file splitting in the dvd decrypter menu.
if it's already as one file then I have no idea.

I have no idea what that means but I'm sure you know best, I wouldn't have noticed anything about your sample without seeing them side-by-side so I think it's pretty good already and I trust you to get it right, I'm really looking forward to getting a copy of this.
just wondering, how big is the TS file? as I'd love to get a copy of that.

The Common room break in starts at scene 87, I think from reading it you can see why it was cut, they tried to make it a hero moment for harry, and includes crookshanks chasing scabbers out of the room. It could work if edited down a bit, I have been working on an extended version for a while now and I know how to bridge the gap left by these missing scenes but I haven't yet got the energy to create the new scenes from scratch, I think I'll wait and see if they do run an extended version and what is and isn't included.
I know that there is no reason to trust this script to be genuine, but I believe it is since it contains the deleted scenes and some other differences to what made it to the final film where as the other Harry Potter scripts on the site are just transcripts of the theatrical version of the film.

I agree, I'm sure they will release extended cuts since they shot loads of extra stuff for GOF and also apparently for OOTP (the director said he'd have to cut it down by at least 40 min to meet the required time), there is also a quote from the guy how plays Percy saying Chris Columbus intends to include the Peeves stuff in a "director's cut". Although I think the third film will be the least extended as it seems to be missing least where as GOF was obviously missing a lot.
I have never heard that they shot scenes with peeves for the third film, it's not in the version of the script that I have read which does include Sirius breaking into the common room, and the much needed explanation from Lupin that they made the map and why the patronus is a stag.
If they did do senes with peeves for the third film it definitely shows an intention to do extended cuts.

It should be an interesting watch.

there would be no need to remove anything that was in the theatrical version, the daylight attempt to get into the common room was failed but caused the fat lady to be replaced, and only latter did Sirius get into the common room using the list of passwords that Neville had lost, it is much the same in the book. In order to extend the film by more than about 2-3 min more scenes would need to be used that weren't on the dvd but a fair few more were scripted and may well have been shot, very rarely do all deleted scenes make it onto the dvd (e.g. the peeves scenes shot for the first film)

on the subject of Brian May a lot of his distinctive sound comes from the way his guitar is wired, he has his pickups set so they can be turned on and off independantly and set in and out of phase with each other which greatly effects the dynamic of the sound, it's not something many guitars are able to do, also the pickups are wired in series not in parallel as on most guitars, but it is very easy to re-wire a Strat' to get the same options and a similar sound.

On the subject of HD, I heard that Sony offered the BBC a free bunch of HD cameras specifically for Doctor Who, but the BBC turned them down. SFX costs would have been an issue, I'm sure, but it would have been nice.

My sources tell me the BBC has yet to actually broadcast Doctor Who in high def, so any anamorphic DVD (from broadcast) is artifical from the get go.

They were offered to late to be used on the first series, and for some reason weren't used on the second series, but series 3 and Torchwood are being shot in HD.

I always thought this might be not to bad of an idea as Luke always struck me a sort of a geeky teckie sort of guy that would get something like that right.
Also, another possible audio change that I had thought of is, when Obi-Wan refers to the force for the first time, Luke responce of "the force!?" always sounded a bit too much as though he had never heard of the force. That always struch me as a bit suprising. While, he certainly wouldn't know much about the force, the idea that he had never heard it mentioned before always seemed a little wrong to me.

I'm going to rant a little now, this really bugs me if Luke Skywalker says it's an R2 unit in the film, the primary source of 'canon', then I'm inclined to say it is an R2 unit and not an R5 just because the EU has decided it is, the EU should have been consistent with the films, the films should not be adapted to fit this later (pointless) naming scheme for astromechs, they didn't even follow the conventions in the prequels so why bother changing luke's line?
And surely it's concievable that luke hasn't heard of the force the jedi are dead and gone and his Uncle has been trying to shield him from Ben's influence, according to the prequels tatooine wasn't even part of the republic and Jedi weren't exactly common there.

Although it was shot on 35mm film in a 1:1.37 format it was always intended for cinema exhibition in a 1:1.85 format. A lot of films are shot in this way and later matted into widescreen (including the first two Harry Potter films but I don't think anyone would suggest they were intended to be shown in full screen)
If you look here there is quite a lot of discussion on the subject including some input from Joe Beirne the Producer of Naqoyqatsi, and the premiere of Koyaanisqatsi was presented in widescreen as intended by the director.
Again this is very cool and thanks for seeding, I do like to see open matte versions of films just for comparisons sake.

although it is true that Tolkien's books were consistent he did edit the Hobbit in later editions to fit in with Lord of the Rings, he only edited the chapter where Bilbo meets Gollum but all the versions in print today are the edited version, although you can find the revisions in Appendix A of ' The Annotated Hobbit'(1988), in it's edited form "It represents as closely as is possible Tolkien's final intended form"
So this isn't that different to what Lucas has done with Star Wars.

I've been reading this thread off and on since it started so forgive me if I've missed something but do we really need to see how Vader found out lukes name? I never had a problem with it happening off-screen, the ideas are good and I can see how Vader overhearing the radio could work quite well, but....
This seems to be straying into Lucas' prequel-style storytelling, answering questions that don't need answers, like how the droids became the property of captain antillies and how the emporers face came to look the way it did, these were just bad in ROTS and we didn't need to see them, and it's the kind of pointless storytelling I was hoping this edit was removing not adding.
No offence intended, I just don't see the point in this addition.
