Call of Duty 4 - Modern Warfare
Time
I played and finished the DS version if anyone cares.

It was a time waster plain and short: it wasn't bad, but it wasn't great either. It just seemed like for the most part of the time, you would walk, crouch, shoot enemies who for some reason always speak in English with terrible foreign accents, rince, repeat. Once you've beaten it there's no reason to go back. If you're looking for a war shooter for the DS, pick up Brothers in Arms. It might be a bit shorter, but it's much for fun that COD4.

The Criterion ESB cover is awesome.

Thanks! It's my favorite of the three.

And yeah, if anyone wants to dummy up a compatible X0 logo, go for it.

I personally preferred the ROJ cover myself, although the ESB is good! The New Hope cover doesn't do it for me. The composition is cramped and somewhat off putting, and the Tantive IV in the background is teeny tiny. Maybe you could use a shot of the two suns that Luke looks at? Like this one?

Move the suns above him so you get the vertical look. I dunno, maybe that would look weird.

Happy 25th Birthday, Compact Disc

Yeah, I hear ya. When I was 12 after getting those aforementioned CDs, I would lie on the floor and just stare at the cover art, read the lyrics and just listen to the whole album over and over.

Ah! The memories are all coming back: the CD player we had at home was actually my brother's. When he left home I had to quickly transfer my newly acquired CDs to cassette tape. Fast-forward a year and my step-dad bought us a CD player and each one of us had our own interchangeable multi-disk loaders.

Oh oh oh and my first diskman cost me like 128 bucks. No skip protection. That part was annoying.

For example, in the image with the Stormtroopers, the brightness of the sky and sand in the middle of the frame is overblown, and yet the leather pouches on the trooper's shoulder are completely dark. Does that mean the image of the canyon is darker than what was actually seen the the theater that day? Maybe, maybe not.

No, it's due to the fact that these pictures were taken off of a projection of the film. Anyone whose shot a film with a video camera (I've done a couple of personal 16mm transfers) will recognize this problem. It's just due to an imbalance of light from the projector bulb. The intensity of the light is hotter in the middle sections than around the edges. That's also not to mention the possibility of bad exposure and 30 year old color film.

Alien vs Predator 2!?

Alien & Aliens are they only ones I consider as canon in my mind. While I loved Dutton's character in Alien-cubed, and thought the notion of Ripley carrying a queen was brilliant, the ham-fisted disposal of the survivors of Aliens was the ultimate slap in the franchise's face. All that deep character development surrounding Ripley's attachment to Newt was pissed away in the opening credits. The fact that Sigourney went cueball was just the dingleberry on top of a shit sundae.

In my rose-colored world, Ridley Scott and James Cameron will team for "Aliens Return" wherein the third and fourth films will be written off as a bad hyper-sleep dream.

AND LET'S NOT FORGET RIPLEY'S TURN TO DRUGS IN THE TURD MOVIE. I MEAN THE THIRD MOVIE.

The only drugs she takes are the medications the doctor administrates to her to help her get over her "illness" She doesn't become a druggie.

Howard The Duck - special edition (Released)
Time
You know, I was just watching this movie, and I noticed a pretty big plot hole: Howard didn't have to destroy the laser.

If you recall, Dr. Jenning as the Dark Lord tells Bev that the dark lords cannot live on Earth unless they grow inside of a human body. That's why he kidnaps Bev in the first place. Soooo...all they had to do was just say, "Hey, let's grab a cup of Coffee, I think Jenning could really use one..." , walk away and the dark lords would die as soon as they touched ground. The laser would still be intact and Howard could go home.

Plus, those dark lords weren't all that powerful. The first one blew up within a few seconds of being shot. There were how many in the vortex, like 3 or 4? C'mon, just use your neutron disintegrator and blast them to pieces.

Oh and did I mention that this film ROCKS!

And if that conversion is any indication, we are indeed in for a treat!

BTW, any intention of re-adding or re-incorporating the missing shots? I'm guessing they could be taken from an LD source, matted to match, then sandwiched in? (Hmmm... something's telling me that might get a bit grainy...

Well anyway, TIA to DJ and his secret helper!

Wait...those shots were cut out?! Can anyone confirm this?

I am using a 450 G4 powermac from 1999, and the thing still runs great! DVD studio pro is a dog, and rendering takes forever, but email, internet, music, pictures, it all runs great.

I do understand people's concerns of needing certain software (although this is taken care of through a program called parallels) and/or the price of the mac hardware, but there are a lot of people who just want a computer to do simple things and have it do it steadily over the course of a few years and I think a mac does that for you.

Nanner split: have you tried Bits on wheels? I find that to be a good torrent program.

Fight Club - Book Edit - DISCUSSION
Time
I agree with your comments how the excellent film compliments the excellent book. However, I don't think you'll be able to do an edit that reflects the book. The problem is that there are crucial scenes and subplots that were changed for the film and never filmed. These include (WARNING! POSSIBLE SPOILERS!)

- How Jack meets Tyler: in the book, they meet on a nude beach. A definite departure from the hilarious airplane scene.

- The source of the fat for the soap: in the book they steal the fat from Marla's mother's liposuction.

- The ending: the ending in the book is very surreal in which the protagonist may or may not be in a mental institution.

END SPOILERS

So yeah, I'm sure you already know this and I am curious how you plan to go around this.
