Can someone help me with what seems like a NEWBIE issue
Time
I cannot figure out how to burn the files I downloaded off MySpleen. The files in question is the Star Wars and Empire Strikes Back DVD's, Classic Edition versions. Never before have I downloaded anything like this using BitComet (just some music files and things up to now) and after spending a few hours reading (actually 3.25 hours) and trying, I am stumped.

I've got a PC. On my system I have DVD Decryptor, which I normally use with DVD Shrink. The files I see for EMPIRE are as follows...

VTS_01_0.VOB 25mb (BitComet Incomplete Download File)
Video_TS.bup 14 kb
VTS_01_0.bup 96 kb
Video_TS.ifo 14 kb
VTS_01_0.ifo 96 kb
Video_TS 22 kb
VTS_01_1 1 gig
VTS_01_2 1 gig
VTS_01_3 1 gig
VTS_01_4 1 gig
VTS_01_5 253 mb

Please forgive me for being so ignoant, but I'm not a young whiper snapper like most of you guys and believe me, I searched my rear off before resorting to posting this cry for help.

Info Wanted: What preservation versions have Duel Layer and PCM? Will be making my own after seeing what works/doesn't work
Time
PCM is always preferable to AC3 when the original film was not DD5.1 to begin with. PCM is a far more robust sounding format and in the case the of the 2004 DVD's, every person I have blind tested prefers the laserdisc PCM mixes. However, to get good PQ I am willing to sacrifice. After all, I can just make my own version with PCN, right? In fact, I may do just that. They would all have to be duel layer, of course. PCM is a bit hog.

Info Wanted: What preservation versions have Duel Layer and PCM? Will be making my own after seeing what works/doesn't work

Hi gang. New here. Sorry. Some of you might know me at AVSforum and that I am starting a DUNE edit in HIGH DEF using Final Cut Pro.

Anway, I have been reading this forum for HOURS today! Still know jack it seems.

Are there Duel Layer edits with PCM sound out there? The PCM sound on the LD’s blows PCM converted to AC3 away. I know because I participated in my own personal Star Wars Trilogy DVD project.

The Classic Edition looks stupendous, but from what I have read is single layer only…? No mention of sound was ever made.

Having a 95inch screen (single layer stuff typically looks soft or compressed on a large screen), what version is going to blow me away the most? Please forgive me asking newbie stuff, but I cannot read for ten days before asking. I think four hours of reading here is enough.

My hope is to get really great version in Duel Layer and learn from them. Study how they were done and then once DUNE is done, go ahead and see if I can improve upon the Star Wars versions out there.

Thanks much. Feel free to PM or email me if you can help, offer to you know what, etc etc.

To the Creators/Faneditors who are creating DUAL-LAYER discs!
Time
Let me tell you guys, having a projector with a 95 inch screen makes it VERY clear that SIngle Layer jobs DO NOT cut the mustard. My own STAR WARS edit, done like two years ago, wwould be unwatchable at that size. I split the films over two DVD's each. The results were good and I will attempt a new version sometime soon, this time using the 2004 DVD's.

Duel Layer or nothing.

Idea & Info: a Dune Fan Edit thread...
Time
Hi gang, My first post here. SOme of you might know me from AVSforum. I will be working on a new edit for this film and it will be in HIGH DEFINITION. We have the theatrical version in glorious 2.35:1 1080i from HDNet Movies and it blows the DVD away. For the additions we will use the new DVD and likely the last two deleted scenes, all upconverted to 1080i.

All editing will be done in Final Cut Pro and the ultimate release will be available in 1080i and also as a duel layer DVD for those of you with no HD capabilities.

Currently we are in the research stage and will be in that stage for some time. Do not expect a finished product until at least year's end. We do not want to F this up.

I was going to attempt a STAR WARS Trilogy edit, but now that I have discovered this place maybe I do not need to? I've been reading here for HOURS and I still have no idea what version I should get.

I want Duel Layer and PCM sound. AC3 conversion loses far too much quality. That is why I used the PCM from the laserdiscs for my own personal Star Wras Trilogy DVD edit, using the CAV LD's sourced from a tweaked Pioneer CLD-97 and then converted to anamorphic. This was before DUel Layer, so I made them two diskers. COmpresing to a single layer would have been terrible.

Any advice?
