The Official 2006 Discs Will Be No Better Than What We Have!
Time
From everything I have read it would appear that they are using the old D2 master that was used for laserdisc. Now, the question is, do theyhave a D2 master BEFORE the horrendous noise reduction was added? If that is a yes, then the non-anamorphic transfers will not terribly bad, just kind of bad. There is a difference. Heavily noise reduced transfers are very very difficult to compress and can have motion trails and ghosting.

Eventually we will get clarification on all of this. So we wait.

Everyone needs to calm down. We don't know what will happen yet. The press release IS confusing. That's for sure. We will just have to wait until more information is released. Patience.

I never purchased the Star Wars DVD's, so I absolutely will buy these. No matter what they will look better than the laserdiscs or the fan releases we have come up with. The DD2.0 sound sucks, but I can always add the PCM tracks myself. You guys should know by now how much I prefer the PCM to shit DD2.0.

Anyone have problems dealing with "Fanfiltration" before?
Time
Psycho_Dayv, I got permission to post this topic here after repeated communication attempts with fanfiltration went unanswered. So far he is NOT a standup guy. I waited months for the DVD and when I got it and informed him it was missing the actual content it was supposed to have, he ignored me. I have sent him half a dozen PM's with no answer.

I had heard nothing but good things about Fanfiltration, but so far my experience has been terribly disappointing.

Look, I do not want to start trouble, but it goes like this.

One February 6 I sent Fanfiltration 2 blank DVD-R's for his DUNE edit, plus return shipping.

It took him a while, but I finally received them back a week and a half ago. Probelm is, there is no part 1. DVD 2 is fine, but DVD 1 has no movie on it. Just his WARNING not to sell. I ripped the DVD to my hard drive to be sure.

I've PM'd him twice and heard no response.

This is very rude, unless he has some kind of situation that prevents him from getting online.

Is this normal for him? I've sent out a dozen SUSPIRIA DVD's in the last two months and always sent them as quickly as humanly possible. I communicate a great deal as well, since I want people I deal with to be happy.

Very disappointed.

SUSPIRIA with original sountrack in PCM! Duel Layer (Released)
Time
Look, I do not want to come across as rude here and I am not, but you do not know what you are talking about when it comes to AC3 vs PCM.

And Argento's SUSPIRIA is famous for it's expertly mixed surround track. It has the best sound mix of any Argento film, by far. Great care was taken creating it. Anyone that cannot tell the difference between the PCM track and the scewed up remix is deaf.

Can you please keep the sound PCM and NOT converted to DD2.0 or 5.1? The PCM sound of laserdisc is infinitely superior in every way to a DD conversion.

I assume these DVD's will be Duel Layered? It is impossible to keep the quality high enough if you go single layer as too much compression and filtering would be applied. This is not even debateable.

My SUSPIRIA "Fixed Audio Edition" is Duel Layer with PCM and the 5.1 "remix" is included so you can switch back and forth and be astonished at how pathetic some DD5.1 remixes are compared to what was on the laserdiscs of the 80's and early 90's.

SUSPIRIA with original sountrack in PCM! Duel Layer (Released)
Time

I truly despise what Anchor Bay did with the soundtrack to SUSPIRIA. They took the greatest stereo surround track ever and remixed it so badly that it bore no resemblance to what was in theaters and on laserdisc. I won’t go into details, but compared to the Image laserdisc, the DD5.1 and DTS tracks were sh!t. Not to mention the 2.0 track on the DVD was just a downmix of the new remix.

So, a friend of mine and I finally got around to taking care of this problem. The DVD has a sensational transfer. The Laserdisc had a sensational PCM soundtrack. So we combined the two using Final Cut Pro. It was a BITCH because there were numerous cases of a frame or two missing from the beginning of shots on the DVD. That meant lots of resyncing. Oh well. Them’s the breaks.

We included the POS DD5.1 soundtrack from the DVD so you can switch back and forth and hear the difference.

In order to keep the picture quality 100% and fit PCM and 5.1 tracks we had to go duel layer. I do not care what anyone says, but you can notice compression on these fan edits. I have a 95 inch projection system and even A+ Studio releases show the limitations of the DVD format.

Layer changes are a bitch right now. It’s hard to get them right. We were close on our master, but it is not the best of changes. Do not worry, it will not come with dialogue or action.

By the way, there was enough room to include the Anchor Bay documentary on the film, even with the bit rate maxed for pic & sound on the main feature.

This is the first fan-edit that I have offered up to the general public. I am asking that people respect my wishes and not take it, compress it and then hand out single layer versions. Please, we worked too hard and want to keep it as is.

Feel free to contact me if you are interested.
