.: The MQG Clip Thread :. (video clips from Star Wars movies with changed music)

Thanks for your feedback. I forgot one thing which I wanted to mention: I loved MagnoliaFan's edit of the music of the Podrace in his Episode I Edit. I think that's the way the whole thing should go.

I am already working on Episode I and it takes me a lot of time to find music that fits. So I hope for any suggestions and ideas from your side. Soon I will post a list with all the music changes I have done so far, but the list won't be very long...

.: The MQG Clip Thread :. (video clips from Star Wars movies with changed music)

Hi people,

In this thread I am releasing concept video clips which show extracts from the Star Wars movies with changed music.

I hope that these clips represent an inspiration for every fan editor. This is my contribution to this community.

In my opinion the score creates at least the half of the atmosphere of a movie.

I always thought that, apart from the special effects, one big element in the PT that is different from the OT is the music, the score. Don’t get me wrong, I love the music John Williams wrote for the PT, there are some great titles like “Duel of the Fates”, “Across the Stars” and “Battle of the Heroes”, and I really enjoy them. And every single title John Williams wrote fits into the situation in the movies for which they have been written.

… we know that choices have been made to use some other music for some scenes than the music JW has intented to be there (e.g. “The Arena” in AotC)…

But replacing music in the PT with other music of the PT is not the point I want to work on. (Maybe a bit). It’s what I have already said: “Every single title John Williams wrote fits into the situations in the movies for which they have been written.” That’s right. But to me and my feeling as a Star Wars fan the music of the PT seldom creates the same Star Wars atmosphere like in the OT. The Force Theme is used very rarely compared to episodes IV,V and VI.

I want to create the atmosphere of Episodes IV, V and VI by using the music of these episodes and some bits from KotOR and SotE and more.

Sometimes I’m experimenting with music from other sources which absolutely doesn’t match the Star Wars feeling but I it to be interesting. So don’t expect to much of those clips!

This was actually a project of changing most of the music of a complete episode. I canceled the work because it was too hard to get rid of all of the old music and still maintaining the dialogue and sound effects without having to build up everything from scratch.

Feedback is always welcome!

Episode II: Shroud of the Dark Side (the TM edit) (Released)
Time
Hey people,

please use rapidshare to upload video clips and other stuff. YouSendIt expires already after 7 days, rapidshare after 30. I don't want to always ask the maker of a clip if he could reupload his clips, I guess I already got one somebody's nerves.

And please reupload the clip of AotC with scenes of Lawrence of Arabia and, if possible, the other clips, like rotoscoped lightsaber duel etc.

MUSIC

I really don't know, and it's weird cause we hear blaster sound effects in it. Is it from a fan film?

Yes, I took it from A Question of Faith, but the music is originally from a real movie. In the credits, there are several movies listed:

The Lost World: "Ludlow's Demise"
Sleepy Hollow: "The Chase"
Demolition Man: "Fire Fight"
The 13th Warrior: "Eaters of the Dead"
Aliens: "Dark Discovery" "Sublevel 3"
Waterworld: "The Atoll" "Gills" "The Skyboat"
Hellraiser III "Pinhead's Proteges"
Alien 3: "Agnus Dei" "Lullaby Elegy" "The Entrapment" "Adiago"

Re-editing the score
Time
I got a pm from TJDavis1138. He described the way how to do it:

1. Rip the dvd as one big vob file. I use dvdshrink to do this. There is a checkmark in the options to not split vob's.

2. Demux the vob file with vobedit. This will give you an ac3 audio file and a video file.

3. Use hypercube transcoder to split the ac3 into six seperate wav files. One of these will be the center channel.

Once again, thank you TJDavis1138, and also InfoDroid for telling me who to ask.

I have done more of those clips of the whole saga.
Now you are working on Episode I and want to use the SotE soundtrack ... which reminds me ... of my podracer video clip.
The music of the scene when Anakin first starts his podracer to check if it works is replaced by a bit of Night Skies. I like the original music of that scene, but it doesn't feel like Star Wars. So:

Podracer

I also worked on Qui-Gon's death:
