The Special Look was really nice. The new stuff we go from Episode IX looks great. The Dark Side Rey could possibly be some Force vision that Ben has of what would happen if Palpatine made her his apprentice. However, even though I don’t think this will happen, does anyone here remember a fan theory that went around online when The Force Awakens was released? The theory was that at the end of the trilogy, Ben would be redeemed as a Jedi, and Rey would fall to the Dark Side.

They just put out a brand new trailer for the film at D23 this weekend! From what I’ve heard, they may release it online on Monday (don’t know how true that is), but from what I’ve heard from people who saw it, they said that Rey appears wearing black robes and wielding a double bladed red lightsaber.

Go ahead and save the footage before it gets removed, then you can delete it this December.

Oh you think it’s bad now, things are gonna go nuclear come December. On the one hand you have all the fans who are primed to hate it no matter what, on the other you have fans with high expectations for the film that could never be met. It won’t be pretty.

I do hope that heated arguments on both this thread and the entire fan base will eventually die by this December, or at least in the next few years. I just would like to have fun with both the franchise and the fandom without being yelled at or harassed for my thoughts and appreciations.

I completely agree. Feels like they can’t please one group without upsetting another! But that’s why I’m trying to be optimistic about JJ’s apparent “F@#% it!” attitude while working on IX.

Best thing to do to get yourself excited for Episode Ix without anyone spoiling or ruining your enthusiasm would be to unsubscribe from this thread once December arrives.

I’m starting to think this thread has been derailed into the topic of the Special Edition changes.

I just thought of a great idea for a video. Once The Rise of Skywalker is released on home video, someone should make a fan made styled credits based off the credits to Avengers: Endgame, crediting everyone from all the Star Wars movies.

Regardless of what happens in Episode IX, fans will be happy or disappointed with anything in the film. I love the Sequel Trilogy, but I am getting tired of some fans spouting out hatred for the trilogy to either beat a dead horse, or to draw attention to themselves, not because they’re attacking something I love, all film is subjective, but it was really annoying the ever living crap out of me. The Internet was heavily polluted last year with negative videos on The Last Jedi.

The fact that fans are believing that time travel is a possibility in Episode IX is total lunacy to me. I could say that Jar Jar is in the movie, and some would think I may be right. As for Red Letter Media’s prediction video, I wouldn’t buy into it if I were any of you. Even though they break down movies in such a fan’s perspective with Mr. Plinkett, Red Letter Media likes to troll with fans in a fun manner that’s not disrespectful in any way. Their predictions about time travel in The Rise of Skywalker is a good example of this.

What’s really interesting is with Gareth Edwards and Lord/Miller, Disney really went down their throats. They had numerous reshoots because they were disappointed with the director’s vision.

With J.J. it was less obvious, but they surrounded him with so much “protection”- teaming him up with Kasdan, and constantly mentioning how they were trying to return to the OT as a subtle jab at the PT’s wackiness.

But here comes Rian Johnson, and Disney absolutely loves him. All through the documentaries for TLJ Kennedy goes on and on about Rian is perfect for the job and his vision is perfect for Star Wars. It’s bittersweet knowing what’s going to happen. One thing we can all agree on is TLJ was the most divise of the Disney SW movies- so it is surprising for the one where they have Rian the most creative freedom to be the one it turns out was most deserving of reshoots (to play it safe).

I know we’ve heard they planned the trilogy out, but TFA and TLJ really don’t play well with each other. TLJ feels like it is making a statement, for better or worse, that the derivative elements of TFA need to go. Maybe on paper that sounded good but in practice it really feels like Rian is changing all of J.J.’s plan. Hence why 9 seems more like a one-off movie (bringing back Palpatine) rather than a conclusion to a trilogy.

I still believe VII and VIII play very well together. It feels like the same story, just two different visionary minds, but that feeling is still there, we’re just experiencing new tones and emotions with the characters and story.

There’s going to be more Star Wars movies, not because it makes narrative sense, but because it makes financial sense. The new movies need to be marketable, and recognizable, but need just enough new elements to keep people interested for the next one. I just can’t view these films in the same light anymore. The context of these films, and how they are made have changed, and I guess so have I. For every mediocre Star Wars film, remake, etc Disney churns out banking on our nostalgia, three or more original movies could have been made, perhaps the Star Wars of this generation, and that makes me sad. Billions of dollars are spent on both sides of the fence running in circles. It’s mind boggling if you really think about it. So, yeah there appears to be a lot of internet bullshit, but I see a lot of it as a symptom of a larger issue.

Honestly, that’s about Disney’s live-action remakes of their animated classics. I know that the reviews for their remake of The Lion King are coming out to be quite mixed, but save that for another topic/thread. This is about The Rise of Skywalker, which I can’t wait for. Actually it’s not imo. The ST thusfar has been a reimagining of the OT very much in the vein of Maleficent, or Alice in Wonderland. So, while it’s not a shot by shot remake like Lion King, I think it fits the nostalgia driven mold that Disney has created very well. Now that Palpatine appears to be back, it looks like in TROS we’re going to see the same evil defeated again in an Empire vs rebels scenario very similar to the OT with another fallen Jedi apprentice likely to redeem himself destroying old Palps. Now, I hope and expect there will be more new elements than in the previous two films, but it won’t alter the fact that the ST has thusfar followed a very similar trajectory as the OT, and thus my points stand.

We don’t necessarily know what will happen in The Rise of Skywalker. I am very excited to see it, and I do love the Sequel Trilogy. I loved The Force Awakens, and I thought The Last Jedi was fantastic. Star Wars has always been about parallels in its storytelling and how everything connects. It’s like what George Lucas said, “It’s like poetry, it rhymes.”

On a very quick side note about Disney’s live-action remakes, as much as I love Disney, I have gotten to the point where I want them to put an end and stop making remakes of their animated films.

I agree with you. In fact, I’m planning on unsubscribing from this thread when we get very close to the release of Episode IX to avoid both spoilers and hatred/complaining. I just want a fabulous experience with my favorite film franchise of all time.

He said “The Sith, the Jedi, the Rebels, let it all die.” He doesn’t want anything to do with them. Palpatine was the last Sith Lord, considering that they have the Rule of Two. A Master and an Apprentice. Vader and Palpatine were the last. We’ll see what’ll happen in The Rise of Skywalker with good ol’ Sheev.

It’s hard to tell who the Sith troopers are taking orders from. It seems to make sense that they would be following Palpatine’s orders, but the marketing has shown them with Kylo Ren. This is also confusing because we know that Ben is not a Sith Lord, and he also wants to put the Sith in the past too.
