Help: looking for... Harry Potter - HDTV ABC/Freeform Broadcasts
Time

Hello. I was wondering if anyone has an HD broadcast of all the Harry Potter movies when the premiered of ABC and Freeform. The networks extended the films (including 3-8) in length when they were shown before the TV rerun rights expired and were sold to Syfy. Warner Bros has officially released extended editions of the first two films on DVD (I’m not sure if on Blu-ray), but have not done the same for the other six movies. I’m curious if anyone has a broadcast.

So do I. Once the seal broke, some of the things I know deep down aren’t seamless or convincing cry out for correction. The theme of V6 has been putting back little things and edges. But yeah, this is getting a bit silly. Hoping to wrap these soon, take a break, and get all 9 wrapped middle of next year.

That’s all right! Take your time and enjoy your personal life as well. We’re all patient and excited to see what you do, but most of all, have fun and enjoy the editing process. I find it to be pretty fun at times.

Star Wars trilogy box sets coming next year?

I hope the OOT - if Disney does in fact decide to pay for a restoration - actually gets released on UHD and isn’t forever stuck on 1080p sdr blu-ray. Taxi Driver was just announced by Sony earlier today for release on the new format, and that movie was made only a year before Star Wars.

Since an OOT restoration would be done at 4k, I suspect that if it happens at all it will be released on UHD with HDR. This rumor from the “unnamed UK source” about how LFL is looking to make the Skywalker saga four discs per movie for the UHD and three discs per movie for the blu-ray has me very, very curious, because that difference in disc count between the two formats could be for any number of reasons.

We’ll just have to wait and see.

But there is one big thing holding that back, George Lucas. He may not own Lucasfilm anymore, but I’m sure he put in the contract deal with Disney back in 2012 that they are to never release the unaltered trilogy. As much as we would hate to find out that that is the truth, the creator does have their say in this discussion, and Bob Iger would agree to what George tells him.

I still think that adding the droid factory sequence back in is a bad idea. It was one of the last minute additions that George Lucas came up with while shooting Attack of the Clones just because there wasn’t enough action in the film. When you watch the sequence, it all really comes down to nothing in terms of story. I think it works well enough by replacing the sequence with the deleted scene between Padmé and Dooku as it was before.

I recall thinking about and discussing it here, and then reflecting the decision in the work Brent I have on my hard drive. However, in this moment and without a lot of sleep, I don’t remember what we decided!
I believe I did leave some bone cracking in there, but that it was rather subtle.

This was the work you made on the scene.

One thing that would be really nice is if Lucasfilm made these decisions.

Restore the original film grain to The Phantom Menace’s picture quality.

Restore the original color grading for Attack of the Clones.

Restore the original color grading for the original trilogy.

Add every deleted scene to the box set from all nine films, including the scenes found on the original DVD releases of the prequel trilogy.

Add every single behind the scenes documentary and featurette for all the movies.

It would be great to have the unaltered original trilogy too, but it would also be cool if Lucasfilm designed the box set to look similar to the DVD extended editions of The Lord of the Rings trilogy. Maybe they could possibly look like the Journal of the Whills.

I don’t think Obi-Wan’s line is improved by removing Anakin’s. Sorry; I don’t see myself doing that. Thanks, though, for suggesting it.

That’s alright. Just something interesting to point out. TM2YC also revealed the Jedi the same way The Phantom Editor did by digitally painting out the lightsabers in the background in one shot of Dooku.

But banter is, by definition, a back-and-forth kind of thing. Removing the other lines means it’s no longer banter.

I know, but Obi-Wan is still interacting with Anakin as he takes notice of Padmé’s actions of climbing on top of the pillar. Just making a suggestion. Check out TM2YC’s edit to see how the scene plays out.

Here’s a nice little re-cut that I noticed in TM2YC’s edit of Episode II.

ATTACK OF THE CLONES:

OBI-WAN: Just relax. Concentrate.

ANAKIN: What about Padmé?

OBI-WAN: She seems to be on top of things.

TM2YC:

OBI-WAN: She seems to be on top of things.

I thought this brief exchange was re-cut nicely in his edit. It improves a bit of character banter between the trio.

I apologize if some of my posts have been terse lately. Most of the time, the reality is that I only have one free hand to punch keys with. I appreciate the fervent discussion very much, because it makes for the best possible, most informed final product. I am also tossing around the droid factory in my head, but have no intention at all to reinstate the garage scene.

That’s alright. We all think your Star Wars work is fantastic and are contributing to help you make new versions/edits.

On a side note, if you were to include the garage scene, there is something that could be done that I believe only seciors has done. That is to put the scene in a different spot.

ATTACK OF THE CLONES:
[Anakin Brings Shmi Back]>[Garage Scene]>[Shmi’s Funeral]

SECIORS (ARMY OF THE REPUBLIC):
[Anakin Brings Shmi Back]>[Shmi’s Funeral]>[Garage Scene]

Is anyone here aware that a Darth Vader breathing sound is heard at the end of the credits? It’s a nice touch and I think it could be added to The Approaching Storm. The only edit of Episode II that I’m aware adds in the breathing is Attack of the Phantom.

Seems like a waste of effort to me. Who’s ever going to hear or notice it? I never knew there was any such thing in TPM or any other SW movie.

I still think it’s a nice little touch George Lucas had added in. Quite honestly, while I strongly believe that post-credit scenes should not be added into the films, this is probably the best and closest thing we should get to a after-credits scene in a Star Wars movie.
