Hello!!! how are you?
I am looking forward to seeing the progress you have made !! 😃
sorry for taking so long to get back, it has been a summer full of work …
here I have the final shot of luke, leia and ben;)

It looks like the source of Driver’s head is the same Idkartist used, except there’s very little movement. In his clip, Driver did a head nod, making it look as if he was allowing Rey to take the Skywalker name.

Speaking of the ending, the music transition into ā€œDirected by JJ Abramsā€ still feels weird. I know it’s been discussed a lot, so sorry if it’s already been decided upon and everything. It’s, like, abrupt and there is no flow or the usual ā€œjoltā€ feeling you get when the credits roll. It just feels jarring and jump cut in the audio. I’m sure it’s incredibly difficult to get a proper timing with what appears to be two separate audio tracks, but it’s just not feeling right.

Could it just be because of how we’re hearing the music as the Falcon is slowly entering hyperspace? Is the timing just all out of whack for my liking?

+1, I was a strong supporter of letting the music play out a little more because the timing cuts in perfectly.

I like this. Also, Ben’s ghost looks cool alongside leia and Luke for this mockup!

I wish it could be like this of using actual movement rather than using a still image of Adam Driver’s head on Luke’s farmboy outfit.

I don’t really want to change this about the original. My understanding from TROS is that Snoke was a meat puppet, possibly literally housing Palpatine’s spirit before he went into a clone body sometime between TLJ and TROS. One thing about this that gives me pause is that Snoke seemed to recognize that Rey and Ben are linked. But I guess them being a dyad is some weird technicality aside from this.

So… essentially Palpatine is now like Lord Voldemort from Harry Potter, where he transferred his spirit into different bodies to keep himself alive or to perform an action that he could not at the current state?

As in, instead of ā€˜I made Snoke’ it could be ā€˜I trained Snoke’ Could work if you can find trained or a similar word said by Palpatine. Doesn’t bother me either way to be honest.

Does anyone here have an interest in making Snoke out to be an apprentice of some sort of Palpatine? Since the vat of his clones have been replaced, I think it could work, but it would also result in the removal of his line, ā€œyou have ever heard.ā€

Agreed, but even just saying, ā€œI made Snokeā€ can still work in the context that Palpatine made him the way he is as he did with his past apprentices. Like he ā€œmadeā€ Vader by turning Anakin to the Dark Side.

Now we all know why Luke wanted to go to Tosche Station so bad and pick up some power converters. His friends told him he should try lightspeed skipping a sand speeder.

Reminds me of that Dukes of Hazard joke from Robot Chicken Star Wars

So just a random question I had in mind that I probably already know the answer to. Many can conclude saying that The Rise of Skywalker is more of a continuation to The Force Awakens than it is The Last Jedi. Are we trying to make sure that this edit is a continuation of The Last Jedi? Personally, I feel that making it a sequel to Episode VIII is important.

So… you’re disappointed that work on this edit may never truly end?

No, just that it’s more melancholy than triumphant.

That’s how I also feel about Lucasfilm saying that The Rise of Skywalker is the final episodic film in the saga. Of course, I think many of us know that that won’t necessarily be the case forever.

Sorry, yeah, I didn’t have time to respond when I saw it and then I forgot!

I had blocked up that scene at some point before and I don’t remember exactly how it went. But I feel like it was better that way and didn’t leave any lose ends. (The ending scene)

The hangar scene doesn’t feel right to me, as theres a dramatic reveal that Palpatine tried to kill her because of… something he didn’t know.

Sorry, I know that’s kind of negative and vague for right now.

Don’t worry about it, I think it needs work too, but cutting it together this way is how we can get around it as a start. I am proud with how the Exegol scene turned out.

Since we haven’t heard back from DominicCobb in a while, I decided to re-cut two samples for a Rey Nobody edit. I think Dominic’s work with Kylo Ren and Palpatine at the beginning and Rey and Luke’s scene are perfect cut together for a Rey Nobody attempt. I’m not sure how you feel about the way he cut together Kylo Ren and Rey’s Force duel with them telling the story of her parents, as that could possibly be used for the Rey Nobody edit.

Anyways, here are some samples for a Rey Nobody edit.

I think Palpatine’s line, ā€œThe only family you have here …is meā€ still works in the context that they’re not related, as it is something he could have said to Vader at the end of Revenge of the Sith after mourning the loss of PadmĆ©.

Nice work, kewlfish! You and Movies Remastered seem well equipped to see this through.

And about Ben’s death, if someone would be able and wish to do the two or three effects shots, I’m sure I or someone can get audio to match. That’s a big if, but I’ll leave it open and we’ll just see.

Thanks, Hal. Sorry about the first attempt with the re-score from yesterday.

Here’s another go at Ben’s death, but with the original score. I probably shouldn’t have tried re-scoring the scene on the first attempt. There might be a better way at extending what John Williams did here, or use another track from the soundtrack, but here’s another try at extending the death. Recutting, regrading and some FX work will be needed in order to achieve this fully.

^ Everyone fully respects the work and quality JJP has accomplished with these edits.

Yet it is up to the editor if they want to make their work available or not, this is especially so in light of what has occurred with these ā€˜advance clips’ and since (with the threats and harrassment towards JJPotter from this entitled idiot).

It is not the community as such that needs to learn from this - just entitled idiots who resort to such threats and harrassment (and also smear JJPotter’s work) because they do not get their own way.

Yes. Ultimately, do not let people like this win just to tear you down. This is a horrible act of cyberbullying. I hope you’ll return JJP!

Yeah, not a fan of the music, but I do like the idea of creating a another wide shot to give the moment of Ben’s death some breathing room. I felt like it just went by so fast from it. If we couldn’t find a way to create the necessary elements for the wide, I wonder if we could just extend the moment, like Dom managed to do for Rey vs TIE on Pasaana and Rey on Ahch-To.

Dido!
