Current shortlist:
Star Wars - A Long Time Ago......
Re-telling Star Wars
Star Wars: Skywalking
The Secrets of Star Wars
Star Wars Uncovered
Conceiving Star Wars
Shaping Star Wars
Forging Star Wars

Still thinking.

Star Wars - A Long Time Ago...... is my favorite. It is different than the others, but stylisticly so is Star Wars. It had a smaller story, and maybe this is just me, but I can look at star wars and tell it was released in a diferent decade from the other two. There is just something that seperates it from the other two. So, I think it would be all right if the title is a little different than BE and RTJ.

The Children of Hurin

it is the story of Turin the dragon slayer. and his sister Nienor. who are the son and daughter of Hurin the steadfast. so the book is called "the Children of hurin". it is one of the two great tales of the silmarillion the other being the tale of beren and luthien.

hopefully if this book is sucessfull chistopher will publish the longer version of beren and luthien, that was never finished. neither was this tale there are many versions and alternates of passages so this book will certainly be working out a complete text from them just like he did with the silmarillion.

I would like to read the original manuscripts, what tolkien actually wrote, readers of the history of middle earth only get a small amount of this. the only thing published in it's complete form are the book of lost tales, and the lays of belerriand as well as the early sketch of the mythology and the annals.

the most interesting volumes to me are morgoth's ring, and the war of the jewels. being the final version of the silmarillion tolkien worked on until his death, albeit in very compressed form with lots of notes.

then there is that other book coming out about the history of the hobbit, in 2 volumes not written or edited by christopher tolkien but sanctioned by the tolkien estate.

the one book they blocked from being published that i very much wanted to read was Tolkien's translations of the epic old english poem beowulf in prose and verse edited with tolkien's original notes by michael d.c. drout professor of wheaton college massachusetts.

by the the way there is an illustrated hardback edition by alan lee coming out, and i think he does the cover art as well.

I think I will pick up the illustrated edition to go with my Lord of the Rings boxset illustrated by Allen Lee.

Two words - FAT NECK!

This is about the fat neck comment, I don't know if you know this or not, but his "fat neck" is caused by a lack of iodine and is called a goitre. Here is more information about it: The most common cause for goitre in the world is iodine deficiency (E01); this condition is commonly called endemic goitre. It is curable by mass food-supplementation with iodine (in the form of iodide or iodate). It is an actual medical condition, and shouldn't be taken lightly or made fun of. Please don't make fun of something like this.

To export the the rotoscoped file from After Effects select Composition>Make Movie. This will create an avi file.

And for TMPGEnc. in the project wizard select NTSC (16:9) > CBR MPEG Layer II Audio Audio (MP2) > Next > Browse for Video File > Browse for Audio File > Video Type- Non-Interlace > Aspect Ratio-16:9 Display > Content of Video-Film Movie > Next > Don't select anything on the Filter Setting page > Next > Don't change anything on the Bitrate Setting > Next > Select your output destination > Don't select "Ouput video and audio as individual elementary streams" > OK > A notice will pop up after you hit OK, select OK on the notice, and encoding will begin. Hope this helps.

Ok, that was what I was thinking I just didnt know if there was another way. Thats cool thanks again Marv this is everything someone could hope for and more

Ok I was messing around with this and I think I figured out how to do 2 light sabers without doing 2 separate renders. You create a new solid then drag and drop the preset (just like the instructions) and animate the one light saber. Then create another solid and drag and drop the preset on that newly created solid and now you have a second blade to work with for the other light saber. I havent tried more than two but I would think you could do this as many times as needed for as many light sabers you have in a scene.

I am glad this is working for you, because I know how much of a hassle it is to rotoscope frame by frame. And this method makes rotoscoping into something you can do without dreading.

You guys aren't going to believe this, but last Sunday my PC crashed as well. Will only start in standby mode. Today I hope to have it up and running again.

Maybe it's just a coincidence....

I am telling you all Lucas is lurking on these boards like a rat. I say we smoke him out.

At least on the way i do sabers. Generally I create some fresh layers and assign them later [ie: screen] and I don't really use the line tool for anything, I'd highlight the original core [white area] with the magic wand and use that as a guide.

This tutorial was made by a guy who experimented with multiple turorials and made his own. I like this tutorial because the blade is already made for you, and it is completely adjustable. But I would love to see your tutorial, because it may be better than this one.

I use virtualdubmod to create the avi, and I use TMPGEnc. to convert the avi back to Mpeg2. Here is the tutorial that Andrew Kramer over at Video Copilot.net made:Andrew KramerLightsaber Tutorial

Also you will need these presets made by Andrew himself to make this tutorial work:Andrew Kramer Lightsaber Presets

Open up the tutorial video and it will explain to you how and where to install the presets. Dont install them before he shows you how to in the tutorial, this insures that you put them in the right place.

P.S. Here is his websites turorial page that has alot of very useful tutorials for After Effects:Andrew Kramer's Tutorials

Sluggo is right. To my knowledge (and it's quite advanced don't ya know ), the shot you mention does not exist.

As far as I know the idea of killing off one of the main cast was abandoned before any shooting was done and definately before any effects work was completed. Even the early animatic (see 'Returning to Jedi' at 02:17:35) shows the Falcon speeding away from the Death Star.

Here is a page from TBones Universe:TBone's Universe

Because it had been so long since I had seen that page I thought it had a clip of the Millenium Falcon exploding, but it actually was presenting evidence against the idea that the Millenium Falcon was destroyed in the Death Star. I guess because it had been so long since I had read the article I was thinking I had saw something I hadn't. I guess you guys were right.

While looking on my backups I uncovered a clip of the falcon escaping the Death star. It is showing the falcon spinning through the shaft coming right towards the camera. It is nothing spectacular but I thought I would share. Also, Jambe I have some old video taped footage of the filming of the Mos Eisley entrance and Obi-Wan walikng onto the catwalk beside the power generator that controls the energy shield on the Death Star. I wil post these incase you can use them.

Does part 23 exist on youtube? I can't find it.

Did you consider adding the rumor that the Falcon was supposed to be destroyed in the DS explosion? I'm not suggesting you should have. I'm just wondering if you happened to find out anything interesting about it.

Part 23 is now up.

I did think about mentioning Lando's death but I couldn't really find anything video or audio-wise to relate to it or back it up.

Thanks for the compliments.

JD

I had a early teaser trailer that had a quick ( I mean blink and you will miss it) clip of the Millennium Falcon exploding while escaping the Death Star. If I can find it I will post it.
