I'm gonna play with this further. Plus, I wasn't sure if anyone had tried this, but there is some unused footage in the trailers which i'm going to incorporate. It's only one shot but there is another that might be usefull for the mustafar battle sequence (it's Anakin walkign down the hall)... and there is another of him looking all emo but it hadn't been digitized yet so... just fyi.

That shot of Anikan walking down the hall is in the trailer purely as filler to add the idea that Anikan was turning evil and was never going to go into the film. ILM has stated this. This shot was an unused shot that still had a green screen background and the trailer needed some extra stuff so they slapped a quick background into it and stuck it into the trailer. However, if you can find away to get it in and look right it might be nice.

the targetting computer readouts. hate hate hate the TIE targetting icons. love the rest, hate them. for me, this is a targetting display, and I think this is my military background coming out here, but having the readout display actual TIE's is a bit of a misnomer, a targetting package is there to give you target cues, not display the actual shape of the target. while the rest of it is perfectly fine. I'd personally ditch the TIE icon and put a chevron back in.

Maybe the targetting display is advanced enough to show whatever craft you are targetting in its actual form on the display. I like this change, but respect your reasons for hating it. Also, I like that this battle is chaotic and not so stiff. Now I feel like they are really threatened ,because ties are comming from everywhere. Remember that Tarking wanted it to appear as if they had fought there way to freedom so that they wouldn't suspect that the Falcon was being tracked. Also, now that there is more danger it adds more humor and meaning to Leia's line "that is the only explination for the ease of our escape" and Han's line in return " Easy? You call that easy!".

The Star Wars Archives, a different kind of preservation

Darth Neo, in the ROTS 60 Minutes interview that you posted they mentioned a couple of times an interview with George Lucas they did on TPM back in 1999. I was wondering if you had this, because I would like to have it for my collection also. And does anyone know where I can get the George Lucas interview that is on the 97 SE set?

I also posted this in the "The Making of The Empire Strikes Back thread.

I made that statement in relation to jedi_ira's clip. In that clip the entire birth scene has been cut, and the only thing remaining is Padme laying on the table, a shot of Obi-Wan and a shot of Yoda. I was trying to figure out a way to expand that scene and stick with jedi_ira's plan to cut the birth scene.

However, if the entire birth scene stays in ( And I think it should ) , the thing I don't like about it is the idea of Padme losing the will to live. That is a weak reason for the death of a strong character, especially when that character has two newborns. So to solve that problem I said the medical droid should be dubbed saying something like this "Do to trauma we have lost her."

GoodMusician, Wow! Where to begin!? I love your edits. I like the way you ended the scene between Obi-Wan and Padme on Coruscant, and the way you inserted the shots of Coruscant after Padme departs in her ship. Also, your audio transitions from scene to scene seem very well done with only minor tweaking required. And the Yoda's vision on Polis Massa is an amazing idea, and the shot of Anikan's hand clawing up the bank and then cutting away quickly is awsome. The way you edited the birth of Luke, and dropped the s off of babies in the Polis Massa scene also works very well. And the music swelling after Padme dies is very powerful in a good way. Overall, your edit does a very good job at improving the ending. Good job, and keep the ideas coming!

Something that would help to give the Polis Massa scene more substance is to take the part where the droid comes out and says " We are losing her. We don't know why, but she has lost the will to live." Put it at the begging of the Polis Massa scene , and dub over the droids lines with something like this " Do to trauma we have lost her. " Then have the part of Obi-Wan walikng to the right of the screen looking sad, and then show the shot of Padme lying on the table, and then show Yoda looking at her in sadness. Then wipe to the next scene.

They were done by Dark Jedi from the 1997 release of the Special Edition VHS NTSC tapes.

Can these be downloaded? I have the 97 special editions legitimatly on VHS, and I own the 2004 DVD set, but I would love to have a DVD transfer of the 97 set. I don't want these pif'ed to me so if these aren't downloadable I guess I will do without.

Personally, I think taking a part of the movie that has no music and adding it is an example of "doing something because I can." Again, consider that the music is left out of that scene FOR A REASON.

I really can't see how you could possibly accuse me of doing something like that. If you have read throughout this thread you will see that there have been ideas i had and tried out that after i sat back and watched them in their entirety i agreed that they didn't work and they were removed.

the music as it stands on the clip is very "in your face" because this was just a very quick mix. It is going to be toned down a lot in the final edit. If you notice the shot where Obi-Wan's cloak drops has been lengthened so the original cue will no longer fit. If i posted the new saber battle in its entirety & with a finished mix then it might become clearer why i still believe that having the music does work.

I decided to do a quick render yesterday of the full battle and decided to show it to everyone that was at my BBQ last evening. 5 i know that are not star wars fans and have never even seen it (OMG ) so i could get a clearer view of the added music. the majority agreed with me on this matter and they loved the music saying it fits in nicely although a few did admit they were too interested in the new sabers than the music. It worled out at about 75% liked it, 25% either didn't or weren't too bothered by it. Maybe having 30 years without music in that scene is why most here don't like it. Who knows. But at the end of the day i do and that was the whole reason i started the project in the first place. I'm sorry to sound like a stubborn kid on this matter but this is the first time i will be going with the minority here on a subject, so the music stays, for the moment. If, after i sit down for the pre-release viewing i feel that it indeed doesn't fit then it will go. ..

Or i guess i could do an alternate mix as a secondary audio track that doesn't have the music i guess so you'd have a choice.

adywan, in that video clip you posted I noticed something you missed. The light surrounding the opening in the docking bay is not glowing and blurred from when Luke screams "NO" until the ship is leaving then the light starts glowing and becomes blurred.

Thanks for noticing that, Marvolo. This slipped by me. Just fixed it.

adywan, do whatever makes you happy. If you feel the music adds something positive to the scene then add the music. Something we all have to realize is that you have seen your edit of the duel in its entirity with music, and we have only seen a small part of your edit of the duel with music in it, so I am sure you know a little bit more about what works best with your version of the duel.

Question about Tarkin

The relationship between Vader and Palpatine does not confer any particular rank or authority to Vader. If Vader is subordinate to Tarkin on the Death Star because the Death Star belongs to Tarkin, he would also be subordinate to any other Grand Moff/Regional Governor when in that GM/RG's territory. This legal reality is probably why Vader was installed in Death Squadron and given a mandate to operate freely throughout the Empire's regions; after Vader's disastrous losses of the Death Star plans[1] and generally bad behavior, no Grand Moff would dare let him embark on one of their ships.

[1] He lost them, got them back, then lost them again.

I am just going by standard commanding procedure, and what I learned about Tarkin and Vader's relationship in Dark Lord: The Rise of Darth Vader.
