I’ve been seeing a lot more criticism for TFA as of late. I hope it reaches an equilibrium soon so we know exactly where it stands.

That’ll happen after the entirety of the ST has come out and the fervor of hatred the internet is swept up in (not just regarding Star Wars but regarding every source of entertainment) dissipates. TFA’s legacy will mostly hinge on Episodes VIII and IX though.

I think the video release will probably be hangover time for quite some people (it reminds me when TPM was released on vhs and dvd: “well, it’s not that great in fact… anyway, Ep II gonna be awesome !”).

In what way I should watch a Star Wars Marathon?
Time

“I’ve seen through the lies of the OT.com members. I don’t fear the PT as you do”

(I’m even beginning to think TFA to be far worse than the PT. I’ll be sure within two weeks about that)

I totally agree that III to IV does not work. But, to be fair, IV to V is not that natural either (even with the SE). The same goes with I to II. GL made IV as a stand alone (we can feel there is a bigger story, that sequels could happen, but IV delivers something that is enjoyable on itself, with a clear beginning and ending); and EpI was made as a first chapter that would emulate a stand alone (strangely, before II was released the marathon order was I-IV-V-VI, and it worked better with the huge 32 years gap).

What Didn't You Like About ROTS?

L8wtr keeps it while cutting many bad lines, and cuts PLENTY of Palps either falling over chairs or making weird facial expressions.

L8’s version of the fight is better than the theatrical, but it’s a little bit “sloppy”. The available material is hard to cut, since the theatrical cut is already quite short. Anyway, I’m looking forward to seeing his v2 take on this curiously funny scene.

<strong>STAR WARS: REBELS</strong> (animated tv series) - a general discussion thread
Time

Disney is unable to produce anything which is not a blatant OT rip off. That being said, it’s possible to enjoy the show, and this brillant finale. Season 1 was ANH reboot, season 2 is ESB reboot. Not very convinced by the simili Zimmer ending music (not very Star Wars) but the emotion (Vader, Ahsoka, Maul) sealed this finale as the best this series has offered yet. As a bonus, Sarah Michelle Gellar’s Seventh Sister laugh is going to be historic.

By the way, those who are still believing that Disney will eventually declare the PT as non-canon and will hence produce new Ep I-II-III should really forget their hopes. PT and OT have never been so tied than they are under Disney’s rule. For the best I may add.

The Force Awakens : Fan Edit Ideas
Time

I wouldn’t change Ren exposition and dialogues. It’s fine that there is barely no suspense about who he’s related to, otherwise it would be quite ridiculous. The main issues of the movie are internal ones, cutting a few weird dialogues would not deeply improve it, but that’s a start. The first things that should be removed in any subsequent fanedit would be the distracting fan service bits: space chess, Luke’s training ball, 12/14 parsec raid. It’s been 3 months since I’ve seen the movie so I don’t recall more little annoying bits; maybe the second Han/Leia dialogue which seemed forced and badly written, and the “who’s in charge Phasma” that can easily be cut entirely. There is also the map puzzle thing which was too long. Anyway, right now I’m more willing to watch a “conservative” fan edit (with only a few minutes cut) because we still don’t know what’s coming with Ep VIII & IX.

Info: Bad news for anybody wanting to use the deleted scenes in a TFA fanedit or extended edition
Time

Not a real issue, since the theatrical cut is too long. SW movies shouldn’t be more than 2h (without credits). The political exposition can easily be given in the opening crawl anyway (if such a scene has been shot, would be mandatory to putting it back). A more complete edition will deliver the other cut scenes, just wait a few months.

“Finn Will Be Fine” sounds like a Giacchino track 😄

Ranking the Batman films
Time

Another “rank it yourself” thread, fun:

  1. Batman Returns
  2. DC Animated Shared Universe: Batman The Animated Series / Superman The Animated Series / The New Batman Adventures / Batman Beyond / Return of the Joker / Justice League / Justice League Unlimited
  3. Mask of the Phantasm (as good as rank 2, but not tv series nor tv movie, actual movie released in theaters)
  4. Batman (1989)
  5. The Dark Knight
  6. Batman Begins
  7. The Dark Knight Rises
  8. Batman Forever
  9. Batman & Robin

Still have not finished Batman 1966 & tv series, but it’s fun so I would rank it higher than the boring Nolan flicks. I don’t like “Subzero”, but as part of the animated universe it is ranked second with the others (well, not the Batwoman lame tv movie). BvS remains to be seen, but from what I’m hearing I’m not in a hurry…

I think ROTS (especially fan edited) is easily on par or better than ROTJ or even TFA in some aspects.

ROTJ beats ROTS (plain or fan-edited). ROTJ fan-edited definitely beats ROTS (plain or fan-edited).

What ROTJ fan edit ? Real question: I’m very fond of ROTJ but I’m interested by an edit that could correct minor silliness. Even if to my view ROTS (as a fan edit) is a good and enjoyable movie, ROTJ will always rank higher (the fun Jabba overture, the moving Luke-Vader-Palpatine confrontation, some parts of the Endor subplot, and the action packed space battle: very good stuff).

My work print is rendered and I will eventually throw up a link for it.

A ROTJ edit? Don’t post the link publicly though.

Star Wars Episode I-III : The Rule of Two (Tokyotaitai Fan Edit)

Should I remove the scene when Anakin confesses to Padme that he slaughtered the Sand People, and possibly remove Obi-Wan’s scene with Count Dooku in Geonosis?

Yep for the confession (how can Padmé marry him after that ?); keep the Dooku scene, in which there is the only mention of Jinn in Ep II, and I guess it’s important to understand Jinn had been trained by someone who has turned evil (probably after his former apprentice death), there is some kind of a pattern here (which shows that Lazy Lucas knew what is what doing, but sadly he was lacking someone to challenge him to improve his scripts).

Qui-Gon Jinn is a good character, but a lame Jedi:

  • got killed by a Sith
  • his inofficial apprentice becomes Vader
  • his former Master became Sidous apprentice

Something got wrong with Jinn, and it is actually said in TPM, as if he was a member of a third order, not with the dark side, not completely with the light, between. He tries to set things right by helping Yoda and Ben how to live through the Force but the harm was done. Could be fun to see his force ghost in Ep VIII, along with Hayden’s.
