If you assume/consider that Solo and Rogue One are better movies than Ep I, II or III, which is not the case (at least for me). Besides, Ady no longer wishes to alter the PT. I think the question is how did Rey know that the First Order was there (as it’s a beacon to the Resistance). The simple explanation is that she saw their location as part of her vision when she touched hands with Ben.

Yep, the shield breaking is kinda sloppy. It would have been better to take down a “proxy/firewall” shield (like Ben deactivating the magnetic field in ANH) than tearing apart a “physical” shield. The shot of the destroyer falling into it is neat, but quite over the top considering in ANH Imperial Officers don’t seem that impressed by the Rebel victory over Scarif (guys, they just destroyed a couple of Star Destroyer, a planetary shield, and the Imperial Army archives have been wiped out because of them ! How is it possible that Tarkin under estimates their chances in ANH ?!?).

So, how I would have pictured it with a less obvious rewriting:

• commando team reaches the planet surface
• they get the plans
• they try to escape with the plans
• shield is closed, damned ! (their pilot was killed anyway, but still…)
• idea ! we can transmitte them
• man, there is an “anti data transmission” shield ! F*** !
• ok guys, this one can be taken down on the surface
• ok, job is done, transmite the plans !
• the dish is not aligned… come on guys for f*** sakes !
• dish aligned, good !
• damned, how come Krennic is there ?
• cool, Krennic is out, wasn’t easy with all his dark troopers but it’s cool, now push it, beam the plans !
• ABOARD REBEL AMIRAL SHIP : yeah, we get the plans, now we can leav… hum, what’s that noise ?
• FRACKING VADER WITH A RED SABER GOING BERSERK, run you fools !!!
• ok, quickly beam the plans to Leia’s ship, she’s the closest we can trust, beam several transmissions to be sure
• TANTIVE IV : Princess, we just got several transmissions. They contain the DS plans. Here is a storage card with all the data. Bad news is, there seems to be an Imperial ship going on our way…
• A NEW HOPE

So you remove the “master switch” subplot to replace it with a “destroy the anti-transmitter” action scene, and it’s done !

What’s more consistent than the movie is the people here not changing their mind about it even more than 2 years later 😄

Indeed but someday people will discover the movies in the chronological order; this is what I take in perspective. When you wath R1/ANH back to back, you see the inconsistencies in that order.

The issue is not about being logical or not, the real trick is: this piece of information of the DS being sabotaged by its own engineer is a rationalization of something magical/Force related in ANH, and it was totally unecessary. That’s why I compare that to the midichlorians: going for magic to something… logical, mathematical, biological, rational… it goes 100% against the spirit of the OT and particularly of ANH.

The fact dialogues in ANH have now a weird inconsistency with R1 ret-con is another issue, but not the worst.

(and at least PT inconsistencies are set some 20 years before ANH, not 5 minutes prior to it 😕)

Indeed. This is what I hate the most about R1. It’s as stupid as the midichlorians stuff. The death star is a dragon, with a weakness that people oversaw (“we have analysed their strategy… there might be a danger”). Not just a random weapon with a defect placed within on purpose.

In R1, as a Prequel, I can excuse and understand a few inconsistencies with the OT. But this “implemented sabotage” is inexcusable for me. It steals away something of the soul of ANH. I wish R1 had been what it was supposed to be: a heist movie with a death wish commando getting the plans, not a father-daugther relationship story. Basically more or less the way Maple reedited the movie as “The battle of Scarif” 😃

That’s very cool ! I like the regrade. I never noticed how dark were the bluray colors. Except on Dagobah: I prefer the bluray green colors though. It seems we’re losing lots of details with the regrade.

Just thinking about that right now: I remember there was an idea with the Death Star II shield which was abandoned (but later recycled by Emmerich in his ID4 OT hommage/rip off), where some rebel ships are destroyed trying to go through the shield (which is invisible, not like in Rogue One where the shield has a blue color). Is this going to be added in Revisited ?

About kk650’s hybrid cut, there only seems to be the following differences with your edit:

• “All extra shots of Darth Vader going back to the Executor removed” : you’ve kept one of them
• “The original emperor from the theatrical release has been returned” : you’ve used Adywan Revisited Emperor
• The Wampa scene seems to be the SE version : you’ve recreated the theatrical version
• to be confirmed, but I’m not sure kk650 has used the Falcon cockpit shots prior to the 2004 reframed dvd version

Besides kk650’s version provides 3 heavy tracks (1 pcm and 2 dts), hence I’m not sure the video quality is that much better than the 1997’s reconstruction you’ve used.

The best solution would indeed be to regrade the original bluray file, if possible with a less time consuming algorithm. At least for Hoth and Bespin (the pink saber…).

Another solution - but you won’t like it - would be to make an alternate version of your project using the bluray video untouched, for video quality consistency from Episode I to Episode VIII. I myself find the colors good (I like better the revisited colors though), only main issue being the pink Vader’s saber which really looks bad.

Are imperial forces coming from beneath the ship in ANH ? They come from a main door I think ? (I’ve found some Tantive IV blue prints but it’s not that clear actually)

We don’t get to see Organa’s ship in Rogue One, so there is no real evidence that Leai’s ship isn’t Organa’s ship 19 years later (the Falcon has changed between ROTS - Solo - ANH, why wouldn’t the Tantive IV ?)

That some people is me 😃 I always thought it was the same ship with only parts repainted over the years. Antilles is even the Captain of both (unless I’m making a mistake), fueling the confusion even more.
