4K restoration on Star Wars

Like before?

Well, it was slightly different in 2015. The day before the digital release dropped (which was the same week as Celebration IIRC) there was a report citing a “source” within LFL that the Han/Greedo scene had been altered yet again, this time back to its original pre-SE edit.

That report may yet turn out to be true. It could be a change that’s being saved for the 4k remaster.

Anyway, yeah, it wasn’t an OOT rumor that time. But Greedo shooting first is arguably the most controversial change George has made to these films. Changing it back to its original state would be a big deal all on its own.

It’s important to note that the article’s source didn’t specifically say that we should expect the OOT the way that every other rumor has. They kind of hinted at it, but again, the point was more that there were 4K restorations happening, not that we’d get the original versions. That, to me, makes the article a bit more credible since it isn’t as speculative.

Yeah, but they also mention that Lucasfilm is thinking at least three discs per movie and that this Skywalker Saga release will “please fans.”

For the OT films, just what in the world could that possibly mean other than the unaltered version on one of those discs?!

Just visit some other Star Wars boards, and you’ll find that most fans are pleased with the SE. Many of them will argue, that they wouldn’t mind an OOT release, but they don’t view it as essential, and some don’t care for it at all. The OOT fans have sadly become a monority, so “please the fans” doesn’t have to imply an OOT release. The SE in the best state possible with a ton of previously unreleased extras will do that for most fans.

The whole “who shot first” thing is still widely associated with the Star Wars fandom. Pleasing the fans is an obvious nod to the OUT in this context. Whether this will happen or not is a different question.

The whole point of what’s being discussed it is “will it happen or not”, so this is not a different question. Dre is right: most fans (and don’t forget almost everybody is a SW fans, not only the dozens of people on this forum) don’t mind the SE.

For all we know, the “will please the fans” could even be one last Lucas iteration of each movie 😕 (he sold Lucasfilm but if he ever wanted to alter the movies eve more, I’m pretty sure Disney wouldn’t mind at all)

(as a matter of fact, I would love one last iteration… but a good one this time, à la Revisited)

Revenge of the Sith: Rebalanced - <em>Version 1.5.1 Released! Now with Subtitles and More!</em>
Time

I’ve watched some parts of v1.2. Some very good ideas (I like what you’ve done with Palpy vs Mace, keeping the weirdness of Palpy’s fighting style and the melting face scene without the ridiculous “he’s the traitor! No, it’s him!”). I just wish you had alter the ending more, especially Sidious vs Yoda where you’ve kept all of it (and the dialogues here are especially very very bad). Have you tried to remove the “she’s lost the will to live” ? I don’t have an issue with Padmé dying, but the medical reason behind it is very lame (I remember someone - Q2 ? - changed it to remove this line, keeping only “we are losing her”).

Many good stuff though. Great video quality. Great editing.

Sounds very interesting. I’ve sent you a PM (I’ll wait for v1.3).

I hope you’ll make a v1.4 to reimplement the seed of rebellion scenes. They indeed damage the pace a little bit but they give more deepth to the PT as a whole.

(and too bad you didn’t keep an edited version of the balcony scene, probably for the same reasons Hal didn’t kkeep it as well)

Star Wars trilogy box sets coming next year?
Time

There is something you need to know: there is no conspirary to hide away the OOT. If the guy doesn’t mention the OOT, it’s just because it ain’t about the OOT. If one day they release them, it will be clear and crystal. The Star Wars canon for Ep I to VI are the cuts available since 2011.

I’m glad it seems they might have found a way to improve the video quality of even Ep II and III. The “will please fans” is probably all deleted scenes available in HD (like the ones showed last year with “this Sith Lord” being said during ANH officer meeting).

Your thoughts on the Episode IX title - <strong>'The Rise Of Skywalker'</strong>
Time

T3: Rise of the machines was translated as Le soulèvement des machines, which was a good translation for this context. Dark Knight Rises was translated… Dark Knight Rises 😄

In this context Apogée is a good title. It seems it exists in english as well (Apogee… probably of french origin ?), would have been even nicer to use it for the original title : The Skywalker Apogee 😃

The Rise of… is too common for a Saga such as Star Wars.

“Skywalker” as non plural feels very palpatine. I hear his voice when I read the title.

He’ll have to wait on international translations to know if it’s singular or plural. That’s being said, I considerer they made a mistake with TLJ translated in plural in french, whereas Rian explained it was meant to be singular.

L’apogée de Skywalker

ou bien

L’apogée des Skywalker

Episode IX: The Rise Of Skywalker - Discussion * <strong><em>SPOILER THREAD</em></strong> *
Time

I like the fact the best ideas from this trailer are from Lucas 😄

It kinda mixes his 2010’s Episode 7 ideas with his (and Kurtz) 1980’s Episode 9 ideas.

I’m sold on the Emperor. Could be the only way to redeem lame Snoke to make him a puppet of a Palpatine Force Ghost.

Lando looks like Solo in episode 7, i.e. lame 😕

It would be great to have a nine film box set of all three trilogies. The unfortunate truth is that the unaltered versions of the original trilogy will never be released (most likely something George Lucas made clear when selling his property to Disney in the contract). It would be nice is Lucasfilm color corrected the Special Editions to remove the color timing issues that were introduced in the original 2004 DVD release.

What Disney business executive would be crazy enough to agree to that deal?

Executive who is going to make billions out of Star Wars in a world where the original cuts don’t interest much people ?
Executive who is buying every single franchise ?
Executive who is burying most of new content to keep audiences in a nostalgia trend ad vitam aeternam ?

…Disney executive in a nutshell…
