House of Cards season 5: Luke Cage
[I can’t even understand how ANH and TESB wouldn’t get 10/10 but weird grades such as 8.2… I mean, what’s the .2 about exactly ?]
Since we’ve already talked decimals into the ground, there’s also the 10/10 business. I love Star Wars, really I do. But at its best, it’s around 8/10. There’s better films. There’s better sci-fi. You have to leave room at the top of the scale for that. Annie Hall won the Oscar fair and square. I’ll see myself out, thanks 😉
What sci-fi movies do you have in mind ? (educated guess: Alien, Blade Runner, Starship troopers, 2001)
- The Force Awakens = Star Wars
I’m a fan of TFA but I can’t go that far.
I quote it, as a proof that every 10 000 posts you write we can still agree on something essential.

If it were up to me, I’d rescore the entire franchise.
What theme would you choose for each character ? IM3 theme is more heroic - and close to Thor 2 theme - but IM1 theme suits the character better.

I forgot to tell you: it’s not available yet.
I can make the Turkish subtitles. What should I do if I am to do this?
Start with the original bluray subs (or threepio project, since Ady’s version seems to be closer to the GOUT) file, and resync it with subtitle-workshop (free software). If the turkish translation is bad or incorrect you’ll also have the opportunity to rewrite some of it.
That’s being said I recently made a new french translation of the 2011 SE (very close to the original version: Darth Vader instead of Dark Vador and so on; but I’ve kept Faucon Millenium instead of the english version); would be my pleasure to resync it to Ady’s version when the time comes if necessary.
BS. There’s no evidence LFL is messing with Edwards’s vision and I doubt they would be.
Hahahaha did you even read that article?
Yep. Edwards is under contract, so I don’t think he’s gonna go wild against Gilroy you know… but the final cut won’t be his.
Disney whores…
@ spellwrong
It could be an interesting comment if it had any relevance to the subject. But I’m used to forced sarcastic (and not funny) comments when Disney is under fire here… But I don’t find Disney whores interesting as a matter of fact.
BS. There’s no evidence LFL is messing with Edwards’s vision and I doubt they would be.
And the guy who made Jurassic World is exactly what a “yes man” is. As long as JJ was injecting nostalgia into TFA the studio was happy with it (what happened to the screenwriter who asked for 6 more months to develop new things ? Fired… and the result on screen is an unfinished script). We are talking about Disney here; have you seen the Marvel movies ? The recent Pixar movies (fine movies, except less good than the first ones) ? What happened to John Carter ? What happened to Tomorrowland ?
Reshoots, composer remplacement, director who won’t get the final cut, script alterations after principal shooting (“more humor”)… yep, I don’t really think there will be that much left of Edwards vision. Bullshit ? No: facts. Does it mean the movie is gonna be a failure ? Don’t know. Maybe, maybe not.
Star Wars is about Luke Skywalker, not about how his Dad became evil.
In fact Star Wars is about many things. It’s both Luke’s story and Anakin’s story. ROTJ has really been made that way in 1983 when Lucas was developping his PT ideas. So ANH and ESB are Luke’s story, but ROTJ is both Luke’s and Anakin’s story.
The issue with chronological order is that they could not want to complete the saga if they begin with the PT. If they really want to, add the “Clone Wars” cartoon network movie which fuels everything that’s missing in the movies. That way you get an overall PT better experience.
If you speak french: http://www.lepoint.fr/pop-culture/cinema/star-wars-rogue-one-ce-que-cache-le-depart-brutal-d-alexandre-desplat-16-09-2016-2068991_2923.php
The conclusion represents my (bad) feeling about this (feeling that I would call “Marvelization”*):
One thing is certain: whatever the quality is (and we really wish it to be good), the Star Wars movie, which is released in theaters on December 14, won’t definitely belong to Gareth Edwards.
I would add that what was supposed to be a risky and unique project is probably going to be an Episode VII-2. It can still be good (Edward’s powerfull scales and beautiful shots are in the trailer), but it’s unlikely to be something as interesting as it could have been. So it’s not that strange that Disney-LFL hired an “auteur” director for VIII (Rian Johnson) and two different “yes-man” for VII and IX (the Star Trek reboot guy and… the Jurassic Park reboot guy).
[* time to say something nice about TFA: it’s still better than any Disney-Marvel movie. Not by a long shot, but on blockbuster standards I think it’s as good as Winter Solider or Ant-Man]
I hear about this movie from time to time. Last time, the recent issue of Silvestri’s score which quickly went out of print.

To me, Giacchino’s work is generally a little deeper than Williams and a bit more serious.
This is a bold statement.

What I don’t get is the general love for the first Avengers movie, it’s just a dumb action flick.
It’s an empty movie. Not much going on in it. And it looks awful (like a cheap tvseries). Avengers 2 is better in every way. Not good though, only better.
The charge comes from Adam Driver, so they aren’t “preempting” anything. The only way Rian could preempt the “inevitable ESB rip-off complaints” is that his movie would not be a ESB rip-off 😃
(by the way, can’t Edgar Wright direct Episode 9 ?)
I watched Civil War again because my brother got it on DVD, and I must say, everytime I watch the film ilike it a bit more than the time before. I can safely call Zemo my favourite MCU villain after Loki.
Civil War might be the dumbest Marvel so far.
I really don’t get the hate for Iron Man Three.
There also is a quite good action sequence (the air force one, sadly ruined by a curious joke about Stark not being in the suit), and there are many Shane Black auto-quotations that are fun here and there. Way better than Iron Man 2, but not as balanced as Iron Man 1. Both are watchable. It’s not The Avengers.
I just hate it when there is a band of random “cool” guys put together to do something.
You should watch Seven samurai.
People who think they’re the only smart ones are my favorite posters here. Mala, Impscum, Darth Id…y’all are our own precious treasures!
I love you too Frink. Always on personal attacks, don’t change, you’re my favorite sucker. You do it right.
It’s logical, most people love bad movies. Also most modern blockbusters are dumb such as this one or the last Star Trek movie, which was a complete failure. Only exception being BvS, so bad that it’s hard to find someone loving it.
Ouch, désolé d’apprendre tes soucis d’ordi…
Yep. The other three (IM 3 being better than the second one by the way) are just dumb; Civil war tries to be complex and ends up showing a lame brawl in a german airport.

Civil War might be the dumbest Marvel so far. It’s really hard to mix deep interrogations about heroism and responsabilities when every single character is written as a teenager (“he’s killed my parents !”, “yes, but he’s my friend !”…). Winter Soldier was ok, Ant-Man was ok too thanks to the long Edgar Wright project development, but this one… only BvS can top its silliness. I really miss when superheroe movies were good… I don’t understand why people seem to love this franchise. It’s such a mess on every level (and not only the music - great Tony Zhou video essay, as usual - but also the editing, the writting, the casting, the sets…).
