Star Wars Episode IX (was) to be directed by Colin Trevorrow - DUEL OF THE FATES RIP
Time

JJ Abrams… if he doesn’t write the script at least he will get the job done. I find his TFA visually uninteresting, so I just hope he can work on that for IX. Even bad SW are visually interesting in my opinion (I-II-R1) except TFA that I find flat (with a few good shots here and there, but it’s not enough).

Since SW movies aren’t author movies anymore (unlike Lucas/Kurtz then Lucas/alone eras) but huge studio production closely validated by an army of shareholders which has elected Kennedy to represent them, I do believe that any director could write/direct Episode IX. You don’t need someone too good for the job. They should take Justin Lin to deliver the product (at least this time the action scenes could be good !).

Rise of the Rebellion: A Rogue One Edit (Released)
Time

I haven’t watched it entirely, but it felt the little cuts here and there were seamless and that they tighten the movie better (it’s far less boring). So indeed I think the movie is better in this shape (sadly most of my issues with this movie - the plot itself and the characters - can hardly be fixed with fanediting). Well done !
I would nevertheless also remove the opening scene to leave Jyn’s backstory only known by dialogues and flash-backs (why not even remolding the opening scene as a silent flash-back ?). I’m not very convinced by the text of the opening crawl. Too long and too pro-Empire (and a reference to the Clone Wars that ended a few years ago would be much welcome).

Reverting Boba’s voice to the new version wouldn’t be that hard to do if you want to “personalize” your own ESB:R (both interpretations are good but the original one is far more sinister).
Since Ady is no longer willing to do PT:R I guess we won’t see Temuera Morrison’s face when Boba is seducing the cute dancers.

A) Accents being genetically determined is silly.

Why ? A clone being raised by his model would end up being very close to him, therefore Boba is closer to Jango than any Clone Trooper would ever be. There is nothing wrong with Lucas changing the voice of Boba to match Jango’s, the only issue is that Boba doesn’t sound as deadly in the 2004/2011 versions as he does in the 1980/1997 versions. Had Morrison made a better interpretation of Boba, I would prefer it over the theatrical version. In my opinion he didn’t.

Just a quick question: since ROTJ:R is going to go further into changing the movie we know (i.e. to really fan-edit it - new sequence being shot, dialogues removed, tone altered, etc. - instead of “only” correcting continuity mistakes and enhancing/improving/remaking existing material) is the title “Return of the Jedi” going to stay as it is or is Ady thinking about using the more dark (hence more suitable) “Revenge of the Jedi” alternate title ('cause Anakin gets his revenge while returning as a Jedi) ? Both titles are good but “Revenge” is a little bit better in my opinion.

(in the same trend, could be cool to include for TESB:R an alternate crawl with an alternate title, such as “Shadows of the Empire”)

(as long as you don’t use “Rogue Two” for “A new Hope” 😃)

During the sail barge assault there also is a very weird continuity issue when Han falls from the (around 0:32:02 of Harmy’s V2.5):

Also, the rebel fleet (around 0:47:39 of Harmy’s V2.5) has some lazy effects for the ships in the back (the movement is kinda stif):

Now thinking more about it, I do say completely ax out boba fett from the movie.

Instead, there could be an extra character added that could be an imperial spy. Kind of like in The Force Awakens you had a resistance spy and an imperial spy …

Anyway, it shows a guy sneaking off the hallway, maybe after Luke kills the rancor. He could be in a cloak, or looks like some kind of bounty hunter or something. He Takes out a communicator and says “Inform Lord Vader Skywalker is here.”

If there needs to be more added about this concept: After holo escapes, the video screen can be used with an officer reporting to Vader that explains that troops found the Palace empty and rumors/reports that Jabba was killed and Skywalker escaped. Vader can be silent … or just choke the guy … whatever is needed.

It adds a good connection for the first part of the movie with the rest. It also goes with the scene with the emperor commenting about Vader’s search for Luke and telling him to just wait for Luke to come to him.

Even better: at each point of the movie where Luke leaves a place Ady should add an Imperial spy who reports to Vader that Luke is here and later to inform him that Luke has left. At Jabba’s palace (“ok then, Lord Vader, he’s gone, and Jabba is dead”), in Dagobah (“well, Lord Vader, he’s gone and Yoda is dead”), in the Rebel Fleet (“Lord Vader, bad news, he’s gone, and a space mexican guy is co-piloting the Falcon now”), on Endor (“he’s… oh! okay, he’s just surrendered himself. My job here is done”), on the Death Star (“Vader is gone, the Emperor is dead, and Luke is leaving again. Damned !”). The same character can also be added to TFA:R.

ROTJ had some of the best character development in OT. While Han’s character development in ESB was great, I think Luke’s and Vader’s character developments in ROTJ were even a level above that.

I disagree. The Luke/Vader arc was great, but it was the only significant arc in the film. The other characters were just going through the motions, shells of their former selfs. TESB had great arcs for all the main characters. Every character was in a very different place personally at the end of the second installment from where they started off. This puts TESB miles ahead of ROTJ in the character development department.

Different place in terms of character? Not entirely true. For example, Luke does not actually change much in ESB. He is still this enthusiastic and reckless guy as he was at the beginning. He leaves Yoda’s training pretty much the same person (recklessly nonetheless). Leia again does not change much besides finally revealing her feelings to Han. The only one with a significant change is Han’s character. It is unfortunate that Lucas made Leia proclaim her love to Han already in ESB. I think iff he would leave that for ROTJ, those two character could be used way better in ROTJ.

In ROTJ Luke becomes completely different person compared to ANH and ESB. Same goes for Vader. While Vader was likeable and badass in ANH and ESB, he was pretty one dimensional. In ROTJ his character get a lot of depth and becomes very interesting. Even Leia and Han actually get development in ROTJ and are considerably different compared to ANH and ESB. While it might be a development you do not like but it is still a considerable development.

Anyway, I did not say ROTJ is overall the best in terms of character development. I just said that Luke’s and Vader’s character development are individually better than anything seen in ANH or ESB.

Luke doesn’t change much? Seriously? You throw out a pretty part of the story. I think this guy…

You are unable to differentiate between current state of the character due to some external “disturbance” and actual change/development of character. That scene is just Luke still being shocked due to the reveal and due to trauma related to his damn limb being cut off. So what exactly are the actions and dialogue he makes after that scene that indicate any difference (within ESB of course)? In the one scene that is left after that one I do not see any change of character.

I disagree. For one a person who experiences trauma is never the same after such an external “disturbance”. This is the very nature of trauma, and Luke experienced trauma in more ways than just physical injury. He went to Cloud City, believing he might be able to save his friends from the clutches of the man who murdered his father, only to come up one hand short, and discovering that his noble hero father is the ultimate bad guy. A man is, what he believes in, and everything Luke believed, has turned out to be a lie. I would call that a life changing event. The Luke at the end of TESB definitely is no longer the naive young rebel he was at the start of the film. He is now a Jedi in training, who’s life has been turned upside down. The idea that he would just get a new hand, and go on as if nothing has happened (which is what you seem to suggest) is ludricous to me.

I do not necessary disagree with with your assumptions, but if we look at the dry facts, in the one scene that is left in ESB there is nothing that indicates any change in character. There are no actions or dialogue that would indicate so.

He decides to make a jump that could have killed him. For example.

Thanks but i’m not quite convinced:
STAR WARS: THE FORCE AWAKENS [2D] appears to be the official title then 😃
And hard to say about the OT since their original released dates aren’t given: http://www.bbfc.co.uk/releases/star-wars-episode-vi-return-jedi-1983

You searched for: star wars

5 matches in Movie Title and 4 matches in Alternate Movie Title

It’s written “alternate movie title” as well, yet you don’t find anything about the episode number for the OT, so the list is very incomplete, so not very trustworthy… and TFA is nowhere to be found on this site anyway…

That’s being said there is a number on the crawl of the theatrical cut of V-VI-I-II-III-VII so I still don’t get why you would use them for the PT and not for the OT (use for both or use for none).

I’ve fixed the titles (I’ll never understand why people use the numbers only for I-II-III whereas V-VI-VII have one since their original theatrical release…).

That’s being said, move 3 and 4 to 7 and 8 and I’m on board 😉

I know you hate this beak but it’s nothing as offensive as Jedi Rocks, Han’s dodging head or even “No.Noooooooo !”, so yes it was an acceptable change. I won’t mind it getting removed, but I would love the tentacles being animated a better way (the SE tentacles look awful on the other hand…).
