Dom's Useless Prequel Edits

First off, just finished replacing SFX in this scene and thought I’d upload it for you guys. Keep in mind it’s a first pass, so still a little rough in some parts.

I took the time to watch it, and I like it. You’ve kept most of the Grievous exchange with Anakin and thanks to a very well done restructured montage you’ve made Anakin’s joke more funny and in line with his TCW counterpart. The reused cue also is a great choice (even if it’s hard to not remember the images I’m used to associate with !). I’ll definitely give your Dom’ PT a watch 😉

Great project that could interest me. As much as I love Hal’s PT I agree that here and there I would have personally made slightly different choices (but very slightly, such as the droid factory sequence in EpII or “this is where the fun begins” in EpIII, things that don’t fondamentaly change anything). I always welcome a fresh take on the PT since I’m very bad at editing (but I’ll try again some other day… at least to try something about EpVII… I will try !). I also guess you’re indeed the first one to use customed/regraded video sources for your 3 edits. A “film” look more aligned with the OT (and the ST/spin-of) is a very good idea.
Good luck with your project Dom 😉

He cut to much too my taste but I love the way he managed to logically keep the “Sergio Leone” shots during Obi vs Grievous scene (losing the cool exterior shot), as well as a few other things he’s the only one - as far as I know - to have altered that certain way (though I still don’t know why so many faneditors have cut “This is where the fun begins” line 😃).

The v1 was also called “Lone Star edition” (which is a great tagline). I would love a real alternate title in order to keep official titles for official versions, and using UE books titles (or else) - as Hal did with his PT edits - to fanedits. TCW title Children of the Force would totally make sense with the movie thematics.

I totally agree about the narrative mess that is ROTJ first act (a fun mess but a mess nonetheless). There isn’t much to do about that, but I guess that removing 3PO’s line about Chewie never returning from there would at least diminish the charming silliness of the rescue plan.

This has already been done quite successfully in many edits (L8, Hal, Q2, etc.). It works great because Lucas indeed thought of this parallel during writing but somehow forgot about it during shooting and editing. It is then more aligned with “He was already a great pilot when I met him”.

edit: oh sorry I misread your post, you mean more parallels, like a pay-off. Yeah indeed a shot-to-shot parallel between the pod race and the dog fight could be very cool (but thinking about this there already is a mirror structure, when Anakin’s ship is down within the mother ship, and “this is podracing !” emphasizes that).

ROUND 4 - now 22 movies!!! The Ritty's Star Wars Saga (Released)

It’s amazing though how no matter what forum you go on people are ready to fight first, before anything else… No one is ever greeted with welcome - always hostility. Maybe something to think about… May the force be with you!

This is a big issue with this forum. Some people are always cynical/sarcastic about everything and are followed by a bunch of “clones” to mock/harass their favorite “targets” (somes fights around here really are tiresome and predictable as hell). Not a very welcoming place indeed, with a deep lack of maturity. I just go on the topics that interest me and read the posts of people that are most of the time worth answering to. Just don’t pay attention to the annoying ones.

Good luck with your edits, but you should really consider releasing a cut-list because I would ever watch an edit with so few information about it (for example I would have never watched Hal’s PT without his cut-lists that intrigued me in the first place).

Rogue One: The Battle of Scarif fan edit (Released)

I concur, but it’s feasible to smooth his change of voice (maybe the pitch of the theatrical version could also be altered to make Vader sound less old). I’ll give it a try (but only when the v2.0 of this edit is released in order 😃)

@ForceGhostRecon
The “Rebels” sources come from which episodes (and what time ?). I like the idea of Vader’s voice in Rebels, who sounds better than in R1.

I think the audio change for Vader should only be applied for the Erso section (and thinking about it, there might be a way of removing the reference to Galen without using other Vader audio sources). The pun isn’t great but is what it is (as a Prequel film, it doesn’t really destract with the “No!!!” of his previous appearance).

Original: “I expect you not to rest until you can assure the Emperor that Galen Erso has not compromised this weapon in any way.”

Edit version: “I expect you not to rest until you can assure the Emperor this weapon has not been compromised in any way.”

Don’t know if that would be possible though.

It’s excellent. This change + the deleted scene + “they have found us” + other little things are really going to give “Restructured” a natural feel, as if the movie has always been intended that way. I’m more than hyped. Guys, you’re good !

Just a remak: would it be possible to make 3PO say “we are doomed” instead of “they are doomed” ?

By the way Sir Ridley, have you been given second thoughts about some changes you want (or don’t want) to implement into your own edit ?

You may be right but I never noticed the beeping. I’ll check it out later when i’m home. Since a few of us thought this was a mistake, there might be a little fix to the mix to be made so the beeping is clearer ?

Ok I’ve checked and… yep, there is a signal given, so nothing to fix here!

Has anyone talked about Vader’s head going through the shuttle ceiling ?
