That’s weird indeed. Do you have a 5.1 system that you can test it on?
Yeah and it’s indeed weird 'cause all channels display something.
After a second check, it appears my sound system just “converted” 2.0 into 5.0, but it doesn’t sound anywhere close to the 5.1 of the bluray (if I put aside the compression factor, I just need to compare with Hal’s PT or Ady’s TESB which have 448 kbps sound tracks as well that really display 5.1).
Here’s the mockup, with significantly streamlined subtitles: https://vimeo.com/238169635

“I hear you’re looking for some labor.”
“Yes, but you need not fear the First Order here.”
“It’s neutral ground.”
Why not a clearer “The First Order would never come here” ?

EDIT: I had to watch Nazi propaganda film Triumph of the Will this summer
One of many movies that influenced Lucas when making both trilogies. This woman knew how to make movies.
It looks very good. The score is superb. I believe in TLJ. It seems to be some sort of a TFA patch : most of TFA key scenes have their mirror fixing version.
Is it possible to add Boba Fett in every of these shots ?

Should’ve been 2:35:1/2.4:1 i.e. OG OOT & The Clone Wars [and the PT]
Yep, the same format used for the trilogies and TCW would have been perfect.
I like it, although the audio transitions need to be a little bit smoother to make it work completely.
That being said:
The shot where Rey sees the attack force is worse than superfluous, now that we see the Finalizer. It also makes no tactical sense for Rey to go back to the castle since she has no hope of outrunning fighters that are already overhead, and indeed we see the results of her tactical error directly afterward.
I don’t agree: the shot is needed for various reasons:
So, to sum up: leave this shot where it belongs 😉 !
Now, are we sure we leave “Those beasts!” untouched 😃
I think the rescue of Han needs to play into the larger story, perhaps the Rebels need his knowledge of old smuggler hyperspace lanes for the impending attack on the Death Star.
He’s one of the heros of the 2 previous movies, that’s enough reason to spend half an hour rescuing him I would think.

Yeah and it’s indeed weird 'cause all channels display something. Unrelated questiion: you’ve chosen 448 kbps for the audio export, why not 640 kbps which could provide a deeper quality ?
edit: by the way, do you have an external chapter txt. file ? I cannot use iso format so I convert m2ts format into mkv hence I lose the chapters of the bluray version.
The opening scene (young Jyn) is 6 years after ROTS, the rest of the movie is 19 years after ROTS.
You got me there.
This is what I’m talking about 😃 the opening scene ! (and the flash back scene on Coruscant - with slightly younger Krennic and Erso - is probably set just after the end of the Clone Wars). DS construction begins a few months after the end of te Clone Wars (according to the strange ending of ROTS); I guess Krennic is in charge of the project with Erso, who believes the Empire is for greater good after the separatist wars. He discovers the evil nature of the Empire, defects, and is found by Krennic 6 years after the foundation of the Galactic Empire. I would love a special TCW episode/arc with Krennic-Erso-Tarkin that would take place in parallel of the events of ROTS. But I digress here 😄
About the audio of your edit I don’t understand if it is supposed to be 5.1 or 2.0 : the audio file I retrieved from the bluray version is 5.1 but when I open it with audacity 4 channels are empty.
Found something: according to wiki (yeah, I know…), the opening scene takes place 6 years after the foundation of the Empire/end of the Clone Wars/the Jedi purge (http://starwars.wikia.com/wiki/Rogue_One:_A_Star_Wars_Story).
I think your edit is very fine for the purpose you intended it to be (and the little trims over the cargo pilot character that remove his Jar Jar behavior are definitely most welcome !), but I would suggest (if you are thinking about a v2 for your edit some other day) a slight rewrite of the crawl. Here ismy suggestion using yours with small alterations:
Founded at the end of the Clone Wars, the GALACTIC EMPIRE has spread its evil reign across the Galaxy. Hope and freedom are fading into darkness.
To resist it, the last remnants of the REPUBLIC have formed an ALLIANCE. Little do they know that the Emperor is building a new weapon that would secure his absolute power.
Director Krennic has just located the whereabouts of defected scientist Galen Erso, whose knowledge is crucial for the completion of this super-weapon and the fate of the Galaxy…
(english is not my mother tongue so I take it’s no De Palma quality 😃)
edit: by the way, is there a version of your edit with a 5.1 sound file ? (the bluray version is 2.0)
The clone wars have been over for nearly two decades, so I didn’t want to reference them as they have no connection to this story.
Yeah but the opening scene takes place just a few years after the end of the Clone Wars (I’m a little bit unsure of the new SW chronology about that).
Aren’t you in love with R1 as well ? (there goes your SW trilogy)
Hum… why not… but holograms are kinda ugly in the OT, it would be inconsistent with the saga to get such a high tech hologram of this size. Even the PT doesn’t have that. And wouldn’t it somehow rehash Snoke’s reveal in TFA ?
That being said, more badass imperial ships auch as the one you mention during the battle of Endor would be great.

So what about the opening scene ? A dream scene in your version ?
You don’t partially solve a problem with a movie (which is not really a problem since the rehash thing is part of some kind of trap) by damaging another one. And I don’t even see how implying that DS2 is a rebuilt DS1 would even change anything for ROTJ except making the first real Rebel victory a fake victory after all. Luke got a medal for that ! (“oh by the way Luke, DS wasn’t really destroyed and is being rebuilt… soooo… I’d like to get the medal back, and don’t tell me you can’t because you gave it to Chewie”).
This is a very small issue compared to other rules.
I honestly don’t care if this is spoiled for me. Not sure why, but I don’t.
I don’t care either. The ST joins TCW in the realm of interesting but essentially inconsequential possible worlds which, to me, aren’t part of the “real” SW Universe.
I hope the next two sequels come out all right, but I have no real emotional investment in The Adventures of Rey Random to speak of, so I remain an apathetic sumbitch.
Don’t let the door hit you on the way out
I love this one:
Don’t attack other members personally. When debating, argue the point, not the person. Respectful criticisms of debate style (logical fallacies) are acceptable.
Adywan doesn’t like the prequels, but does like the new movies. So yes?
Could be fun to see a very old Naboo fighter taking part of the space battle though.
I really hope some day we can have complete score editions for the entire saga. I don’t think R1 is a great SW score, but as a Giacchino fan I love what he has achieved in a few weeks. I only dislike the partial re-use of SW themes (it sounds weird).
People suggesting ideas from the new movies is on topic.
People rejecting those ideas because Disney/LFL came up with them is not.
Is this also a possibility ?
Hum… no 😉 but a good kid-oriented sort-of reboot of the OT nonetheless.
