The Worst Scene/Sequence in Any Star Wars Film
Time

The factory scene is quite terrible for many reasons, but the droid stuff is the worst part within. Without it, it’s just a dumb action scene that serves as a transition from “our heroes walk in the bad guys lair” to “oh, now they are in big trouble !”. Not pointless, just… not very good.

As for Yoda’s fighting in RotS, he doesn’t jump like Sonic anymore, so the scene is better (and besides it has a symbolic value which is almost none existant in AotC). The most terrible sequence for me in RotS is the scene where Anakin makes his choice, especially the lightning part with the melting face. I like the movie as a whole, but this sequence was so embarrassing… (thanks to fanedited versions for having that corrected in a way I’m more at peace with now).

The C3PO scenes during the factory sequence in AotC win. I would add Rey learning the jedi mind trick in the blink of an eye in TFA as a profond offense to what the Force was in the previous movies (ie not just a magical power to make the plot keep going, but a mystic power the characters were trying to understand and master). Yoda fighting like Sonic in AotC should get a mention.

There’s a Theory that expands this. (Equilibrium takes place a very long time ago in a galaxy far, far away)

“Equilibrium is set in the distant past of the Star Wars universe. The Clerics (quasi-religious order of warriors who believe in suppressing emotion in order to ensure peace) are an early, evil version of the Jedi Order. The Sith began as a rebellion against the Clerics: compared with the emotionally suppressed society of Equilibrium, the Sith creed (“Peace is a lie, there is only passion. Through passion, I gain strength. Through strength, I gain power. Through power, I gain victory. Through victory, my chains are broken. The Force shall free me”) actually seems quite reasonable.” - TV tropes

Hum… why not, only issue is that Equilibirum makes explicit references to Earth art and past history, which is inconsistent with the very first frame of every SW movie. But it’s interesting. You should watch THX 1138, original cut or even the SE cut (with cgi that kinda tie Lucas first movie with Kamino… not a joke !).

If we use non official SW movies, then my ranking would be:

  1. ANH
  2. TESB
  3. Dark Crystal (set in a very, very, very, very distant past, dealing with the consequences of the original kyber crystal)
  4. ROTJ
  5. ROTS
  6. TPM
  7. TLJ
  8. AOTC
  9. TFA
  10. R1

I would say the opposite, even if he takes questionable decisions sometimes, especially the syrian affairs.

Are you actually saying that Donald Trump is the most intelligent leader of any first world country in the last 70 years?

Not “the”, but obviously “one of the most intelligent leaders”. Those who don’t see that are either stupid or trolls.

Looks like a “strike bluff” to calm down the neo-conservatism branch still powerfull in US and UE/UK. Still a moronic move to strike the only one trying to get rid of djihadism based on so called assumptions, but it’s not as worse as I was expecting it to be. Macron is a moron, May is a moron, Trump still has to talk with morons in the Republican/Democratic Parties and give them what they want. Sad!

Football / Soccer thread - general footy, futebol, futbol, fotbal, Fußball, voetbal or calcio
Time

Oh good there is a football thread ! This week’s european cup games has been totally mad. The Reds disposing of City, Roma turning the tide against Barça, Juve being so close to eliminating Real, Marseille at last in a semi-finals 14 years after, Salzburg scoring 3 times in 5 minutes to secute a remontada of their own, etc. What a fantastic week!

For the semi finales, I’m for OM v Salzburg (but I wouldn’t mind RBS winning the game only if it means winning the trophy) and Bayern needs to settle the score against the very hard to defeat Real-Referee (😉) team.

Reds v the she-wolf ? Die Kloppschaft seems better, so I’m expecting a Bayern v Boruss… hum… Liverpool for the final 😃

That’s very cool! I have had two ideas on Dooku within the films. I always felt it would be interesting to have him be on the Jedi Council (preferably replace him with Yaddle), even if he doesn’t say anything.

Excellent idea ! Someone was working on an edit that implements Dooku in TPM, observing Qui-Gon funerals from a distant spot and looking angry about the situation. If you add him during the previous Jedi Council scenes (with the possibility to get a close up on him and a montage to make Qui-Gon and him nodding at each other, somehow) it would just be perfect. Had the PT got a “master plan”, Lucas would have thought about it himself 😉

Something that’s always irked me is how this shot is static:

We’re about to be introduced to our lead characters and the camera isn’t doing anything? Not anymore!

I really like that, TPM is often too static, it would be a worthy addition to create more dynamic shots (a 4K edition of the movies would allow it without even losing much quality). It’s funny that Lucas tried to incorporate this kind of camera movement on the 2011 edition of RotJ (when the droids get to Jabba’s palace front door).

The Last Jedi: Legendary (Released)

Not sure I’m shooting in anyone’s foot (not mine) but I started my post with

Another weird idea in TLJ that comes as a issue from the lack of “master plan”

I believe I’m saying the opposite for the Poe example who is some kind of hero in TFA and then a moron in TLJ, but nothing is gradual between TFA and TLJ (inner TLJ logic there is something gradual about Poe from start to end, but as a sequel it feels a little bit off from TFA to TLJ).

edit: but I like him more in TLJ, he’s just a super Wedge in TFA, even if the admiral subplot is weak, Poe as a character is better constructed in TLJ.

Another weird idea in TLJ that comes as a issue from the lack of “master plan” while doing as is there was one: Poe is a hero in TFA destroying the Death S… heu… StarKiller Base and stuff, but now he’s left behind every single decision, making the mutiny subplot something quite ridiculous (good job admiral: you’re making a “great” plan without telling anything to the guy who’s a proactive soldier with a strong influence on your remaining troops !). So, “great line”… the Holdo thing is among the very bad parts of the movie. But plotwise there isn’t much to be done through fanediting on that matter (you can’t cut it because all actions are connected, à la TPM last act), only possible is removing the meta joke about “may the Force be with you”… the movie can still be improved on other stuff.
