various little changes

I remember the following:

 • missile sequence put back
 • Anakin/Grievous confrontation reinstalled in an altered version to make the joke work
 • C3PO deleted sequence line “It is an acquired taste” reinstalled
 • Lucas caméo put back
 • Padmé’s ruminations scene goes without video cut (Palpatine voice-over removed)
 • Anakin v Obi-Wan finishes without any dialogue being said (Anakin jumps almost right away after Obi-Wan does)
 • plus everything else mentionned by Hal (new crawl, lossless dts track, Boleyn girls scene enhanced with a necklace caméo)

Pretty sure that’s all. It’s like v4.2, but better. I think it’s the best version available at every level (editing choices, editing/sound/video quality). So chyron8472, you can take it. Besides, this version comes with refreshed french subtitles and new spanish ones thanks to mierdonardo (if you have spanish friends, they can be quite handy… the subtitles, the friends I wouldn’t know).

Please recolor Holdo’s ridiculous hair. This is Star Wars, not Hunger Games.

Yes and everybody in star wars looks normal and like a natural person you’d see who didn’t do anything to alter their own appearance!

People in Star Wars generally look normal for their contextual environment. Holdo is on a Resistance capital ship fleeing the First Order. She’s not on Canto Bight. And no other human in Star Wars canon bothers to dye their hair wild colors. Why she would dye her hair purple as well as pile her hair into that crazy hairspray-intensive hairdo, while in the circumstance she faces makes no sense.

Recoloring her hair to a normal shade would make her more believable in such a serious situation.

Yeah but it sadly wouldn’t change Laura Dern performance, who is often terrible in TLJ (the sad/angry eyes she makes… gosh…). About her, is removing the weird meta joke with Leia (“may the Fo… oh, say it !”) on the table ?

The milking scene is still in; I loved that right away and wouldn’t want to remove it. This film has a lot of latent sexuality, in keeping with Star Wars. That’s also why I will be re-adding Rey asking Kylo to put something on when he is shirtless; it helps set up their “touching hands” scene.

Aw, damn, I really hated both of those bits…

ChainsawAsh, to convince Hal9000 is the power only one has achieved, but if we work together, I know we can discover the secret.

Your not alone on removing the solo Hux/Snoke scene Mala.

You’ve always been my favorite Darth aroud here, and you know it 😄

How kind of you. Here is the removal of the Hux/Snoke scene if you or Hal are interested, (https://vimeo.com/266610914)

Interesting and very well done, but wouldn’t it be better for continuity to keep the beginning part of the scene, “Snoke is making contact” and then cut to the Resistance fleet ?
(your take on it is anyway 1000% better than the ridiculous theatrical version)

The “put a cowl” line is also the opposite of a latent sexuality since it clearly denies it. I thought it was a very clever removal.

What better way to include latent sexuality than by ‘clearly’ denying it? 😉

I found that Rey looking elsewhere was enough clue about that, the line is just talkative obviousness. Not a dealbreaker for me anyway if you keep it. Less Canto Bright, no caretakers and less Hux jokes are the 3 things I’m looking for to consider watching a fanedited version, and all are already in your first cut intentions so it’s cool for me. The rest is bonus as long as it doesn’t look/sound fanedited.

I think this edit will be a fairly lightweight one.

Good idea. I estimate that a reduced lengthtime of 15 minutes should be quite enough.

Oh, too bad ! Two things I definitely don’t agree with 😕 The “put a cowl” line is also the opposite of a latent sexuality since it clearly denies it. I thought it was a very clever removal.

What do you all think about potentially reinstating two things?

The leaf/reed scene - Luke is sardonic, and it fits in with his character, makes the point the scene is going for that Rey doesn’t know the first thing about the Force, and is a genuinely funny moment. With the surrounding caretaker humor gone, maybe this one is worth keeping.

“…not about fighting what we hate, saving what we love.” - This line sucks, but perhaps it’s worth it to cap off the Finn and Rose plot’s point. It harkens back to the opening act, and shows her (dumb) growth throughout the movie. I do not like the line. But… eh?

Leaf : I’m OK with keeping it as well. If you remove the milking scene, then you would need to keep the “good” humor, and the leaf joke is a good one (I also like “ok that’s pretty much nowhere” that you kept). It’s like your PT edits: when you remove the truly bad, the not so bad becomes stronger and can stay into the cut.

Saving what we love : I agree it’s not a great line (Rian paying tribute to Lucas is cute though), but the removal is a little bit jarring. If it can be smoothed, I would be ok with removing it.

About the holo-Snoke/Hux scene, does anyone agree here it should be removed or am I (again 😃)alone on this one ?

The opening sequence :

 • The Poe & Hux “prank call” : ok, slightly better than the theatrical, but I would suggest to remove more, the entire second part of the holding joke which retains too much fof the theatrical prank joke (“I’m holding for Hux” “This is Hux, you and your friends are doom”. It’s repetitive to keep that).

Other suggestion for the opening scene :

 • remove the entire Hux/Snoke scene which serves no purpose at all. It’s more effective to see Snoke in his throne room for his introduction into the story than seeing this ugly big cgi holo-head. The fact he’s a strong force user won’t be witnessed until it’s relevant, not as a joke to humiliate Hux. And since Hux is in the throne when Ren arrives later, what was the point of the holo-head scene anyway ? It’s fat material that can be remmoved.

From Finn’s awakening to his meeting with Rose, suggestions :

 • Finn falling from his bed is ridiculous, would be great to remove it if possible.

 • Remove the meeting with Poe which also has no purpose (“where is Rey ?” as an introduction to Rey being quite a lazy montage trick). Next scene we see Finn, he’s talking on the bridge in full rebel uniform, so the “funny” scene has no point and no use for continuity reasons.

 • Luke throwing away the saber is still very painful to see.

 • as well as the blue milk scene…

 • Rose “ouah !” to Finn’s “May the force be with you” is so ridiculous, hope it could be removed ! (her extatic “You’re Finn!” is also problematic but I sadly don’t think anything could be done about that)

From Maz to light speed suicide :

 • I sure hope something could be done to trim the Maz scene. There is no soundtrack for this scene, so I guess it could be possible to adjust the dialogues and then to play with pure video editing to make Maz speak as a voice-over most of the scene.

 • the caretakers removal : oh ! Good job on that guys 😉

 • Canto arrival/leaving the jail: seamless job. I’ll rewatch the theatrical cut of the scene to see what has been removed, but just watching your take on it I don’t think more is needed (well, maybe Canto being a war profiters planet speech by Rose could be reinstalled, but with the later DJ speech it might not be that useful).

 • “Removed the detail from Kylo Ren that Rey’s parents are buried in the Jakku desert, as this seems at odds with the vision we saw in The Force Awakens.” well, I am in favor to keep that line.

Until the end of the movie :

 • I’m OK with all the changes made.

 • Good call to keep the remaining porg humor, but I believe that every Hux repeating orders moments should been removed.

 • The removal of Rose’s line (“saving the ones we love”) is noticeable. I think the line should be put back.

 • Hux being force pushed is quite ridiculous.

Star Wars: Resistance (animated series) - a general discussion thread
Time

So it’s not gonna be the story of Old Ahsoka looking for Ezra along with Sabrine (which was the only interesting thing raised by the very weak seasons 3&4 of Rebels) ? Oh… Too bad, I thought the post-RotJ era was more interesting to explore than the direct pre-TFA era. Because who’s resisting who in the new tvseries ? The rebooted Rebellion against the rebooted Empire, right ? I would have loved to explore the post-Empire resistance against the New Republic, to be on the “bad” side for once… I’ll watch it anyway, hoping it will be good (and better than Rebels).

If you speak/understand french, Djoumi’s latest episode (BITS) deals with canon (a few things about SW and the “2014 great reboot” are raised):

Djoumi is quite well known in France as a myth specialist in movies. He also appeared in the doc “The people vs GL” to talk about The Phantom Edit.
