Clone Wars Movie Series [Episodes I to V released; Episode IX: The Fallen Apprentice now Complete!]
Time

I must admit I’m not as convinced as I was for the first 4 edit-movies. The middle part doesn’t work that well, too many dialogues still contain the time factor that time has been passing by, but the idea of making everything happening in a row is very good though, I just think more should have been cut to accomodate it. The same goes with spider-Maul, maybe trimming more to directly make the encounter with Savage happen in the main lair (which means getting rid of the fight and most of the Lord of the rings 3 rip-off) would have been better. And I kinda miss the fact that the story goes too far away from Ventress and that we don’t get to see more of her bounty hunter life. It seems kinda dry without that substory, especially since it’s quite important in the season 5 finale. I believe cutting more of the repetitive stuff would have allowed the running time to contain more of the Ventress bounty hunter material, which should get the focus on. Maul, Savage, even Dooku aren’t very interesting. Ventress and the nightsisters are.

Sorry for the mixed review Smudger 😕

The ‘Custom Special Edition’ That Almost Wasn’t, But Then Was (Released)
Time

Your custom edition will be very close to the OOT, so it might be quite possible for anyone to adapt a dubbing track to it. If you begin to work on your edit, try to keep a logbook of the changes (with the timestamps), with that information making any alternate track could be quite easy. For your PT edits it would be too much work (and no dubbing exists for the deleted scenes anyway), but for the OT (and even the ST), it’s possible.

ANH is the episode that suffers the most of many bad SE changes (cgi rocks, Mos Eisley entrance, Greedo shooting first, Jabba,…). I like the fact you still want to retain the good SE elements (I personally like the cgi dewbacks - even the ones in front of the cantina, but I hate the one that goes in front of the camera, of course 😄). The SE Biggs scene is good. Would be a shame to remove it to correct a slight continuity issue with R2. What about reinstalling the line about Anakin ? (is the line inconsistant with the PT ? The actor was 37 in 1977, so “37 - 22 = 15”, he was just a boy when he met Anakin during the Clone Wars, or maybe sooner during Anakin’s training between Ep I and II. Is there a video file that could be used for that purpose ?)

Ok ! What else has been changed to Ep IV aside from the audio track and the repetitive shot removed ? The video file seems 2 minutes longer than the previous version (I need to resync my french subtitle file, so just to know where to look to alter it easily).

As for Episode V, I haven’t got time to watch it yet, but it consists of 6 main episodes + stuff from other episodes ?

(Nightsisters, Monster, Witches of the Mist, Massacre, Bounty, Brothers, Revenge, and Revival, right ?)

Is there a quality difference between the 1080p version and the bluray version by the way ? Usually I take the bluray version for the extras and a better video-audio quality, but bigger doesn’t always mean better. Just to know.

That’s being said, I would love a link to get Ep I and “fixed” Ep IV bluray 😃

  • Apocalypse Now - The ReRedux, a simple edit that only takes the sneces of the French out of the extended cut

😦

Joke aside,I agree, the french scenes are weird and long and so… pointless. I just like the line (not sure of the exact words though) “world war II we said we won but he lost; here we won’t lose !” which is, as a matter of fact, very true and still something most french people don’t always agree about.

Rise of the Rebellion: A Rogue One Edit (Released)

I think you only need to unzip the iso version with an “unzip” soft (try the free version of WinZip). You’ll then retrieve the m2ts file (there are several, just open the biggest one and check if if contains as it should the movie file) that you can mux as mkv with mkvtoolnix (the size will decrease, which is normal since m2ts use redundancy space, which is needed when you read the file burnt on a disc but which gets removed - because useless - when contained into mkv files).

This is not that hard, it might be the very first thing I’ve learnt when I joined this forum 😉

Let us know if you need more help.

Mala/HAL: I’d be willing to do DTS encodes of these alternate audio tracks like I did for the primaries if you’re interested. I’ll need each of the 6 channels as a separate mono WAV or AIFF file in order to do so, though (never had any success without a few glaringly unacceptable flaws when starting with a 5.1 track).

Can’t promise how quick the turnaround will be (it took me something like a week to finally find the time to sit down and make the DTS for TFA:R), but I am certainly willing to do it.

Oh that’s would be cool ! I made aiff archive exports of the combine 5.1 files, so I can easily separate them. I’ll send you that. I’ll first make one final final (final !) complete check of all the little changes to be 100% sure it’s as good as it can sound. Thanks again ! 😉

The Last Jedi- Full Movie Re-Edit

This thread seems to get bumped all the time… so again as a sidebump, I might as well link the newest update on the “Luke throwing the lightsaber” scene with new music:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jwlR-v1QWW0

It works better, the previous version was just non sense. Making the angry walking away just a normal walking away is the best idea (if you wish to accomodate with other changes made to Luke though, so I’m not sure it would work in the context of TLJ:Legendary), as well as removing the weird back and forth of Rey from the shore to the center of the island. I even feel the voice-over is not necessary (or just put a voice-over from TFA).

(so if you want to use it in TLJ:L, the angry walking needs to be reinstalled and the added voice-over needs to stay out)

Too bad Ivan decided to go away, his edit seems to be on a better track now (especially since the corrections made to this particular moment have all been discussed here… anyway, that’s is choice).

(and +1 with the music choice, a far better idea than the twin theme and it even makes sense here)

Ok, just a little something, an idea in case it would be possible to implement it in a v2 (if there is at some point a v2, of course), in order to smoother the only issue I have with this edit, ie the close up on the ring at the end of the movie. When I’ve watched the edit with people who’ve only seen the movie once a few month ago in theater and forgot quite a bit about it, there was a single question: not “who’s this boy?”, no, but “what’s this ring?”. So, I’ve found a solution. Good or bad, tell me, here it is:

  • just before the fathier chase, Rose shows this ring to the kid via a close up on it (around 1:06:25 of the theatrical cut);

  • even long before this scene (around 0:36:00 of the edit), Holdo’s “state of the Resistance” speech evoques their symbol.

What about inserting the shot on Rose’s ring when Holdo mentions the symbol ? If you look at the Canto Bight ring shot, you only see the hands and the ring, nothing else. The close up on Poe at 0:36:40 should be replaced or shortened with the implementation of the close up on Rose’s ring.

Just an idea that would fix the only moment of the edit where people may say “hey, there is something missing for me to fully understand the ending !”.

(oh, and something else: is there a dts export of the audio track of TFA:R ? There was a mov uncompressed file but if a dts version of it had been made I would gladly mux it to the mkv file of the edit 😃)

So, quick comparaison between TLJ:L and the bluray version: indeed the red throne room is already a little bit noisy (the red background especially), which is a little bit emphasizes in the TLJ:L version (it was already the case with TFA:R with Snoke’s very dark scenes). As for the crushed black, my bad I guess, since I’ve checked on my tv and there is nothing wrong with them (which means at some point I’ll just need to go back to my parents home to make a complete set up of their tv config, the unbalanced quality I’ve seen might be quite related to that). And since I was the only one to see these issues, the (bad) tv config is the best assumption. Thanks for your reply !
