To clarify, I was contacted at the MagnoliaFan78 email address, told that they got the email address from the edit, and that MagnoliaFan was invited to attend.
It was clear how they knew me and that it was MagnoliaFan they were inviting, not me personally under my real name.
Who it was inside that saw the edit and extended the invite is open to debate, but it had nothing to do with my own connections since I (under my real name) was not the person they invited.
Also, I never brought up my edits to anyone while I was there until others brought it up to me.
Honestly, if I wasn't asked on the subject first, I would have found it disrespectful bringing the edits up at a screening of their sequel.

The way that I think of the monarchy issue...
England has a queen. She's a figurehead, but that's it. The nation is still run by elected officials.

Amidala = Queent Elizabeth (but Ami is more hands on)
Sio Bibble = Tony Blair

It's not exactly the same, but you can read a slight parallel into it.
If you removed the "elected queen" thing, that should be enough without making drastic changes to explain things that don't need to be explained.

Touche'...

In all seriousness, say what you will about the acting in the prequels, the few fan films that I've seen still don't hold a candle to them in the acting department (except Troops). Lost in Translation they ain't, but a lot of the fan films I've seen have come off like bad high school plays.

I do find the dubbing idea intriguing, if you think you've got anyone who can pull off characters (and I take a certain sick amusement in the idea of billing Biz' in the credits of edits that he has bashes ).
There's not a lot of characters to redo. Nute, Rune, Lott, Jar Jar, Tarpals, Nass, the pod announcer, & San Hill. I do think EP II would be a far easier undertaking as a starting point than EP I.
I would probably still keep the original reversed audio as a secondary track on the final disc, if this were to work out, for historical purposes.

That is something... hahaha
I knew you weren't all bad, afterall.

I don't have such equipment personally, but I know several people who I'm sure do.

My big thing would be finding voice actors who can really sell it. It crossed my mind to re-record the reversed dialogue phonetically in the beginning. The reason I never did it is that I have this deep seeded dread of it sounding like something from a bad fanfilm.

MF, a couple of questions: 1) Are you planning on a similar "Special Edition" of BotF? 2) The Dooku as a Sith option is a nice feature, but will his lightsaber remain yellow?

1. Yep... It's just a hell of a lot more work to reconstruct Balance, so I'm doing it second.

2. The Sith Dooku will have a red saber. Basically, you can select between the theatrical ending, Clone War ending, and possibly a third alternate ending.

The big problem I've found is not so much in the language.
I could easily have someone transcribe the phonetic words of the reversed spanish and when spoken back it would sound like a new language.
The problem is making it sound professional and not like some guys sat at their computer and recorded themselves.

Though I actually spend a lot less time on these than people think. It's not like I spend hours on end slaving away at these things. It's like 10 minutes here, an hour there, in my free time when I'm not working on something else or an idea pops into my head.
That's why the original Balance of the Force took over 2 years to finish. It actually took another year or so before it got leaked around enough that it was bootlegged at comic shows and ebay, at which point I let Rikter distribute it online.

Oh, btw Biz', you'll be pleased to know that you'll be able to watch CW with Dooku as a Sith if you're so inclined on the new disc. It's not that way in the movie proper, but its a selectable option in the special features.

Just figured I would drop a little info on the new version of Episode II: The Clone War.

The disc image, when released to Rik' will be about 8 gigs in size, as it is being done on DVD+R DL.
There will be a slightly reworked version of the original Clone War, an extended version (ala Lord of the Rings) including many deleted scenes, and a special feature to pick and choose certain elements (deleted scenes, original crawl, original ending, theatrical alien audio, etc) for inclusion while leaving out others.

A few of the changes in the normal film:

The crawl is slightly different again.

I swapped out Corde's dying words to, "My lady, so sorry..." from "My lady... I failed you senator". No real reason, just sort of on a whim.

Bail Organa's stressful times line went back in. Even though it still isn't necessary, that two seconds doesn't really kill the flow of the film.

Anakin's line "If you'll excuse me..." has been replaced with an alternate recording of the line.

There is now an airey, electronic song in the night club scene.

Syfo Dyas is out. His plot thread was left unresolved in the trilogy, so thusly I felt compelled to lose him. With the way it is cut now, those familiar with the original prequels will know instantly who ordered them when the Jedi's name is mentioned, while Obi-Wan does not. For first time viewers, on the other hand, it is clearly revealed who ordered the clones by the end of the film.

Anakin's dream is back in, though his audio has been removed. We hear the dream go on, while he tosses and turns. Liam Neeson, Jake Lloyd, and Pernillia August all have dialogue in it.

Shmi's death scene has been recut. I was never happy with the way it was cut before.

I'm still playing around with rescoring the arena battle.

Threepio now says, "Die Jedi! Wha~ What did I say?!" The "dogs" part has been cut.

Yoda's line, "Begun, the Clone War has..." has been changed to "Begun, this Clone War has..."

There's more little tweaks here and there, but I'm typing this off the top of my head....

Right now, the aliens all still speak backwards Spanish, French, etc... though mixed much better into the sound channels. For all the comments from the peanut gallery complaining about it, no one has yet to come up with anything that sounds anywhere near as good.

Also, there's an optional english-to-chinese-to-english subtitle track, ala "Episode III - Backstroke of the West".

I'm waiting on RotS until I have the deleted scenes. I've found that sometimes they can really end up reshaping the whole idea.

Of the OT, Empire is done except for three shots.
Jedi has some preliminary stuff done, but some of it has to wait until RotS hits dvd. I'm also still in dire need of some original edition shots in dvd quality.
I haven't really tackled much of the original yet.

The DVD+RDL of Clone War is nearing completion. The DL Balance will likely be the next thing I tackle.

I relaly liked how your put so much into improvign the back story of why the trade federation attacked and so on, also the extra stuff on curocant was great. just one problem with the whole thing, you shouldnt have taken out the mediclorians idea, cause that is key in ep3. i know people say well it messes with the idea of the force being so mystical, i personally dont think it does, we all know that there are some people who just cant use the force, Han for example, something i think most people miss is that just cause mediclorians are there does not mean they are the force, they dont create the force they mearly interact with it, and it was this interaction that gives jedi's the ability to use the force. see what i am saying. anyway overall it was fantastic, i loved jar jar he moved from being most hated to on my top ten list after that movie. also the dubbing was a splended idea, i am interested in seeing what you did with AOTC cause i know that with better editing that movie could have been as good if not better then ANH, and ROTS.

Thanks, Shimraa. Glad you enjoyed it.
Although the midichlorians are out, I kept the basic theme the same, just simplified. Plagueis could manipulate the force to create life, stop people from dying, etc.
Consider what you see on EP II a work in progress. Neither Balance or Clone War was initially intended for release, they merely got pirated by someone who had access to a copy, so I allowed Rikter to distribute them freely. My Episode II was much less complete in my eyes than Episode I.
I'm soon going to release a DVD+R DL disc of it that contains a slightly updated version of the film, an extended version, and a few other viewing customization options.
I'm just waiting to get back a few completed shots that I subbed out to other people, so that I can finish it up.

Yeah, both George and Rick got a kick out of it.
Remember, a good chunk of the original Star Wars was born through George's re-editing of old war films to use as an animatic. He was doing re-edits before it was trendy.
As far as I know, they've seen "Balance of the Force" and "The Phantom Edit".
It's been mentioned in an interview or two with Rick and once in a statement by a LFL rep.
I think they liked it because it made such a drastically different film out of the same source material, coming off much less like an edit than a totally different film.
Also it introduces a lot of subplots and story elements that George dropped in early script stages, which kind of gives an interesting window into what could have been.

It's definitely not the original PhantomEdit. You should check myspleen.com. My guess is that you might want the Magnoliafan 1.2 Phantom Re-edit, which is the Phantom Edit re-done with DVD source.

Actually, the "Phantom Re-Edit 1.2" was the name for the uber rare New York version, which is totally different than the "Phantom Edit".
The "Re-Edit" is the one that I did the cleaned up dvd of, since it is so hard to find anything other than a 5th gen+ vhs of it.

I took care of that years ago in "Balance of the Force".
That entire scene is cut.
