MagnoliaFan Edits: Ep I "Balance Of The Force", and Ep II "The Clone War" (Released)
Time
Thanks, THX. I'll check it out.
I already, just now, dropped the "Put Captain Cargo in the Solo hold" interview piece into the classic commentary.

As I near completion on the final disc, I did streamlineit a little bit in order to fit it onto a dvdr-dl... It's amazing that 8 gigs just isn't enough space... lol

As it goes now, there are six audio tracks over the film:
~Vintage Audio Track (after the pre SE version)
~Vintage Audio Track With Restored Music Score
~2004 Special Edition Audio Track (includes a digitally altered Morrison as Boba Fett, and alternate dialogue here and there.
~Vintage Audio Commentary (from the Def Collection Laserdiscs + some new additions)
~2004 Audio Commentary
~Isolated Score

There are also 2 Deleted/Alternate scenes and a couple easter eggs.

MagnoliaFan Edits: Ep I "Balance Of The Force", and Ep II "The Clone War" (Released)
Time
That version of Clone War is actually pretty obselete now. I began working on what was intended to be a cleaned up DL dvd release of the original edit and suddenly found myself going in a re-editing my re-edit. Since I completed CW before Balance, my skills weren't exactly at their peak when I made it the first time. There were a lot of bad dialogue moments that I couldn't think of ways to tighten up at the time, which came pretty easily now. The new CW will be out in the relatively near future.

But I have another DVDR+DL piece of childhood raping fun that will be out much sooner:

THE EMPIRE STRIKES BACK - MAGNOLIAFAN SPECIAL EDITION
The film itself is the 2004 dvd version with a subtle overhaul.
There are two versions of the score to choose from (more info below).
Two lines were trimmed a tad to fit with the whole concept of viewing 1-6 in order and preserving what was voted as the second greatest moment in the history of cinema. The omissions are not really all that noticable.
The Wampa scene has been recut to match the original theatrical version stylistically but with the visual effects (well, 1 shot, anyway) of the Special Edition, and all of the sound effects have been resynched, as most of the scene's sound effects were all screwed up.
Han gets "the shelter built".
Obi-Wan's ghost now has an alternate line, telling Luke of Yoda, "A Jedi Master that instructed me".
The "first transport is away" voice from the theatrical version has been restored.
Artoo "doesn't taste very good".
Two versions of the Fett man to choose from. (more info below)
Vader's audience with the Emperor has been re-cut to match the flow of the original, and the Emperor's hologram has been darkened to better match the look of the original scene. Also, though completely by accident, a new plot twist was introduced to the OT. The reason why the Emperor has no problem letting Vader and Luke potentially kill each other makes a little more sense.
The "Who are you!?" stormtrooper who blasts Threepio's voice has been restored from the original edition.
The amazing disappearing window in Cloud City has been removed.
The sabers are all fixed.
Vader no longer asks to "Alert his star destroyer". The original "bring my shuttle" line has been restored. The last few frames of the shot are cut so that he is no longer walking out to the landing platform. All of the SE "Vader travelling to the Star Destroyer" scenes are cut except one shot of the shuttle in flight.
There are a few other little things here and there, but that is all of the noticable stuff.

Special Features thus far Include:
-Watch the film with the vintage Boba Fett voice or a digitally tweaked version of Morrison's 2004 voice, altered to closer match the original in speech patterns and performance
-Watch the film with either Boba Fett voice and your choice of the original theatrical score, or with all of the deleted music cues restored into the film
- Vintage Laserdisc Audio Commentary Track
- 2004 Audio Commentary Track
- Isolated Score
- 2 Deleted / Alternate Scenes
- A Couple Goofy Easter Eggs

The one thing I was thinking about working more on is that the LD commentary is pretty weak. There are LONG stretches of silence between comments. Anyone around here have any good sound bites from the cast and/or crew to add into the dead spaces to fill it out? Hammil, Ford, Fisher, and Billy Dee would be especially great to mix into it.

That's pretty much the only way to really have it work, along with making subtle alterations to the OT.
If you cut into Episode 3 by itself, and leave the OT completely untouched, the surprise gets ruined anyway a few minutes into ANH and again twice in ESB.
I guess in the end it depends on if you feel comfortable going in and making changes to the OT (ala George) to tie the whole series together, or if you really obsess that the only version must be the originals.
The way I see it, I really wouldn't mind changes being made if the originals were also available.
He could replace Chewbacca with Jar Jar, have Alderaan shoot first at the Death Star, have Vader shoot first at Han, make Yoda Luke's mother, put a chef hat on Admiral Akbar, do THIS to the scene with the Emperor in ESB, and redub Vader with Arnold Schwartzenegger & I'd have no problem whatsoever with it, if I knew I could just pop in disc 2 and watch any Pre-1997 version instead.
We've made the originals available as best we can. There's many talented people here on the job of restoring the OT and I toss them assistance if they think to ask. I guess that's why I don't really have a problem with going back and screwing with the originals a little.

Actually, I think the most amusing part would be interviewing the people who bash it.

People who say that I have too much time on my hands because I spent a couple hours, years ago, recutting a film.
Yet they don't understand the irony that they, themselves, have wasted years going around to messageboards bitching about the edit and saying that no one cares about it.

Seriously, the haters are more devoted than the fans ever dreamt of being. That's where the real entertainment value of such a doc would come in.

One thing that I think would be fun for Balance 2.0: Special Edition Turbo Hyper Fighting would be a documentary like "The Beginning" that covers a brief making and unmaking of the epic, TPM, from the legendary hype (ie: in 99, the return of Christ was named the #2 most awaited event of the 20th century, second only to the release of Star Wars Episode I), to the eventual backlash, the sharp divide between the fans, the emergence of Balance and how it redeemed faith in SW to those who had lost the faith and infuriated those who felt there was never any redeeming needed.
It's not something I would film myself, but if people gathered the footage all together, I could probably assemble an interesting hour or two out of it.

Episode 3: Fan Editing Ideas Discussion
Time
As for what the contingency plans, see 2-5 above are. Any of them can be done pretty easily.
I was bored and dropped Qui-Gon into ESB and Jedi, just an experiment to see what it would be like (not really for the OT edits or anything, just boredom and to see if it could be done). Putting him back in some small way into Ep 3 is easy enough.

And so far, I just had the Dooku stuff downloaded from the net, though I know they have Xbox ripping software out there. I haven't worried about it too much yet. Nov 2nd may be a different story.

Another thing I noticed is that if you watch 1-3 as a stand alone trilogy, it works better to have no Vader and kill Anakin. The birth of Vader just feels tacked on... It's a loose end... Like a big TO BE CONTINUED slapped on the credits. After doing all the horrible things Anakin did, he deserves to die... even if only to stay dead for a film and a half.
Plus, my new "scene that explains it all" in Jedi, has brought chills to the few who have had the fortune to see it in rough form.

I'll go ahead and second the moving it to the Preservation/Edit board... that just makes sense. I'm kind of surprised its lasted so long over here.

Secondly, people have asked for special features in the past, so I pose this question...
What special features would you want on a DL (and possibly 2 disc set) of Episode II? and for Episode I?

The Official Greencapt 'Batman & Robin: De-Assified' Edit thread (Released)
Time
My friend and I had come up with our own version of B&R a while back, but boy did we take it in a different direction than you did...

Our proposed titles were:
"Batman Whatever"
"The Homo-erotic Adventures of Batman & Robin" or
"Batman & Robin: Or How I Learned to Stop Worrying and Love the Bomb"

You guys can probably suspect the type of changes that we were making to it.
It wasn't necessarily any shorter, or any better, just more entertaining.

True... though your stance seems to have softened a bit as of late.
I mean, hell, this makes two, maybe even three civilized interactions between us?
Wonders never cease...

That above statement does paint a frightening mental picture, though...

Yeah, there is a cool mystique to not really knowing who extended the invite.

What I do find so funny is the way that fans (George's and/or mine) feel the need to have this sharp divide that LFL feels either:

1) "That bastard butchered my movie! He needs to die a painful death!" or
2) "That edit is the most amazing thing that I've ever seen in the history of mankind! He should get the nobel prize!"

No one seems to really consider a reaction grounded in reality.
ie: "It was interesting... I liked how you made Watto sing.", etc.
