Star Wars - The Edits and DVDr releases thread
Time
I certainly noticed the lynch mob mentality...
I've gotten the reaction a few times here and there over Jar Jar's cursing and Dooku's saber, and I'm sure I'll get it here and there over III and the OT...
It's funny, finding myself thinking, "This is the film I wanted to make and if people don't like it tough...", meanwhile getting irritated at George for the same attitude.
It is funny how up in arms people get over little experiments...
Imagine if I had released my test footage of Jar Jar being voiced by Donkey from Shrek, rough footage with Eagle 5 from Space Balls in TPM, or my test shot of the Force Ghosts with yet another actor portraying Anakin who looked like Shaw, was built like Vader, but appeared to be 40's ish.
Sometime's you just want to do stuff just to see if it could be done...

A couple of suggestions as a way to credit yourself without insiting another lynch mob (like the one I occasionally get over the yellow saber):

A logo before the film... Maybe similar to a THX intro.

Or bill yourself in the end credits, maybe after Lucas is credited a writer/director and Kurtz is as producer, insert a credit - Digital Restoration - MeBeJedi.

That way you're billed without people up in arms thinking that you're claiming you wrote & directed it...

The 2004 DVDs will be Limited Edition! No more to be produced after Dec 2004!
Time
It's just like the widescreen VHS of Phantom Menace...
It was a limited, one time only pressing.... (limited to like 2 million copies)
I wouldn't worry too much about finding one...
Then again, I already have mine...

Haha, I have a better source of the screen tests than LFL!!!
Just stumbled onto that watchng the documentary as I type...

STAR WARS: The Torrents thread
Time
A yellow saber in SW actually existed long before a green one ever did, so I see no problem with it...
I just think it was long overdue to be seen on screen.
If it weren't for skyline issues in Jedi, a green one probably wouldn't exist...

Anyone who had a Luke action figure as a kid in 77-79 should know what I'm talking about.
It's kind of an homage to that.
Besides, Maul always had a red blade.
Vader/Anakin had a blue saber and lost it and then got a new red one.
Dooku already had a saber and would have no real reason to throw it out, especially for something that would scream his affiliation, if he was trying to operate in secret.

STAR WARS: The Torrents thread
Time
I covered the swearing issue before...
Essentially, some of it went in since there was cursing in the OT and some of it went in as a joke in a rough cut, but got such huge laughs from the people I screened it to that when I cut it, that was their main complaint.
Besides, I figured the original Jar Jar was the most vulgar thing ever to happen to SW, so he might as well be the most vulgar character as well...
He's still well within 80's PG boundaries.

The torrent of CW will probably be delayed, as I asked Rikter not to put it up quite yet, as I am making a new version, fixing the crawl and making a few tweaks here and there....
He should have it soon, and you guys of course shortly thereafter.

Is nothing sacred? The Krayt dragon change (re the 2004 OT SE DVD release)

If that ticks you off, watch this frame by frame and watch the bottom right side of the frame.
I'm not sure if its a mouse pointer or a fly buzzing past the telecine, but either way, its an ugly flaw.

I guess the allocated data transfer has been exceeded at the moment, but it says that it should be restored within an hour.

They have totally lost it now! (OT 2004 DVD)
Time
This is why I shifted the timelines for my edits quite a bit.

Anakin's age
EP I - Anakin is 10
EP II - 10 Years later - Anakin is 20
EP III - 7 years later - Anakin is 27
EP IV - Twenty years later - Anakin is 47
EP V - Five years later - Anakin is 52
EP VI - A year or so later - Anakin is 53

I could buy, if Anakin had such a rough life that Shaw's Anakin was in his fifties, at least moreso than being 43...

MagnoliaFan Edition Episode III-VI Titles
Time
I personally am leaning toward "Dark Force Rising" as the title of Episode III.

I lean toward "The Hidden Fortress" because the rebel base seems to be the central element of EP IV. The Imperials seek out the rebels Hidden Fortress so obsessively that they even allow Luke Han and Leia to safely deliver the Death Star plans to the rebellion, just so that they may find the base.
They could have stopped them from ever escaping the DS and it all would have ended right there, but as Tarkin said, they took "an awful risk" all to find the Hidden Fortress and their consequences were disastrous.

The only one that may not get retitled is ESB and that is because of A) my love of the title, and infinitely moreso B) I haven't heard a single great alternate title for ESB, nor have I thought of one myself.

MagnoliaFan Edits: Ep I "Balance Of The Force", and Ep II "The Clone War" (Released)
Time
Bizzle, I think you missed a few things in the past here that is stemmign this whole misunderstanding...

The disclaimer at the beginning of Balance and CW, I have explained on here, is meant to separate these from George's saga. It's like SW infinities. My two edits are EU in the world of George's saga and his are EU to mine. It is entirely another point of view. That is why I keep arguing, "_______ hasn't happened yet and doesn't affect my film!" I never claimed to be trying to connect mine to George's OT as is.

There will be re-edits to all six films, though much less will be done to the plots of EP IV, V, and VI, just small nips and tucks will be made to preserve things like the "I am your father" thing, some new effects and selective use of certain effects from the SE and 2004 version, and some all new effects which are kind of what the SE should have done.

MagnoliaFan Edits: Ep I "Balance Of The Force", and Ep II "The Clone War" (Released)
Time
These edits ARE being made to be viewed in order as if you've never seen the others before...
Right down to the "I am your father" scene still being a surprise in ESB.
I've already shown my 1 and 2 edits to a few people who know nothing about the original trilogy. Such people do exist.

Secondly, Dooku is still a Jedi.
The order may not acknowledge him, but by that arguement, Luke was never and will never be a Jedi because the order is dead and gone before he confronts Vader.
Hell, Vader is still called a Jedi in Episode IV by both Obi-Wan and Tarkin.
Just because a Christian doesn't belong to a church, doesn't mean they cease to be a Christian.... and just because a Jedi Knight/Master ceases to be a Knight/Master, doesn't mean he's not still a Jedi.

Umm... "shitty and infantile"...
Don't know where you got that quote from.
Those words were never spoken by me.
What was that about putting words into people's mouths?

And its not criticism I'm touchy over.
People have criticised elements of the edits on here before, we make our cases and that is that.
Most of this has been like that Monty Python sketch:
"This isn't an arguement!"
"Yes it is"
"No it isn't! This is just contradiction!"
"No it isn't!"
"Yes it is!"
It just seems as if this whole thing is going nowhere. You keep saying that I ruined the film because of some little smile in one scene of a sequel that hasn't even happened yet. No debate is ever going to change that. It just repeats itself.
"Yes you did!"
"No I didn't!"

As far as fouling up Episode III, I had a friend who said lopping out midichlorians, a virgin birth, and changing the cause for the entire invasion of Naboo would screw up Episode II. Its didn't affect anything at all. Nor will this. I know what happens in George's III. Dooku is dead too quick to really change anything... and then, in his 5 minutes of screentime, they have to reveal him as a Sith yet again to the Jedi, or never make reference to him being a Sith again. Either way it will work out fine, probably without even having to trim anything.

As far as wasting time, the edits of Episode I and II were done because I had no knowledge of how to go about editing whatsoever and wanted to learn. Now I know... seems pretty worthwhile to me.
I turned them in for a project in an editing class I took and the instructor didn't even know how to do some of what I did.
I only made copies of these for a select few people, then those edits were stolen and were being bootlegged at conventions and sold online for like $25 - $50 each.
I passed them along to Rikter and a few others to make them available to people without shelling out money to bootleggers and was invited to this board by a few members to share a little technical insight.
My life is not these edits.
