Episode VII: The Force Awakens - Discussion * SPOILER THREAD *

Without actually seeing the video clip and faces of actors, I agree it sure does make it hard to determine its legitimacy.

Judging those few images though, to me it doesn't particularly look fake, however it does not look like something we'll see in the final film either. Curious why the clip would be removed too, as well as the uploading account. So, I'm still willing to believe it was genuine test footage.

As for the bearded guy, maybe it's just a Luke-alike for this test footage. Hard to say.

It is intriguing nonetheless.

Having Anakin's body vanish right after death undoes all of that and removes all ambiguity about whether Anakin redeemed himself at all. His ghost appearing should always be the first indicator that he's made it to "the other side". Otherwise we've already had our visual cue that he has and it diminishes the impact of the moment his ghost appears.

This.

"That's it! The Rebels are there."

I am really liking what I see in all these sneak pics - from the underground hangers to the "Harley-Davidson style" X-Wing to the Rebel extras - but I'm also feeling really bad for JJ and the team. It's gotta be annoying to them. It feels like ever since it's been known where they're currently filming, all of a sudden several others are making effort to fly over or on foot to capture ANY thing. I bet many Bothan spies have died already.

Overall I think I'm going to like this show. It's a pretty standard Disney style cartoon aimed at kids, but it's set in the OT and seems to do a pretty good job of capturing the feel of the OT, in a Disney cartoon fashion. Would I love something that was much stricter in its adherence to the look, feel, tone, "realism", and established physics of the OT? Absolutely! But that's clearly not what this ever intended to be. Bent for what it IS intended, it looks pretty fun. There's some things I'm not fond of (the madolorian girl and the slingshot in particular) but I can accept or look past those things if the show is good enough overall.

Yep, everything you said there is exactly how I feel too.

What do you think about this - For the conclusion, maybe right after the view on Lando when Ackbar announces that he'll lead the attack, we get one last glimpse of Han, Leia, and Chewie (preferably not reused footage) sitting there quietly (ideally Han would first be looking over at Lando then back up front). This moment of pause may be just enough before the next shot which is probably a view on Mothma, Madine, and Ackbar (again, preferably unused footage) with Ackbar saying the concluding words - since his mouth is not a "real person's mouth", he'd be the easier one to dub over. Ackbar actually does say later in the movie "May the force be with us", but if it's in your abilities, you might need to tweek it a bit so it sounds like he actually says it in the briefing room, not the command room. After that shot, show the droids, and I think you'll have it. I guess you'll also need to work with the background music to accommodate these changes.

I know I make it sound easy in writing, if only it were almost as easy to actually do it :)

I wish Gary Kurtz himself would comment directly on Ady's facebook page.

That would be pretty awesome if it happened. Also if Kurtz becomes so inspired by Ady's project that he would actually chat with Ady directly, sharing all kinds of history and ideas that both he and GL had back in the day... I think that'd be most interesting and fun for the both of them.

Excellent edit on the ROTJ briefing Possessed! That's pretty close to exactly how I'd like to see it in any edit too.

I don't like that we ever got a good resolution between Han and Lando. It was a big deal when Lando had to betray his friend, but the best we got was the cheesy "Well look at you, a general huh?" *sit-com laughter*... Therefore best to eliminate that and all the other goofiness (as you did), and let it be inferred that they already had their chat about the matter. Also glad to see the "Good luck! You're gonna need it." was removed. Not only was it interuptive, to me Han comes off as sounding like a complete dick right there.

Never minded the segment when Leia asks "I wonder who they found to pull that off?" then Nadine calls out Solo and asks about his strike team... that part still makes me chuckle at times, but I can certainly live without it since now there's a better flow to the entire scene without all of that. The tone and the seriousness of this briefing is definitely improved if only Mothma, Ackbar, and Nadine speak, as you have it.

Of course there should be a bit more fine-tuning here n there, with the hologram, music, etc, but another significant change I'd wish for is (if at all possible): Less views on the "A-team" and more on other groups of soldiers/pilots who are listening and we would (ideally) see again later.

What I loved about the ANH briefing/battle was, even if we had our main characters, the focus wasn't completely on them. We had some other interesting characters to relate to as well, which in effect also made the scale of the battle much larger.

Also, for some, I can understand if Mothma's delivery of "Many Bothans died to bring us this information" being cringe-worthy as it is, so I wouldn't mind if that part were removed, or as Ronster sugessted, scratch "Bothans". Most viewers have no clue what a Bothan is or looks like, so there's no sympathy towards them and it kind of comes off as awkwardly one-sided. But if just "Many died..." that actually makes it more relatable. Good idea Ronster.

Lastly, if possible, it would be great to have more of a formal closure, like someone saying "May the force be with you." - maybe a bit more than just that, but at the very least that much. Then of course finishing off with the droids as it is.

Again, excellent mock-up, keep it up! :)

This isn't a new suggestion, only something that I brought up a long time ago and again recently, but on both occasions I feel it got buried.

Ady, I was wondering if you also agreed with the inconsistency of the lighting inside the asteroid cave and hopefully had a chance to give it some thought and attention.

In an ideal situation he would come out, ask what's going on. Leia would asked to be held and he'd just do it.

Then comes the great pay off, I can't find the link but a video was made (not my idea either):

LEIA : It's not like that at all...he's my brother.

HAN (smiles) : Convenient.

That's great!

That would be one of my many dreams come true about ROTJ if we did not have a jealous Han in the Ewok village (or in any scene). The whole thing comes off as an 'eye-roller' and unnecessary whereas the focus should still be on what Luke just told Leia, nothing else.

To be more technical for how it could look, I think, right after Han asks the question "Hey, what's going on?", we should get one last glimpse at Leia's distraught face (maybe taken from the footage when she's about to say " I.. can't tell you) still struggling to find words from the bombshell she just heard, until finally we get the scene of her saying "Hold me" and it carries on as normal from there.

I 10000% agree there is no way Leia knew for sure which is why I am over the moon the stupid line (which implies she did) is going :-D

Pretty sure you can't claim to agree with someone and then use the reason why you DISAGREE with them to back that up. But I'm done beating my head against this particular brick wall. I'll agree to disagree, while disagreeing that we're agreeing....or something.

Pretty sure you both agreed that the scene is better without that line, so that's gotta count for something :)

Personally, I could've gone either way, with or without. If Ady can convincingly edit the conversation so Leia is (for the most part) speechless about it, I'm all for that.

Back to ESB:R?

Here's a comparison of the shot in question:

In the bottom "Revisited" half, notice how much light there still is along the walls. It has always been this way originally but, as evidenced by the previous shot, there should hardly be any light down here (only the minimal light the MF emits).

The top half of this split-screen was gradually shadowed darker so its interior matches the previous shot of the interior better. As it's traveling downward, wherever the MF is, that's where the light should be more prominent.

I'm hopeful Ady will take this into consideration, if he hasn't already.

That asteroid on the shot where Han says "I'm going in closer to one of the big ones" first of all. Looks nothing like the surface that they fly over in the next shot secondly if it was as big as the asteroid surface in the next shot it would get bigger a lot slower but also be much larger out the cockpit window.

That is what we are doing pointing out the short comings of the original visual effects. And trying to figure out a way of it to work better.

Yep.

If Ady hasn't already a long time ago, I agree that the original large asteroid FX, when initally seen from the MF cockpit, can be improved upon in some way.

Speaking of the large asteroid, I brought this up after the latest clip, but I think it got buried. Wanted to make sure it got noticed:

In the final shot as the MF is descending further down into the cave (just before the swipe), I've always thought that the interior walls needed to be darkened to match the previous shots when it first entered (continuity fix). It can still be lit up in the areas closest to the MF (its rear engine and forward lights emit light), but at this point when there would be no other sources of light, the areas further away from the MF as it's flying should gradually get darker.

This is how it's seen first descending into the cave:

Notice how dark it is in front of the MF. Very ominous too.

So I guess this is how the new Imperial helmet looks when actually created (non-concept art and non-CGI)...

...I am most definitely loving the new look of the Imperial helmet. It appears more "modern" and sleeker and yet it still pays homage to the "classic" style.

To be honest, though, I do still feel underwhelmed by the possible "snowtrooper" design. Hopefully that concept has already gone through a re-revision, for a face mask that coincides better with the "standard" helmet.

The concept arts of Han look good to me. Good eye and memory, Ryan, in noticing the similarities to Katarn's attire. Clearly they're branching out and borrowing ideas from other SW sources, which isn't a bad thing.

I'm actually surprised (and glad, of course) the Falcon is still around 30 years after the OT considering what Han and Lando put it through before and during the OT. ;-)

Lol, me too. As Silverwook and Ryan said, Han is always making modifications and fixes on his baby.

Yeah I never understood why anyone would be so pessimistic about the "big three". Of course everyone will look great and do well for their character.

It would be cool, in the movie, to catch a glimpse of the cockpit's entry way from that rear perspective, just for simply seeing something different in the MF. Maybe that paneling was still a WIP when that pic was taken, but I'm not bothered by it if that is how it will be.

Wow... I got goosebumps just by how awesome Hamill looks in that pose. His beard, his hair, his physique... could not imagine him looking any better than that - very happy for him and his success!

Now where's some very recent pics of Carrie? Is she next and ready to prove everyone wrong that she can still look good wearing the golden bikini? ;)

Incredible work and attention to detail on the latest update on the Dagobah trees, Ady, very well done!

I think, what a lot of skeptical people don't consider or have forgotten is, there is a lot more happening in the background for this project. I don't just mean the obvious either (what is being shown/told to us and of course the real-life matters). Other aspects within the Revisited saga are being accomplished simultaneously, whether it be directly or indirectly. A known example, these same Dagobah trees will be utilized in ROTJ:R too. We also know several other models that were made, such as the MF and X-Wing (it's possible there's more that weren't revealed), will undoubtedly be used for other films besides ESB:R. It's about planning ahead and being proactive. While you wait on one thing, if you can, you work on another - Ady excels at this. For all we know, he may have already started picking away at the other films long ago, including the PT. He is getting help from some other talented people after all (the inner circle), not to mention he has people with costumes on standby (3PO and Darth Vader, and that's just what we know of so far - he loves to keep surprises), so whenever they can be available to him for help, he will try to get things done in a time that works best.

So for anyone who has grown impatient or is doubtful about the time of release, please see the bigger picture.

I believe in this project and I believe in all that Ady is doing. My upmost respect goes to him for all he's doing, so the least I can do is be supportive, optimistic, and patient. It will be done when it's done and I will always be there til the end.. the end of the Revisited saga.
