It was on the front page of Reddit so I doubt it.
Avengers: Infinity War
Good.
Think about the logistics of this. The battle of Endor just happened three years ago. But somehow in that time a coffee magnate has traveled out to Endor, found their local variety of bean, negotiated with the local Ewoks to harvest them for him, ramped up production to a galactic scale and successfully marketed it? That’s ridiculously improbable and silly. The Star Wars galaxy is made up of billions of planets, referencing the same handful over and over shrinks the galaxy.
Same as it ever was, then.
Sadly. I really thought they were going to take the canon reset as an opportunity to dump the chaff and focus on quality. But the early Marvel revival and the Aftermath series proved otherwise.
Um, no, they’re both pretty good.
Truly exceptional work:
The TIE wibbles and wobbles in the air, careening drunkenly across the Myrran rooftops-it zigzags herkily-jerkily out of sight. - Excerpt from Aftermath
The ki-a-ki bushes tremble in the warm wind, dark thorny scrubs whose gentle tremors call to mind an animal trying very hard not to be seen. The thirstgrass conspires with the breeze: whispers and shushes and hissed hushes. - Excerpt from Aftermath: Life Debt
“Pretty good” not exceptionally perfect. Although I don’t see what’s so bad about that Life Debt excerpt.

Any Jar Jar scene in The Phantom Menace. Yeah it’s cliche to say, but they are still so painful to watch. I didn’t even like them as a little kid, which is who they were obviously made for.
AOTC and ROTS also didn’t look as bad then as they do now since they’ve aged poorly. Scenes like the Coruscant opening weren’t ridiculed for how bad they looked at the time.
I thought it looked bad in the theaters and I was in the fifth grade. Nothing else in the prequels looked bad to me at the time (although I didnt like them nearly as much as the OT) but even my simple fifth grade mind wondered whY return of the jedi made in 1983 had A better looking space battle than this new movie.
Man I never thought that as a kid. I think the special effects in the prequels work well in motion (mostly) and they didn’t distract me then, and they still don’t.
I never knew that talent and intelligence both disappear at age 23.
Nobody likes you when your 23.
When your 23 what?
Shit man, I can’t believe I’ve done this. I always call people out for it. I will now hang my head in shame.

I decided to rewatch the first season, to refresh my memory of events before proceeding to the second. My opinion of the show, which wasn’t all that high to begin with, has fallen.
SPOILERS
This Ash isn’t the Ash from the movies; this is a flanderized caricature of Ash. The Ash from the films may have been rude ‘n’ crude — which makes sense in light of what he’s experienced — but he wasn’t a casual racist or a horndog or a numbskull like he’s portrayed here. This Ash simply isn’t likable; his only saving grace is his one-liners.
Kelly. I don’t like her. I don’t like her personality, I don’t like her voice, and I don’t like her makeup.
All the interesting characters on this show die within episodes of their introduction. Lionel and El Brujo? Both had special knowledge/talents which could’ve been of recurrent use to the main characters further down the line. But nope, they were killed and became Deadites. Elegos? He could’ve been a recurring villain, if not a main villain in his own right. He acts the boogeyman for all of three episodes, then he’s blown to pieces. Quoth the Thulsa Doom, “Such a waste.”
Amanda. What a pointless, go-nowhere character. Don’t even get me started on her “blink-and-you’ll-miss-it” romance with Ash.
Ruby. She was interesting initially. Her introduction, as a demon hunter pursuing Ash under the mistaken belief that he’s allied with the Deadites? So much potential there. Then she was revealed as a Dark One who just wants to control the forces of darkness 'cause she’s EVIIIIL. Bleech.
The tone. It’s trying to be violent/gory as well as funny, but it’s no Evil Dead II. Evil Dead II knew how to balance comedy and horror. Ash vs. Evil Dead is a discordant clusterfuck of tastelessness.
So no one ever went to the cabin in the years between Evil Dead II and this series? Ash’s parents never asked him what became of Cheryl? None of the family/friends/co-workers/employers of Scotty/Shelly/Linda ever made inquiries about their whereabouts? No random visitors/hikers ever explored the cabin grounds and found the remains of any of the people who died there? It just raises too many questions.
My individual episode ratings:
- “El Jefe” – 6/10
- “Bait” – 7/10
- “Books from Beyond” – 7/10
- “Brujo” – 7/10
- “The Host” – 6/10
- “The Killer of Killers” – 6/10
- “Fire in the Hole” – 5/10
- “Ashes to Ashes” – 7/10
- “Bound in Flesh” – 5/10
- “The Dark One” – 4/10
My rating for the season (and the show):
★★★★★☆☆☆☆☆
I’m still going to check out the second season. If I like it more than the first, then my rating will improve. If not …
I preferred the second season (didn’t finish it though) but I think the only episode I really loved was the first one. I agree with all your points, especially the characters being quickly killed off. Takes the tension away.
I think I just got MFM mixed up with LuckyGungan or something like that.
I’m way less interesting.
paja is an annoying guy.
FTFY
I always thought he was 30. We should make a thread about how old we think people are.
I just spilled 200°C molten plastic on my hand.
This really fucking hurts.
Jesus Christ what did you do afterwards?
I love the Raimi Spider-Man films, especially the second one. The third gets a tonne of hate but I still dig it. The Amazing films are really bad, but I liked Homecoming a lot.
I guess, but I honestly feel that anyone who doesn’t think that is either trolling or kidding themselves.
Um, nah I’ve thought my opinion on the prequels through many times, I don’t think I’m kidding myself.
Yeah but how would you know?
it isn’t hard to realize you’re trying to fool yourself.
Yeah exactly, whenever I’m “kidding myself” about a movie and loving it for no real reason I come to terms with what I thought about the movie in a day or so. My opinion on the prequels has stuck for a long time now.

Cool…
Oh…
Seen it. Not my proudest wank.
Rob Zombie - Hellbilly Deluxe
Two Thumbs up!
I do love that record. Big spook-show fun.
I’ll always wonder why he makes such fun music but such joyless films. His Halloween 2 may have been the most joyless film I’ve ever seen. I don’t hate it or anything, in fact there are actually things in it that I quite like, but my God is it joyless.
Never watched the sequel, but god was the first one dumb. The first thing I thought when I saw the original was “man, this is alright, but it would be way better if Michael’s backstory was half the film, and everyone was a redneck.”
Not half way through yet, and it is a thoroughly enjoyable read. Lot’s of insight and fun stories within.
I wish Bruce would publish an updated edition or a second volume. His career’s really gone places since this was published.
I’ve been born since this was published.
I don’t care much for Jim Carrey in anything that isn’t The Truman Show.
Have you seen Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind?
EDIT: Ash beat me to it.
I watched Season 2 over this past week. Overall, I don’t quite like it as much as the first. The running gag of Olaf fooling everyone with a flimsy disguise has worn thin by now. I’m not that taken with the darker tone, either. Now perhaps it’s just the writers staying faithful to the source material — I haven’t read the books yet, so I don’t know — but it rankles, regardless.
Those nits picked, the acting and direction and dialogue remain amazing.
★★★★★★★★☆☆
I only watched season one, but I didn’t care for this series. Olaf feels like a fan trying to do an impression of Jim Carry and failing. Pretty much every aspect of the movie works better in my opinion.
Agreed, I enjoyed the movie but the series (what I saw of it) was really bad. The little kids were so annoying.
All this talk about parents is really giving me a good idea about what you all look like.
