Every person I have spoke to agrees that the T-800 holding up his thumb as he dies is perfect.

EVERY PERSON YOU’VE EVER SPOKEN TO? Holy shit. Do you include that in your “Get to know you” conversations? “Hi, I’m LuckyGungan. Tell me right now, in T2 Judgment Day, when Arnold gives a thumbs up as he kills himself, WASN’T THAT JUST FUCKING PERFECT?”

I mean, about that film.

In what way I should watch a Star Wars Marathon?

Whenever I watch the Star Wars movies, I usually include ROTS, mostly because it is not boring like TPM, and to a lesser extent AOTC, and also because of the nostalgia I have for it (apart from TFA, it is the only Star Wars film that I remember the hype for).

That seems so strange to me. Your generation does not remember the hype of the Phantom Menace, or its flop.

As a child I remember lumping TPM and the OT into the “old Star Wars” category, just because they were the ones released before I was born.

Ranking the Harry Potter films

I know, ANOTHER ONE?! But, seeing as that Fantastic Beasts is coming out later this year, I figured it was as good a time as any to rank these films.

  1. Prisoner of Azkaban ★★★★★
  2. Deathly Hallows Part 2 ★★★★☆
  3. Chamber of Secrets ★★★★☆
  4. Philosopher’s Stone ★★★★☆
  5. Goblet of Fire ★★★☆☆
  6. Half Blood Prince ★★★☆☆
  7. Order of the Phoenix ★★☆☆☆
  8. Deathly Hallows Part 1 ★★☆☆☆

Terminator Genisys (2015)- 7/10- I still maintain that, while this movie is far from perfect, it is the only remotely worthy followup to the first two. Underneath the lackluster direction is a clear understanding, from a writing point of view, of the universe that James Cameron set up.

There are so many things wrong with that sentence I won’t even bother.

ROTJ is the best Star Wars film... discuss!
Time

Overall, I think Return of the Jedi is good, not great. Above the prequels, below ANH, ESB and TFA. It really only has one standout scene, which is the Throne Room scene, which is one of the best scenes in the saga. A lot of other scenes are good, but none other than the aformentioned Throne Room scene live up to the scenes in the first two and seventh film. The speeder bike chase is fun, but the tention is very low and the lack of music hurts it. Everything in Jabba’s palace is good, but feels tacked on to the beginning to have an exciting opening. Han is Han Solo’d (definition: when a really interesting character from a previous film is made less fun and interesting to watch (see: xenomorphs from Aliens compared to Alien)), and Leia is sidelined. Luke is at his greatest, but most of the supporting cast isn’t as good as in Empire. I think the biggest problem in the film is the tone. It goes from dark and tense to happy and lighthearted in one scene, which takes away any emotion you may have. Overall, it is good, but I don’t put it in the same league as the first two (and the seventh).

A few suggestions:

Delete the scene in which Jar Jar Binks proposes that the senate grant the supreme chancellor emergency powers and revise the opening crawl to state that the senate has recently granted the supreme chancellor emergency powers to counter the separatists. Delete the character Jar Jar Binks entirely.

Restore Anakin mentioning that attachment is forbidden for a Jedi Knight, which emphasizes the motif of forbidden love and explains why they needed to keep the relationship secret.

Restore the emotional fireplace scene when Anakin confesses his feelings, which emphasizes the motif of forbidden love and explains why they needed to keep the relationship secret.

Restore the love confession scene and Anakin’s surprise reaction to Padmé, which emphasizes the motif of forbidden love and explains why they needed to keep the relationship secret.

Restore the scene when Anakin slaughters the sand people and the scene when he tells Padmé but remove the lines in which he describes slaughtering the women and children like animals. Fade to black as Anakin states, “I killed them. I killed them all.”

Restore Obi-Wan and Anakin’s antagonism after Padmé falls out of the transport, which emphasizes Anakin’s love for Padmé and his change in character.

Restore the Geonosian war room sequences which reveal the plans for the ultimate weapon.

Restore Yoda’s epic duel with Count Dooku but edit it slightly for length.

Restore Darth Sidious addressing Count Dooku as ‘Darth Tyrannus.’

Isn’t it funny that all the changes listed here would actually make the edit worse?

theredbaron's Episode I: The Phantom Menace Screenplay Rewrite.

The dialogue is worse than the original screenplays. For example, consider the following passage:

GRIEVOUS
Two of our spies on Dxun have been killed, your Highness. The Mandalorian presence on the moon is stronger than ever. They have enough firepower to make a landing on –

AMIDALA
Withdraw all surviving personnel.

GRIEVOUS
It will be done, your Highness. Your Highness…

AMIDALA
Yes, General?

GRIEVOUS
If I may make a suggestion…We have the technology at our disposal, I propose we build an army to defend Onderon…

AMIDALA
Cloning for military purposes would be a direct contravention of Republic law!

GRIEVOUS
But your Highness, the Mandalorians –

AMIDALA
I will not condone an action that will lead us to war!

GRIEVOUS
As you wish, your Highness…

This dialogue is poor. Your characters interrupt each other far too much. Although individuals interrupt each other frequently in real life, characters should rarely interrupt each other on screen so many times in swift succession.

Good dialogue is always wittier and more intelligently argued than in real life. Good dialogue is a highly selective imitation of real speech – without the unnecessary interruptions and pauses.

Wait, why the hell did you bump this? The poster will never get your feedback man, the date on this is 2005!
