X-Men (2000) - 6/10

Most characters are criminally underdeveloped, especially Cyclops, the action scenes are mostly lacking (apart from a very fun sequence involving Toad), and it tries to be overly gritty even though the premise is ludicrous. The CGI has dated considerably as well. But that being said, I love the relationship between Wolverine and Rogue, and between Charles and Erik. I liked most of the movie, so I guess that’s enough to recommend it.

This movie came out before you were even born?

You betcha!

You should never, ever ask questions like that. It makes you like an impatient little kid. It will come out when it comes out.

i just was asking for a window fall winter that’s all.

You see kids, this, is what happens when you don’t use punctuation!

The more I think about Civil War, the more I like it, to the point where I think I can say it’s my third favourite film in the MCU.

I think my ranking goes something like this now:

The Avengers (2012) - 7 (maybe eight?)/10

Iron Man (2008) - 7/10 (again maybe eight?)

Captain America: Civil War (2016) - 7/10

Captain America: The Winter Soldier (2014) - 7/10

Iron Man Three (2013) - 6-7/10

Guardians of the Galaxy (2014) - 6-7/10

Ant-Man (2015) - 6/10

Avengers: Age of Ultron (2015) - 6/10

Captain America: The First Avenger (2011) - 5/10

Thor: The Dark World (2013) - 5/10

Thor (2011) - 5/10

Iron Man 2 (2010) - 4/10

The Incredible Hulk (2008) - 3/10 (I can barely remember this so my rating might be off)

ROTS is also rated higher on the critics side of the spectrum and is rated higher than TFA on the user side of the spectrum. But I wonder what the score would be if all of the trolls reviews giving it ridiculously low scores without elaborating were removed.

I really don’t understand why Revenge of the Sith is praised so much, even Ebert gave it 3.5 out of 4. It’s practically the same quality as The Phantom Menace (though is heaps better than Attack of the Clones).

Drag Me to Hell (2009) - 8/10

I appreciated casting mostly unknowns (I only recognized Justin Long, from that awful Die Hard movie), as it helped the suspension of disbelief. Alison Lohman was very likable as the lead, and her character
was interesting. At times it was genuinely scary, and at times I found myself laughing, like when
Christine killed the kitten. It was well directed and well shot, with great music. I also loved the twist ending.

Evil Dead (2013) - 6/10

I didn’t hate it as much as I thought I would, but I certainly didn’t love it. In terms of production, it was first rate, with great effects, great direction, creepy music, and fun camerawork. In terms of story it was mediocre, and I didn’t care for some characters, and one I outright hated (the brother). I liked the female lead and the Kurt Cobain looking guy (who got absolutely brutalized), and I liked the changes to the original story.

Cast Away (2000) - 6/10

Mostly enjoyable. Tom Hanks was pretty good. I hated how the film skipped ahead four years, as I think by showing those four years Chuck Noland could have been better developed.

The film is already 2 1/2 hours long, I think showing all that time would’ve made it too long for the theaters to want to show it 😛.

I see that, but I still thought it felt rushed.

Ip Man (2008) - 7/10

In terms of technical stuff, like camerawork, fight choreography, music, special effects and direction, it was fantastic. Donnie Yen put in a great performance as the lead, and I liked most of the characters. I did feel as if it may have worked better as a full on biography of Ip Man, instead of an action film, as the text interludes felt very out of place. Also, having the main character be a super powerful badass made fearing for him in the fight scenes very hard. The film was also quite cliche. The story, while not groundbreaking, was adequate for the film, and overall I thought it was very good.

I seriously don’t get American schooling. As far as I can tell, they start a year of school in September of one year, then finish that year in June of the next year. Why not do what we do in Australia and have school start in February and finish in December, with two week holidays sprinkled in over the year, and a six week break in between school years?
