Alien: Covenant already looks to have all of Prometheus’ problems. Why are all these scientist/explorers going into the unknown without protective suits? The trailer shows that they get infected by something bad through their unprotected ears and then cuts to people saying “we have no idea what’s out there.” Stupid.

Ugh, man. I watched it for the first time a couple nights ago and it was just awful. It was interesting and decent in parts, but I have never seen a collection of dumber characters walk right into their own deaths willingly than I did when I watched Prometheus. What kind of scientist takes off a hazard suit just because you can breathe the air?! What kind of scientist goes tromping around touching and contaminating and affecting the environment? The one guy is like “whoa let’s not touch these dead guys, but I will try to touch this huge crazy worm!” Or “Oh hey I don’t wanna be friends, but later we’ll be okay with each other. Also where did your accent go the rest of the movie?”

Ugh. I could go on and on. Everyone was just so rock dumb. Except Idris near the end.

Alien: Covenant just looks like an updated version of the original Alien, with some Prometheus thrown in to ensure it doesn’t get too good.

Wow. I don’t like memes, and this takes a particularly strange one to a whole new level of pointlessness. No wonder the channel is named Gratuitous.

Yeah this is apparently a massive thing for Millennials and Plurals to do with their time now. I don’t get it.

There are also tonnes of other ones for that terrible show The Nutshack, and for that mediocre movie Bee Movie, where people replace words with other words or videos.

I got a Lego K-2SO. I don’t care if that’s too kiddy, I still enjoy building and playing (actually, mostly just admiring) Lego. I still adore the old Bionicle line of Lego toys, and this new K-2SO is built in a similar vein.

I finally caved and bought myself the Lego 2016 Advent Calendar, in order to get the fabled White Wookiee Mini-fig. (I was in the Lego store to get the Yellow Submarine set, and my resolve is weak.) It also came with awesome Stormtrooper, Snowtrooper, RotJ Luke and my favorite: the Power-droid!

Oh nice! I remember getting the regular Advent Calandar in 2010, but it shipped to my house about four months before December started, and since I wanted to use it properly, I had to hide it away so I wouldn’t think about it. Eventually I caved in and opened it at the side to look at what was in the box.

Ranking the Star Wars Soundtracks
Time

Continuing on with my ranking frenzy, I think it’s time to rank the Star Wars soundtracks. My opinion is very different from usual opinions, so I expect debate. Anyway my rankings:

  1. Revenge of the Sith - A+
  2. A New Hope - A+
  3. The Phantom Menace - A+
  4. The Empire Strikes Back - A
  5. Return of the Jedi - A
  6. Attack of the Clones - A-
  7. The Force Awakens - A-
  8. Rogue One - B

Yes, all the scores are absolutely terrific. Let the debates begin!

Updated my ranking to include score for Rogue One soundtrack.

Having Cornelius Evazan’s (who looked fucking awful) and Ponda Baba’s cameo in there hurt my soul, I don’t know who thought that was a good idea but I was very unpleased by their appearance and so was everyone in the theater both times.

Care to elaborate? I thought they both looked fine, and was super jazzed to see them, as were all my friends.

Fuck Disney. It’s becoming more apparent that we are going from one broken home to another. Episode VIII is going to suck. Hard. Attack of the Clones hard. The franchise is doing something I never thought possible: making Lucas seem like the good guy in comparison. Maybe that was his plan all along, to make him look better in hindsight. I can’t believe that man has emotionally abused us for 35 years and counting. There will never be another good Star Wars movie again. Instead of mutilating the OT every few years, Lucas should have written into his will that no one could make any more films, not even himself.

You know Hollywood is in a sad state when this is funnier than most mainstream comedies today.

The thing that makes this Emoji movie worse than all the examples brought up before is that, while those movies are all definitely cynical pieces of trash, at least they advertise something. Angry Birds is an ad for the game, Garbage Pail Kids is an ad for the cards, but what about Emoji movie? What does it advertise? Smartphones in general? Emojis aren’t owned by anyone, so who benefits? The studio didn’t even have to put forth the effort to get the rights for an IP, they’re just lazily throwing together a cynical heap of garbage simply because they can.

🆗, I think that’s enough B😂tching for 1⃣ night.

I think it’s sad that this movie will likely make megabucks, when so many great films are flopping nowadays.

God I can’t watch that. “Epidemic”? That would imply it’s a bad thing that so many movies are passable. It’d be worse if they weren’t.

I wasn’t exactly wild about Rouge One. No internet reviewer gave me that opinion.

The Studios have more creative control than in any point in Hollywood’s history. Abrams was chosen because he was the ideal studio director: one that could be molded by the producers to churn out middle-of-the-road products designed to rake in enough money opening weekend. I don’t like the films made by committees as opposed to auteurs. Say what you want about George Lucas and the prequels; at least they had some kind of ambition, some sort of risk-taking of CGI boundaries, willing to bring in political themes unseen in previous films. They’re not good by any means, of course, but an ambitious failure is always more interesting than a solid yet forgettable blockbuster. Which film would you watch again, The Room or Captain America: Civil War?

I find it surprising that people on this thread are suddenly defending TFA when they have been bashing it only a few hours ago as “crap is crap.”

So, Tommy Wiseau should write, direct, and star in a SW movie?

I’d watch it.

I don’t get the argument that the characters didn’t get enough background, such as not knowing how Baze and Chrrut met. Who cares how they met? You never find out the backstory of Jules and Vincent in Pulp Fiction, and those characters are still terrific. Hell, you never find out the backstory for Han and Chewy, and those characters are loved by all.
